  • So I went to Yandles mainly to heckle Mark Becket as he was demonstrating to a club on site, but by coincidence another friend Bryan Milham was demonstrating in the shop.
So naturally I went early to catch a bit of Bryan's demo before Mark started. Bryan was using a tool that I have seen before, it is simple, cheap, easy to make and very useful.
So I figured I would share it with you, in case you have also seen and forgotten it.
No elaborate turning today but I will stretch the job out to make space for your Monday lunchtime chat with each other.
    The demonstrator I Heckled:- mark.beckett.w...
The demonstrator I pinched the idea from:- weston-woodtur...
    The chuck I used:- www.chronos.lt...
The shop that had the demo and club night:- www.yandles.co...
The sideline that may make me a billionaire:- woodturners.uk/ (needs 10 billion UK woodturners to sign up though)

Very nice handle Pete. Make a great tool with the chuck pressed in. Well done.

Thank you Doug, handle is a bit OTT for the job, but my most important customer is me so I may as well have a nice to hold oversize pin drill.

You are welcome Andy, don't want people not watching as they are out of the habit on Tuesdays...

couldn't make it today pete but just watched the whole thing, a good tool to have as i have 2 of those chucks from previous drills i will make one

It is a handy additional tool, if you have 2 chucks try 2 handles, I am undecided if I should have gone for a shorter wider "palm" handle this one is sort of half and half and the aim was to get an inline grip with one finger behind to lock it or I can hold the ferrule between 2 fingers and rest the back against the pad at the base of my thumb for pressure. Will need to use it on various timbers to decide.

Huh, I bet that's better to hold than the little hand drill. I have one and find it a bit tricky to keep hold of.

It is for me, cos it is made for my hand :-) I also have a small "pin drill" which is OK but only for holes of 1mm or below.
