This Knuckles is my favorite movie portrayal, and I felt more for Wade now. So, I wanna see more of the SCU (Sonic Cinematic Universe), and still waiting for Shadow and/or Amy Rose
I thought it was a pretty good show.I just don't understand why it's hated because Knuckles has lest screentime, dispite being his show. It's about both Knuckles AND Wade. People don't understand that the miniseries balanced the two characters. Knuckles help Wade becomes a warrior in his own way while Wade help Knuckles in saying that Earth is his home. Anyway, I enjoyed all 8 episodes of the show. The characters are well-done, the story is brilliant and the action are cool. I give it a 10/10.
I honestly really liked the show. Knuckles character is kept consistent with the second movie and the jokes are actually pretty good here. Personally the first three were the best, they just had more action sequences and good cgi( not saying the rest is awful but in my opinion they had the best. I like Wade and to hear his backstory was relatable but they made it funny to some degree. Episode 4 in my opinion is the worst. Wade gets mannapped by his old friend who is a bounty hunter. Good start obviously Knuckles is going to come get him and take down Jack and Knuckles gets his hat in a cool way. Right? But no Wade is literally unconscious for 29 minutes and Pachacamac reappears. So I thought if they were going to train Wade into becoming a warrior and Knuckles would join him in this ancestral plane but No we get to listen to a cheap budget musical which is all right. Then Wade punches out of his cage and cuts Jacks hair off and drives his motorbike back to Wendy’s house and Knuckles says “ He’s ready”. Knuckles in the episode for a minute or less! Then episode five is decent. Then episode six is fine but the ending was cool but rushed and knuckles got beat up like a redheads stepchild. Then post credits and I thought they were gonna show a sneak peek for Sonic Movie 3 to get us all hyped but Nooo! I’d rate it a 7/10 pretty good but if Jeff Fowler directed the whole thing I would guarantee it would’ve been a 9.9/10.
The most worrying thing about this show is that it did better than both sonic movies, which makes me concerned that they're going to do more stuff like this
Considering how critics ate it up too and how there are Sonic fans who are willing to defend it, yeah expect Paramount to do shit like this again because people aren’t willing to actually call them out when they do something wrong.
It was always going to be like this. If you want a "sonic movie" less hollywood than this pure distillation of hollywood, get Naughty Dog to do it and sell it on video game consoles for $80 like their other moveis posing as video games. Is it too late to ask Paramount feature Crash and Ratchet & Clank in Sonic movies, and make this series the Smash Bros of film? Western production on video game has had this irreverent attitude from the beginning, because games like Donkey Kong Country amd Crash bandicoot WERE jsut poorly understood fundamentals of gaming lampooning on Mario.
Honestly despite this series being THIS, I am not worried for sonic movie 3, because the director for the movies wasn't involved much with this show outside of episode 1.
The show highlights the biggest problem these movies have: the human OCs (except Agent Stone) are unfunny and annoying. I really hope they learn from their mistakes and don't give Rachel, Wade and the others too much screentime in Sonic 3. Shadow's story needs to be done right. Poor boy is in desperate need of some good writing.
True. Though I'd say Tom and Maddie are good. They're actually a very supportive couple and have a very happy and healthy marriage. Which showcases why Sonic looks up to them the most in Green Hills, even becoming his adoptive parents. And best of all, they act like normal people.
I think this is reductive; bear in mind grand sweeping assessments are what created the 2010s era in the first place. I think there is an issue in the way the Knuckles Show handled the Human OCs, but removing them entirely is not the solution. A lot of the heart and soul of Sonic 2 came off of the back of the human chemistries that were built up. I get what you mean though.
9:16 I think the best example of this is Better Call Saul. Better Call Saul's protagonist is the comedy relief in Breaking Bad and the writers manage to make him one of the most complex characters in not only the Breaking Bad franchise but in media. I'm not saying I expect this cinematic universe to reach the level of BCS but if you want to make the comedy relief character one of protagonists you have to do a better job than this show.
I really wish the series could have been about knuckles learning more about the human world. That could’ve been way more interesting than this whole plot of knuckles trying to help wade fix his daddy issues💀 Edit: Wanda can die in hell.

Everything you said about seeing Knuckles passing out in a desert and having a flashback showcasing his younger years and seeing Pachacamac being a hardass on him by making strength and combat as a main priority, only for his father encouraging him that fighting is only half the warrior. Just *wow.* And your pitch for Wade's backstory where we actually *see* him abandoned by Pistol Pete at TJ Maxx only for an officer to help him find his family, which shows why he wants to become an officer himself so he could help others, and his love for 80's music being his escapism. *PJ!* These ideas you presented for the main characters would have been *fantastic.* You should have been one of the writers! I'm even more sad this was never done here. PS. The Buyer was *Snively* the whole time underneath that big ol' beard.
I think Pachacamac should've been the villain because he was a villain in the games, and the Knuckles clan killed Longclaw, they wanted power. This could've been about Knuckles learning about his tribe not being what he thought they were, and the ghost of pachacamac wanted knuckles to spread the tribe's philosophy, to continue HIS legacy, and the reason why he could'nt hug Knuckles, but could bang into things could be because he's being punished for his sins in life, like Jacob Marley.
More weird to me how he complains about the very few human moments in Sonic 2, yet praises the Knuckles show despite Wade and his family being the focus over Knuckles himself?

The Fucking Disrespect they threw at knuckles's backstory through its portrayal ALONE during the musical episode... was the nail on the coffin for me. Literally the ONLY character to have a Sadder, more Traumatic and Fucked up backstory than Shadow gets treated like a terrible and cringeful attempt at humor 🙃, that whole section STARKLY resembled the meta era, by having ZERO Mind, commen sense Brain-Que's, And ANY SEMBLANCE OF SOCIAL AWARENESS, for when and where to turn the 'cheeseball jokes' T H E Fuck O F F ! And still managing to not only fail at knowing when to be comedic, or serious for that manner... But 95% of both their heartfelt moments AND their comedic moments fall completely flat on their OWN. Not helped by their Stupid, and just Purely Un-Earned nature of things... I just pray 🙏 this dunce was due to the writer's strike and that Knuckles's will get HIS DESERVED show in all it's glory AND NOT with a season 2 just because of what that would entail, but With a NEW SHOW ENTIRELY just simply called (while truly EMPHASIZING our man)... I liked the show for what it was. I’ll admit it’s not perfect like I feel like knuckles could have had a little more screen time and I don’t hate Wade I just feel like some scenes could have been shortened a little and I personally don’t mind the bowling matches cause I like bowling but I think the thing that stings me the most is the ending cause it feels rushed it should have the final battle with knuckles go on a bit more and have the post credits be knuckles and wade arrive back in Green hills with Sonic, Tails, and Maddie greeting them. My rating for this show is a 6.5 or 7 out of 10.
That is a pretty fair and reasoned take. I don't hate wade either, but it's more the characters and story surrounding his character that is the biggest issue. If they wanted to include Wade, they should have focused on his interactions with Knuckles and build them up as a unique duo. And, yeah, the ending is so anticlimactic. Even the post credits scene was nothing but wasted time.
i agree with all of this except i have a even more positive opinion. I love this show, i really liked it i gave it an 8/10. I loved wade and i like bowling but i still agree with the criticisms, i think knuckles needed more screen time, the ending was rushed a bit and wades sister sucks plus the villains were boring although they had their moments but other than that i really loved this show. i had fun with it i agree with your version of the post credits scene that would have been better
Episode 3 made my youngest son have a total breakdown over how awful Wade's sister was to him. That was too much for me. The rest of the episodes made sense from Wade's perspective. But it was Wade and Knuckles

I feel like they should've just made a Knuckles Movie. That way they wouldn't have to stretch their budget so thin to account for a TV show, and actually make something we'd want to see. Maybe if Jeff Fowler directed the whole thing, not only would it feel more consistent, but he clearly understands the series better than anyone else at Paramount
I legit was left dissapointed cause Knux is my favorite. And i wouldn't mind having show like this...existing. BUT its literally promoted itself as KNUCKLES series. Where he's actually main hero of its story, but all i saw is...Knuckles is basically just...a guest character. I don't hate Wade, i don't care about him...But FFS, its literally clickbait for fans like me. If you liked the show, thats good. I'm glad you did. As for me....i just gonna pretend i never watched it.
It broke my heart when I sat down expecting to see further progression between knuckles and the characters, and instead was treated to this. That first episode was an unfair tease, btw. While I don’t mind Wade as a character, I do feel that they made a crucial mistake of giving him too much screen time and ignoring all the other characters. They could’ve made it to where we learn about his backstory in snippets, while giving enough screen time to the other underdeveloped characters so that we can grow to understand them better and not feel so overwhelmed. i still really shocks me that people are defending this show...but i-i just fundamentally can't see the appeal people like dimiss criticism as "oh your expecting too much" or "sonic fans are never pleased". first of all yeah sure how dare i want the show to focus on who its named after, and second of all what am i as a sonic fan supposed to get out of this show, it contains none of the stuff that made fans love the franchises. just like you i don't even really hate wade i thought he was entertaining for the most part, if this show wasn't connected to the sonic franchise and was just its own thing, i think i would had a solid time with it, however it is a sonic product so i'm gonna judge it like that and as a sonic product, i personally think its kinda disgraceful. look i enjoyed the sonic movies but i feel like this show put the flaws of those movies up in the fore front, huge focus on human characters and the lack of elements from the games(though the sequel did improve on that), and good lord why are these sonic movies projects so against using music from the games they have access to some of the best music in gaming history and there just not interested in using it for some reason at this point i be shock if we hear music from the games.

9:09-9:16 I wouldn't say it's extraordinarily difficult making a comic relief character a mc, there has been and still are plenty of shows, games (video games), even in mangas, manhwas, and comics that has done that, if either of three has more than one mc ofc. But, I wouldn't say it is easy either 🤔. If done right, the comic relief character can actually be a good mc, and it has been done before in many shows, video games, comics, mangas, and manwhas that has the comic relief character being a mc as either the deuteragonist or the tritagonist.
My biggest worry is Shadow being a "bowling fan" like they hinted at the end. If they nerfed Knuckles and his tribe, I could only imagine what they'll do to Shadow.
I just want a faithful animated adaptation of the Sonic universe, akin to the Mario movie. Why is that so difficult? Even just animating the comics would suffice! I think an anime episodic series would work best. (I really want to see my girl Blaze get animated)

Sonic getting an Anime that's actually good would require someone in the Japanese animation industry actually taking a character as cartoonishly stylized as him seriously. There's a reason Sonic X added a human main character and (when it wasn't being forced to adapt the games) was mostly self-aware dicking around, even more so in the Japanese version than the 4Kids dub. Pretty much all of the official Sonic mangas that do exist are extremely goofy too, like Super Mario-kun levels of goofy. And though I really wish the OVA got greenlit for more episodes because it looked great and was really charming, you can tell it's still very clearly made for little kids. Not that it looks down on its target audience by any means, but it's clearly not the kind of badass teenage Shonen Anime à la Dragonball that people who ask for a Sonic Anime are imagining. Sonic just isn't a popular juggernaut in Japan the way he is in the west. I think you'd probably get a better result asking a competent western studio to do a Sonic "Anime" than the real deal. Think something like My Adventures with Superman, the Ducktales reboot, any of the Ninja Turtles shows that came out since the 2000s.
It was nice to see sonic and Tails but part of me wished we had more of them like sonic helping knuckles how to adapt life on earth and something happens to the emerald were they go on this side quest discover this world's version's of angel island

5:00 That’s literally the best idea for the show, not only can it introduce rouge in the series but if they put her in early and really do her good in the show, she wouldn’t need and ark or development in the 3rd movie when she’s with shadow cause she’s already been flushed out in THIS show and that way they can focus on shadow and would have enough time to add someone else (like Amy). In the beginning, they couldve said she came to earth looking for the master emerald cause she saw that big beacon of light from the 2nd movie and in the end of the show we could’ve seen how she joined G.U.N too. This was a great opportunity and it was completely wasted because if their having trouble throwing in new sonic characters for the story, they could use this spinoff stories to add more so the movies won’t feel as sloppy and tossed together. I guess the writers just aren’t thinking anymore 🤷🏽
(warning. big rant coming up.) somehow, they set up so much things for success. The trailers showing Knuckles being cool, Knuckles coaching Wade while Wade teaches Knuckles about human life, Knuckles and Wade bonding over their missing fathers (they tried this in episode 2 and gave up immediately afterwards for some reason). What was supposed to be a series of Knuckles going through a journey of self discovery and his new purpose in the world, was passed over to... Wade, instead of you know, the actual main character? it was impossible to fail, but they somehow did it. kinda sad how the only memorable and best parts of the show were when Knuckles was on screen. Wade was just "I'm stupid and incapable!" jokes over and over. same with his sister, "I'm ignorant, petty, annoying, and repeat the same FBI lines!" again and again. atleast with Knuckles not knowing about human life jokes, they did something new everytime and didn't make it annoying and overused.
Yeah, agreed. The dynamic between Wade and Knuckles should have been the focus and interestingly, there are those few moments in the show where it does work. But they are just so few and far between.

i feel like i'm the only one neutral about the Knuckles series cuz i enjoyed watching it expect for the musical numbers and i'm fine with Wade getting some more characterization and his uncle-nephew relationship with Knuckles, i also liked Wade's mom she's a badass lady, the fight scene with her and Knuckles are spot on i know a few majority of the fanbase complain about the human characters in the scu(expect for like Agent Stone, Eggman or Maria) but i'm okay with humans being apart of the story thats my overall opinion
There’s also the scene in episode 6 where Wanda tries to unlock the handcuffs with her thumb nail, and then her thumb gets dislocated. Fuck that scene.
i'd like to think that Pachakamek was still power hungry and more like his game counterpart when he was alive. But once he died, he got all the negativity tooken out of him and he was much more relaxed. Still doesnt excuse this silly version of him but I think this is the only way to explain it.

I rather the show be its own side story instead of introducing new characters like rogue and Amy that’ll be important in the movie if they were. The main problem with current mcu is how much shows you have to watch to know where the plot is right now or who are these characters
From the sheer unbridled vitriol I saw from Sam, Johnny and Nick, I expected FAR worse. But after being burned by Marvel and Star Wars countless times, I don't look the gift horse in the mouth when something less egregious is released. Having just come off of the utter nothing burger that was Sonic Prime, this was a breath of fresh air. On the count that all my time and investment wasn't for naught. Unlike the shows from Disney+ that are named after the titular character but sideline him for someone new and better (normally a self-insert) as well as insult and demean him, here at least I can look at Knuckles and know he's still cool. And I'm sorry but if people are gonna apologise for Sonic X sidelining the main cast, then they're gonna have to do the same thing here. And at least with Knuckles it's one Sonic character vs several human characters, not one human character against several Sonic characters. Could this have been better, absolutely. Could it have been worse; don't count your blessings. They could've given Knuckles the same treatment as Loki, or Boba Fett, or Obi-Wan, or Moon Knight, or Picard, or Mando. But they didn't. Yet people still bark and clap like seals for those shit shows.
I don't wanna be rude but... "The Shabbat Dinner" is my fave episode... Now the episode that wants to make me shoot myself is the "Flames of Disaster"... I still hate wanda with every fiber of my body tho. Also I would love a scene when knuckles gets back home and Maddie is pissed, that would actually bring some funny comedy... Or is that just me?
I've said it before and I'll say it again... They should have called this show "Wade Whipple & Knuckles." Not only would it be a less misleading title, but they also would have gotten bonus points for referencing Sonic 3 & Knuckles. This is kinda off topic but speaking of music.. i feel like the movies should use some but not a lot of game music. The most consistent part of the sonic series is how good the music is. I feel like they should try and make the movie series a unique soundtrack like the games. Imagine if they got Tomoya Ohtani to make some music for the movies. A unique but still sonic soundtrack with some game music sprinkled in would be so cool and make sense for a series with music status as high as the sonic series. Instead of wasting their budget on licensed songs.
I hope Wade gets one small contribution to the action in Sonic 3, with his training from episode 4. In the other movies, the only thing he actually did was distract Eggman from killing Sonic too soon. He took Stone hostage, but that didn’t actually do anything. Since Tom seems to be reaching obscurity in plot relevance, maybe he can properly be accompanied by Wade as a competent partner for the human interventions.
I just hope the reason Rouge wasn’t introduced in the knuckles show is because she will be introduced in the upcoming 3rd Sonic movie as the second or sub plot between her and knuckles similar to SA2.
I think my favorite part is the irony in how the thumbnail's headline says "Just Plain Awful", while the video mentions redeeming qualities. I feel like a lot of your criticisms come from letting your personal biases cloud your judgement rather than an actual problem with the show (i.e. Episode 4), then again, i myself am one to let my personal biases cloud my judgement (i was also going to ask the issues with Chris's writing, but i haven't even watched Sonic X) But i think your video does have SOME good points.
my personal thoughts on the knuckles show after watching it as soon as it came out: I quite literally loved that knuckles was snatching people from left and right, but I liked that they made sonic adventure references, yet there was so much potential with the show like make it so knuckles goes out and protects the master emerald like said, but even so I still think knuckles should've tried to find more secrets of his tribe, overall I hated what they did making wade literally protagonist cause paramount knew that if it was named wade, nobody would watch it.
The series is mediocre because of the bad writing. If you look closely, the first episode is very entertaining and shows Sonic's characters (and Knux himself) more than the rest. The reason? Different writer for each episode. Yes, each writer seemed to have an idea of how the show was supposed to take place, which led to this weird thing. The series should have been written by Fowler, he worked for Shadow the Hedghehog and knows enough about Sonic to have made the first 2 films with his team. Even though the first one wasn't perfect, it presented Sonic and Eggman well and the second one was simply a big improvement over the first one. This is the reason why I think that nothing is lost, the team that makes the films is aware of the criticism and tries to improve.
I'm someone who has always preferred practical sets and effects to CGI, and how the opera scene is done honestly felt like Hollywood decided to rudely insult them and act like they're worse than making everything a computer generated blob. Way to go...
12:54 So you were okay with Rachel in the first movie? I mean you are entitled to your own opinion, but I always considered her the worst for pretty much the same reason why we all hate the Wanda. I know the second movie had that infamous wedding scene that in some ways redeem, but it comes at the cost of wishing it had it's own movie rather than feeling integral to the movie 2's plot, especially when she and the Randall character don't even interact with any of the Sonic characters.
I think Rachel is a pretty meh character. I will admit she overstayed her welcome in the 2nd film, but at least, in some cases, her existence could lead to decent comedic moments. Like how in the first film, she was annoying, but it lead to funny interactions between Tom and Maddie. I cannot think of a single positive to Wanda no matter how hard I try.
@@thepjshowFair enough I guess, but I feel like the biggest problem I had with Rachel which I feel the sequel amplifies is that she feels like a character that belongs in an entirely different genre of film. It's like when someone was writing the script for the first movie, they take a scene from a script of some random romcom and have it be copied and pasted to the first movie's script.

Good video but your forgetting that the knuckles TV show was created during the Hollywood writers strike soo that's why we got what we got, but it still would've been cool if we got a knuckles TV show that goes more into his past and deeper into his tribe. guess we can't always get good things
Another question, why is it a show?I feel like with some tweaking, it could’ve been a two hour film. Now if each episode was an hour long, that would make sense, but nope.
Here's what I would do if I was in charge of the show while still remaining low budget. If they absolutely needed to have Wade in it, then fine but I would try to mostly have him in the background as a more grounded comic relief character. The first episode would be slightly tweaked, by instead of Knuckles getting grounded, and all that, the episode would be about Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles, discussing on where they should place the master emerald. Knuckles would then say "no need to worry my friends i have the perfect place" then it would pan to a shot of angel island. And have Knuckles explain that he must reach the emerald alter on his own. Wade would tag along. (I can't think of reason so just go with it) And the rest of the show would be about them exploring angel island. WITH THE MUSIC FROM THE GAMES IN IT! And they could have Knuckles just breezing through angel island, going through all the zones like hydrocity, ice cap, and mushroom hill zone. And if you want to cut down on the budget, than you can have 4 minutes per episode of Wade just struggling to get through the first part of angel island zone. And since it's just a forest, than it won't cost that much. Plus you can have him as the straight man commenting on all the wacky things he sees, like springs, spikes, and loop de loops. The villain would still be the buyer, but he would be sending some of eggmans robots to stop Knuckles. That would gradually get tougher and tougher, until he sends metal Knuckles to fight knuckles, in the series finale!
3:10 It's good thing James Marsden didn't return for the show because of all the backlash from Quit On Set about him supporting Brian Peck and all of that happened 1 month before the show came out.
If it was too expensive and time consuming to have knuckles in… knuckles, then just make it a cartoon or a short film. Hell that 2D animated sequence in Sonic 2 looked amazing. And 2D animation tends to be cheaper… but more time consuming. Or just make it a comic. Like how the MV doesn’t bother putting all that time and money into even more spin offs and prequels and just makes comics. Cuz nobody came for Wade and Wade wasn’t very good. For Scott pilgrim takes off, despite Scott being in it for like 3 eps, it was still good all the way through and told a well written fanfic. This didn’t utilize Wade very well and snuffed knuckles and didn’t tell a story good enough to excuse why he’s not there or even explain why he’s sidelined
I’m glad to hear that someone else is actually criticising it fairly. Me and my brothers were so excited for this show and when we watched it all together we were just disappointed. Yes there’s definitely things about the show I enjoyed, but honestly I didn’t like most of it, which sucks cause I wanted to love this show. After watching it, it made me nervous for Sonic 3 which is something I was super excited about
The worst part is, Willoughby and Mason had _excellent_ chemistry and stole the show. I actually liked their whole "Jessie and James" vibe of being comedic-but-slightly-intimidating. They were good comedic villains to play off of Knuckles' comedic seriousness and social awkwardness. If they cut out the entire Wade Wipple _garbage_ and just focused on Knuckles and Tails trying to stop Willoughby and Mason from some evil-but-harebrained plan to follow in Robotnik's footsteps, this could've been an amazing show. But I guess they didn't have the budget for that. At the very least, Willoughby and Mason _deserve_ to return in Sonic 3 in more serious villain roles, as they got screwed as much as Knuckles here.

Can i just defend the show, by saying the episodes were evenly split between knuckles and wade actually, knuckles got the majority of episodes 1 through three and wade got the majority of episodes four through six, both characters also appeared equally as frequent in the other episodes, i get that the show had more wade screentime than we expected BUT you have to remind yourself they had a lower budget than they did with the films and they had to pay idris elba allot of it to even voice act knuckles and the CGI mustve costed allot, i personally enjoyed the show very much, you dont have to focus on the bad things guys look at the good things too.
I feel like we’ve gotten way too critical and pessimistic about stuff like this in general. I do think it would’ve been better had Jeff Fowler handled production of the show, but it’s not like the show itself was absolutely terrible. I think they did their best with the budget they had and made it overall pretty fun
I just finished watching the Knuckles Series and honestly it would have been better as a Movie but I Enjoyed it for the Most Part, sure Wade was the Main Focus but I knew that it would have been expensive to make a CGI Character the Main Focus in a Series but I have Fun, I will admit that in the Future of this Cinematic Universe there how to limit the Human Cast and focus on the Real Stars but because this is a Start I give it a Pass for Now and who knows maybe putting humor is to balance out the Sonic 3 Movie to be Serious, I have to say that this show isn’t the worst thing to ever happen to the Sonic Franchise, that would be Forces, and I will admit that one thing I will admit with Everyone is Wanda(although that Finger Scene made me Laugh so Hard like in Episode 2 Knuckles imagining to do a MK2 Jax Fatality), I enjoy the Series that it’s a 7 out of 10, the only way this Knuckles Project would have worked was if it was a Movie or a Animated Series with Angel Island, Rouge, and the Chaotix but I had Fun and I loved the References from past Game like Tails Bed being Purple like the Tornado 2, the Beginning being a Homage to the Games, Shadow being hinted at a Event of 1974, The Buyer maybe being connected to either Ivo or Gerald, the Rogue Agents interesting Motivations to Neutralize the Morbians as Humanity Fears what they don’t understand, Knuckles getting his Hat and Love for Music, and that Musical being Fun to watch with 2 amazing references to 06 with Iblis and the Flames of Disaster, 7 out of 10.

In the last 2 episodes.This to me felt like a test run for more future series as Jeff Fowler said he wants this to be like the MCU with more spinoff focused on other characters like say Tails or Shadow but if this is what we look forward to in the future then I guess the Sonic Cinematic Universe might be entering an early grave soon and it does not help that Sony is gonna dissolve Paramount soon

The very state of this show convinced me that this was only greenlit after Paramount saw how popular this version of Knuckles was, if anyone had a story they wanted to tell with this character, it was botched by this, the budget limits and fucking bowling. To me, the most infuriating part of it all is that it destroyed any chance at making Tikal the spirit guide. Thank you Pachacamac, you ruined your daughter yet again.

This Knuckles is my favorite movie portrayal, and I felt more for Wade now. So, I wanna see more of the SCU (Sonic Cinematic Universe), and still waiting for Shadow and/or Amy Rose
I thought it was a pretty good show.I just don't understand why it's hated because Knuckles has lest screentime, dispite being his show. It's about both Knuckles AND Wade. People don't understand that the miniseries balanced the two characters. Knuckles help Wade becomes a warrior in his own way while Wade help Knuckles in saying that Earth is his home.
Anyway, I enjoyed all 8 episodes of the show. The characters are well-done, the story is brilliant and the action are cool. I give it a 10/10.

I honestly really liked the show. Knuckles character is kept consistent with the second movie and the jokes are actually pretty good here. Personally the first three were the best, they just had more action sequences and good cgi( not saying the rest is awful but in my opinion they had the best. I like Wade and to hear his backstory was relatable but they made it funny to some degree. Episode 4 in my opinion is the worst. Wade gets mannapped by his old friend who is a bounty hunter. Good start obviously Knuckles is going to come get him and take down Jack and Knuckles gets his hat in a cool way. Right? But no Wade is literally unconscious for 29 minutes and Pachacamac reappears. So I thought if they were going to train Wade into becoming a warrior and Knuckles would join him in this ancestral plane but No we get to listen to a cheap budget musical which is all right. Then Wade punches out of his cage and cuts Jacks hair off and drives his motorbike back to Wendy’s house and Knuckles says “ He’s ready”. Knuckles in the episode for a minute or less! Then episode five is decent. Then episode six is fine but the ending was cool but rushed and knuckles got beat up like a redheads stepchild. Then post credits and I thought they were gonna show a sneak peek for Sonic Movie 3 to get us all hyped but Nooo! I’d rate it a 7/10 pretty good but if Jeff Fowler directed the whole thing I would guarantee it would’ve been a 9.9/10.

Western production on video game has had this irreverent attitude from the beginning, because games like Donkey Kong Country amd Crash bandicoot WERE jsut poorly understood fundamentals of gaming lampooning on Mario.

The show highlights the biggest problem these movies have: the human OCs (except Agent Stone) are unfunny and annoying. I really hope they learn from their mistakes and don't give Rachel, Wade and the others too much screentime in Sonic 3. Shadow's story needs to be done right. Poor boy is in desperate need of some good writing.

True. Though I'd say Tom and Maddie are good. They're actually a very supportive couple and have a very happy and healthy marriage. Which showcases why Sonic looks up to them the most in Green Hills, even becoming his adoptive parents. And best of all, they act like normal people.

I think this is reductive; bear in mind grand sweeping assessments are what created the 2010s era in the first place.
I think there is an issue in the way the Knuckles Show handled the Human OCs, but removing them entirely is not the solution. A lot of the heart and soul of Sonic 2 came off of the back of the human chemistries that were built up. I get what you mean though.
9:16 I think the best example of this is Better Call Saul. Better Call Saul's protagonist is the comedy relief in Breaking Bad and the writers manage to make him one of the most complex characters in not only the Breaking Bad franchise but in media.
I'm not saying I expect this cinematic universe to reach the level of BCS but if you want to make the comedy relief character one of protagonists you have to do a better job than this show.

I think Pachacamac should've been the villain because he was a villain in the games, and the Knuckles clan killed Longclaw, they wanted power. This could've been about Knuckles learning about his tribe not being what he thought they were, and the ghost of pachacamac wanted knuckles to spread the tribe's philosophy, to continue HIS legacy, and the reason why he could'nt hug Knuckles, but could bang into things could be because he's being punished for his sins in life, like Jacob Marley.

I liked the show for what it was. I’ll admit it’s not perfect like I feel like knuckles could have had a little more screen time and I don’t hate Wade I just feel like some scenes could have been shortened a little and I personally don’t mind the bowling matches cause I like bowling but I think the thing that stings me the most is the ending cause it feels rushed it should have the final battle with knuckles go on a bit more and have the post credits be knuckles and wade arrive back in Green hills with Sonic, Tails, and Maddie greeting them.
My rating for this show is a 6.5 or 7 out of 10.
That is a pretty fair and reasoned take. I don't hate wade either, but it's more the characters and story surrounding his character that is the biggest issue. If they wanted to include Wade, they should have focused on his interactions with Knuckles and build them up as a unique duo. And, yeah, the ending is so anticlimactic. Even the post credits scene was nothing but wasted time.

Episode 3 made my youngest son have a total breakdown over how awful Wade's sister was to him. That was too much for me. The rest of the episodes made sense from Wade's perspective. But it was Wade and Knuckles

While I don’t mind Wade as a character, I do feel that they made a crucial mistake of giving him too much screen time and ignoring all the other characters.
They could’ve made it to where we learn about his backstory in snippets, while giving enough screen time to the other underdeveloped characters so that we can grow to understand them better and not feel so overwhelmed.

9:09-9:16 I wouldn't say it's extraordinarily difficult making a comic relief character a mc, there has been and still are plenty of shows, games (video games), even in mangas, manhwas, and comics that has done that, if either of three has more than one mc ofc. But, I wouldn't say it is easy either 🤔. If done right, the comic relief character can actually be a good mc, and it has been done before in many shows, video games, comics, mangas, and manwhas that has the comic relief character being a mc as either the deuteragonist or the tritagonist.
Well it certainly didn’t end up good with stuff like Planet Sheen, Cars 2, or the Minions.

Sonic getting an Anime that's actually good would require someone in the Japanese animation industry actually taking a character as cartoonishly stylized as him seriously. There's a reason Sonic X added a human main character and (when it wasn't being forced to adapt the games) was mostly self-aware dicking around, even more so in the Japanese version than the 4Kids dub. Pretty much all of the official Sonic mangas that do exist are extremely goofy too, like Super Mario-kun levels of goofy. And though I really wish the OVA got greenlit for more episodes because it looked great and was really charming, you can tell it's still very clearly made for little kids. Not that it looks down on its target audience by any means, but it's clearly not the kind of badass teenage Shonen Anime à la Dragonball that people who ask for a Sonic Anime are imagining. Sonic just isn't a popular juggernaut in Japan the way he is in the west.
I think you'd probably get a better result asking a competent western studio to do a Sonic "Anime" than the real deal. Think something like My Adventures with Superman, the Ducktales reboot, any of the Ninja Turtles shows that came out since the 2000s.
It was nice to see sonic and Tails but part of me wished we had more of them like sonic helping knuckles how to adapt life on earth and something happens to the emerald were they go on this side quest discover this world's version's of angel island

That’s literally the best idea for the show, not only can it introduce rouge in the series but if they put her in early and really do her good in the show, she wouldn’t need and ark or development in the 3rd movie when she’s with shadow cause she’s already been flushed out in THIS show and that way they can focus on shadow and would have enough time to add someone else (like Amy). In the beginning, they couldve said she came to earth looking for the master emerald cause she saw that big beacon of light from the 2nd movie and in the end of the show we could’ve seen how she joined G.U.N too. This was a great opportunity and it was completely wasted because if their having trouble throwing in new sonic characters for the story, they could use this spinoff stories to add more so the movies won’t feel as sloppy and tossed together. I guess the writers just aren’t thinking anymore 🤷🏽

somehow, they set up so much things for success. The trailers showing Knuckles being cool, Knuckles coaching Wade while Wade teaches Knuckles about human life, Knuckles and Wade bonding over their missing fathers (they tried this in episode 2 and gave up immediately afterwards for some reason). What was supposed to be a series of Knuckles going through a journey of self discovery and his new purpose in the world, was passed over to... Wade, instead of you know, the actual main character? it was impossible to fail, but they somehow did it. kinda sad how the only memorable and best parts of the show were when Knuckles was on screen. Wade was just "I'm stupid and incapable!" jokes over and over. same with his sister, "I'm ignorant, petty, annoying, and repeat the same FBI lines!" again and again. atleast with Knuckles not knowing about human life jokes, they did something new everytime and didn't make it annoying and overused.
Yeah, agreed. The dynamic between Wade and Knuckles should have been the focus and interestingly, there are those few moments in the show where it does work. But they are just so few and far between.

i feel like i'm the only one neutral about the Knuckles series cuz i enjoyed watching it expect for the musical numbers and i'm fine with Wade getting some more characterization and his uncle-nephew relationship with Knuckles, i also liked Wade's mom she's a badass lady, the fight scene with her and Knuckles are spot on
i know a few majority of the fanbase complain about the human characters in the scu(expect for like Agent Stone, Eggman or Maria) but i'm okay with humans being apart of the story thats my overall opinion

i'd like to think that Pachakamek was still power hungry and more like his game counterpart when he was alive. But once he died, he got all the negativity tooken out of him and he was much more relaxed. Still doesnt excuse this silly version of him but I think this is the only way to explain it.

I rather the show be its own side story instead of introducing new characters like rogue and Amy that’ll be important in the movie if they were. The main problem with current mcu is how much shows you have to watch to know where the plot is right now or who are these characters
From the sheer unbridled vitriol I saw from Sam, Johnny and Nick, I expected FAR worse.
But after being burned by Marvel and Star Wars countless times, I don't look the gift horse in the mouth when something less egregious is released.
Having just come off of the utter nothing burger that was Sonic Prime, this was a breath of fresh air. On the count that all my time and investment wasn't for naught.
Unlike the shows from Disney+ that are named after the titular character but sideline him for someone new and better (normally a self-insert) as well as insult and demean him, here at least I can look at Knuckles and know he's still cool.
And I'm sorry but if people are gonna apologise for Sonic X sidelining the main cast, then they're gonna have to do the same thing here.
And at least with Knuckles it's one Sonic character vs several human characters, not one human character against several Sonic characters.
Could this have been better, absolutely. Could it have been worse; don't count your blessings.
They could've given Knuckles the same treatment as Loki, or Boba Fett, or Obi-Wan, or Moon Knight, or Picard, or Mando. But they didn't. Yet people still bark and clap like seals for those shit shows.
I don't wanna be rude but... "The Shabbat Dinner" is my fave episode... Now the episode that wants to make me shoot myself is the "Flames of Disaster"... I still hate wanda with every fiber of my body tho.
Also I would love a scene when knuckles gets back home and Maddie is pissed, that would actually bring some funny comedy... Or is that just me?

I've said it before and I'll say it again... They should have called this show "Wade Whipple & Knuckles." Not only would it be a less misleading title, but they also would have gotten bonus points for referencing Sonic 3 & Knuckles.

This is kinda off topic but speaking of music.. i feel like the movies should use some but not a lot of game music. The most consistent part of the sonic series is how good the music is. I feel like they should try and make the movie series a unique soundtrack like the games. Imagine if they got Tomoya Ohtani to make some music for the movies. A unique but still sonic soundtrack with some game music sprinkled in would be so cool and make sense for a series with music status as high as the sonic series. Instead of wasting their budget on licensed songs.
I hope Wade gets one small contribution to the action in Sonic 3, with his training from episode 4. In the other movies, the only thing he actually did was distract Eggman from killing Sonic too soon. He took Stone hostage, but that didn’t actually do anything. Since Tom seems to be reaching obscurity in plot relevance, maybe he can properly be accompanied by Wade as a competent partner for the human interventions.
I just hope the reason Rouge wasn’t introduced in the knuckles show is because she will be introduced in the upcoming 3rd Sonic movie as the second or sub plot between her and knuckles similar to SA2.
I think my favorite part is the irony in how the thumbnail's headline says "Just Plain Awful", while the video mentions redeeming qualities.
I feel like a lot of your criticisms come from letting your personal biases cloud your judgement rather than an actual problem with the show (i.e. Episode 4), then again, i myself am one to let my personal biases cloud my judgement (i was also going to ask the issues with Chris's writing, but i haven't even watched Sonic X)

my personal thoughts on the knuckles show after watching it as soon as it came out: I quite literally loved that knuckles was snatching people from left and right, but I liked that they made sonic adventure references, yet there was so much potential with the show like make it so knuckles goes out and protects the master emerald like said, but even so I still think knuckles should've tried to find more secrets of his tribe, overall I hated what they did making wade literally protagonist cause paramount knew that if it was named wade, nobody would watch it.
The series is mediocre because of the bad writing.
If you look closely, the first episode is very entertaining and shows Sonic's characters (and Knux himself) more than the rest.
The reason? Different writer for each episode.
Yes, each writer seemed to have an idea of how the show was supposed to take place, which led to this weird thing.
The series should have been written by Fowler, he worked for Shadow the Hedghehog and knows enough about Sonic to have made the first 2 films with his team.
Even though the first one wasn't perfect, it presented Sonic and Eggman well and the second one was simply a big improvement over the first one.
This is the reason why I think that nothing is lost, the team that makes the films is aware of the criticism and tries to improve.
I'm someone who has always preferred practical sets and effects to CGI, and how the opera scene is done honestly felt like Hollywood decided to rudely insult them and act like they're worse than making everything a computer generated blob.
Way to go...
12:54 So you were okay with Rachel in the first movie? I mean you are entitled to your own opinion, but I always considered her the worst for pretty much the same reason why we all hate the Wanda. I know the second movie had that infamous wedding scene that in some ways redeem, but it comes at the cost of wishing it had it's own movie rather than feeling integral to the movie 2's plot, especially when she and the Randall character don't even interact with any of the Sonic characters.
I think Rachel is a pretty meh character. I will admit she overstayed her welcome in the 2nd film, but at least, in some cases, her existence could lead to decent comedic moments. Like how in the first film, she was annoying, but it lead to funny interactions between Tom and Maddie. I cannot think of a single positive to Wanda no matter how hard I try.
@@thepjshowFair enough I guess, but I feel like the biggest problem I had with Rachel which I feel the sequel amplifies is that she feels like a character that belongs in an entirely different genre of film. It's like when someone was writing the script for the first movie, they take a scene from a script of some random romcom and have it be copied and pasted to the first movie's script.
I still agree with what Fadel said, watch episodes 1,2, and 6, but for some reason I’d also watch episode 3 but only the parts Knuckles is in

Another question, why is it a show?I feel like with some tweaking, it could’ve been a two hour film. Now if each episode was an hour long, that would make sense, but nope.
Here's what I would do if I was in charge of the show while still remaining low budget. If they absolutely needed to have Wade in it, then fine but I would try to mostly have him in the background as a more grounded comic relief character.
The first episode would be slightly tweaked, by instead of Knuckles getting grounded, and all that, the episode would be about Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles, discussing on where they should place the master emerald. Knuckles would then say "no need to worry my friends i have the perfect place" then it would pan to a shot of angel island. And have Knuckles explain that he must reach the emerald alter on his own.
Wade would tag along.
(I can't think of reason so just go with it)
And the rest of the show would be about them exploring angel island. WITH THE MUSIC FROM THE GAMES IN IT! And they could have Knuckles just breezing through angel island, going through all the zones like hydrocity, ice cap, and mushroom hill zone. And if you want to cut down on the budget, than you can have 4 minutes per episode of Wade just struggling to get through the first part of angel island zone. And since it's just a forest, than it won't cost that much. Plus you can have him as the straight man commenting on all the wacky things he sees, like springs, spikes, and loop de loops.
The villain would still be the buyer, but he would be sending some of eggmans robots to stop Knuckles. That would gradually get tougher and tougher, until he sends metal Knuckles to fight knuckles, in the series finale!
3:10 It's good thing James Marsden didn't return for the show because of all the backlash from Quit On Set about him supporting Brian Peck and all of that happened 1 month before the show came out.

If it was too expensive and time consuming to have knuckles in… knuckles, then just make it a cartoon or a short film. Hell that 2D animated sequence in Sonic 2 looked amazing. And 2D animation tends to be cheaper… but more time consuming. Or just make it a comic. Like how the MV doesn’t bother putting all that time and money into even more spin offs and prequels and just makes comics. Cuz nobody came for Wade and Wade wasn’t very good. For Scott pilgrim takes off, despite Scott being in it for like 3 eps, it was still good all the way through and told a well written fanfic. This didn’t utilize Wade very well and snuffed knuckles and didn’t tell a story good enough to excuse why he’s not there or even explain why he’s sidelined
I’m glad to hear that someone else is actually criticising it fairly. Me and my brothers were so excited for this show and when we watched it all together we were just disappointed. Yes there’s definitely things about the show I enjoyed, but honestly I didn’t like most of it, which sucks cause I wanted to love this show. After watching it, it made me nervous for Sonic 3 which is something I was super excited about
We really don’t need Wade in the Sonic Universe at all. We only needed Knuckles to be the focus, this show was torture! 👀
The worst part is, Willoughby and Mason had _excellent_ chemistry and stole the show. I actually liked their whole "Jessie and James" vibe of being comedic-but-slightly-intimidating. They were good comedic villains to play off of Knuckles' comedic seriousness and social awkwardness. If they cut out the entire Wade Wipple _garbage_ and just focused on Knuckles and Tails trying to stop Willoughby and Mason from some evil-but-harebrained plan to follow in Robotnik's footsteps, this could've been an amazing show. But I guess they didn't have the budget for that. At the very least, Willoughby and Mason _deserve_ to return in Sonic 3 in more serious villain roles, as they got screwed as much as Knuckles here.
This show wasn't necessary at all , it wasn't gonna be any different if we started the 3rd movie right from where the 2nd movie ended

I don't think the series needed any expansion , it's a movie series based on a video game platformer franchise , every movie can follow the lore of a game from the series and that's it , if the tv shows won't do that then they aren't necessary at all and the Knuckles show proved that

Can i just defend the show, by saying the episodes were evenly split between knuckles and wade actually, knuckles got the majority of episodes 1 through three and wade got the majority of episodes four through six, both characters also appeared equally as frequent in the other episodes, i get that the show had more wade screentime than we expected BUT you have to remind yourself they had a lower budget than they did with the films and they had to pay idris elba allot of it to even voice act knuckles and the CGI mustve costed allot, i personally enjoyed the show very much, you dont have to focus on the bad things guys look at the good things too.
I feel like we’ve gotten way too critical and pessimistic about stuff like this in general. I do think it would’ve been better had Jeff Fowler handled production of the show, but it’s not like the show itself was absolutely terrible. I think they did their best with the budget they had and made it overall pretty fun

I just finished watching the Knuckles Series and honestly it would have been better as a Movie but I Enjoyed it for the Most Part, sure Wade was the Main Focus but I knew that it would have been expensive to make a CGI Character the Main Focus in a Series but I have Fun, I will admit that in the Future of this Cinematic Universe there how to limit the Human Cast and focus on the Real Stars but because this is a Start I give it a Pass for Now and who knows maybe putting humor is to balance out the Sonic 3 Movie to be Serious, I have to say that this show isn’t the worst thing to ever happen to the Sonic Franchise, that would be Forces, and I will admit that one thing I will admit with Everyone is Wanda(although that Finger Scene made me Laugh so Hard like in Episode 2 Knuckles imagining to do a MK2 Jax Fatality), I enjoy the Series that it’s a 7 out of 10, the only way this Knuckles Project would have worked was if it was a Movie or a Animated Series with Angel Island, Rouge, and the Chaotix but I had Fun and I loved the References from past Game like Tails Bed being Purple like the Tornado 2, the Beginning being a Homage to the Games, Shadow being hinted at a Event of 1974, The Buyer maybe being connected to either Ivo or Gerald, the Rogue Agents interesting Motivations to Neutralize the Morbians as Humanity Fears what they don’t understand, Knuckles getting his Hat and Love for Music, and that Musical being Fun to watch with 2 amazing references to 06 with Iblis and the Flames of Disaster, 7 out of 10.

I didnt hate it but Knuckles himself felt like an after thought and they obviously blew the CGI budget on the 1st 2 episodes as Knux takes a back seat and Wade takes over in the last few episodes then Jeff fowler is like oh this is about Knux and puts him back in. In the last 2 episodes.This to me felt like a test run for more future series as Jeff Fowler said he wants this to be like the MCU with more spinoff focused on other characters like say Tails or Shadow but if this is what we look forward to in the future then I guess the Sonic Cinematic Universe might be entering an early grave soon and it does not help that Sony is gonna dissolve Paramount soon
I’m gonna make like a stop motion of the knuckles series but it’s gonna be different but in one scene it will make that knuckles remembered his tribe and what they would have done , and that’s how he would end the villan, I’m gonna release it on June 8
The very state of this show convinced me that this was only greenlit after Paramount saw how popular this version of Knuckles was, if anyone had a story they wanted to tell with this character, it was botched by this, the budget limits and fucking bowling.
To me, the most infuriating part of it all is that it destroyed any chance at making Tikal the spirit guide. Thank you Pachacamac, you ruined your daughter yet again.
