Hi guys, I think you are wrong: in the animation of the phase modulation the blue signal is the signal that carries information to be transmitted and the yellow one represents the carrier signal. The formular consequently shows f1 as the carrier frequency and f2 as the information signal frequqency. In coherent transmission f1 is as high as 200THz whereas f1 is up to around 100GHz these days.
