Jon, I love what I am seeing from Mark of late, although, Syracuse and Queens aren’t very tough on the interior, but to really take a leap forward you need Mark Dominating the Defensive Glass. He has to be more active hunting for rebounds and blocking out put back scores from offensive rebounds. The tape won’t be too harsh on him in the Syracuse game, but all year he is too focused on defense like he’s playing the 3 and has Lively and Kyle cleaning the glass. He has to be THE GUY cleaning the glass for us this year as he’s playing the 4 (with Kyle of course) rather than ball watching like a spectator as seen too often in film breakdown. If Mark can be dominant in all phases of the game your team has a much better chance at reaching a Final 4. Otherwise it’s honestly just fantasy. Your defense on Kenpom is 26th of this day. Baylor in 2021 was an outlier from the previous 22 tournament champions. They ranked 22nd in defense on Kenpom. The lowest defense to win a title. Your defense needs to be much tougher. Typically a top 11 defense is good enough to win a title. Mark can help in this respect if he can clean the glass better. But your guards need to toughen up too. Let’s get to work and sharpen some iron.
