It's not the programs and programmers fault, it's the people higher up that is making this decisions. Current CEO is just simply money hungry, what do you expect from someone that thinks you should be charged a dollar to reload your gun lol.
FOSS is great, I think just making sure you don't put all your eggs in one basket. You are also your own creative identity, the tool is a vehicle to help get you where you want to be. Sometimes you need a new one :)
you know who we need as ceo, one of the main guys who ran EA into the GROUND with massive over reach of microtransaction -unity i will never understand the concept of rigging out pennies while burning dollars
Don't mind the consoomers in the comments telling you any of this is good. Nobody with an ounce of brain likes or remotely approves with this change. And I'm saying this right now - if you agree with this change you do not deserve to be a game developer. Period. Because with that mindset your game will turn out the same, and only value it'll provide is taking little timmy's mother's credit card money.

Agreed! Please do not target the people working at Unity, its the board and CEO that need to make this right.
Unity never truly supported Linux, and I stopped using it in 2018 because of that. I guess I was pretty ahead of the times.
"You'll never make it!" There it is, that is what I'm pissed about!!
What I've personally taken from this situation is to not rely on any tool that isn't free and open source.

hopefully they make it right, and others find a path forward to make their game without Unity.
*EA Unity be like:*
But they don't have *all* the money they could have.
yeah their finances are not awesome, but I think they could have found a better way to make up that revenue.
@@HexBlit Absolutely. It's honestly a shame they've gone this route.
Since I have my own game engine I approve of Unity raising prices. I think it is great.
Lol. Raising prices like Netflix probably would have been fine. But making devs have to change course is never fun.
I get it, but calling it "raising prices" is very much inaccurate
@@KajtekBeary Okay 20 cents per install is lowering prices? Maybe a better statement is price gouging.
@@TravisBerthelot that’s definitely better!
