    Fun fact:
Ferdinand Blumentritt's grandmother of father side is a descendant of the governor of the Philippines by the name of Alcazar.
Andres Alcazar, in fact served as governor and attorney-general from February to December, 1616, during the absence and after the death of the Governor-General, Juan de Silva. This Alcazar might have been a forefather of Blumentritt. Thus the bow is drawn from the Philippines to Prague and Leitmeritz and through the friendship with Jose Rizal back to the Philippines

I can truly say Prague is one of the most beautiful places my family and I ever visited in Europe. From Wenceslas Square to Charles bridge standing over the Vitava river, the Church of Our Lady of Victories, also referred as the Shrine of the Infant Jesus of Prague, Jewish quarter and walking down the old streets, of course the famous Prague medieval astronomical clock was a unique experience. Prague’s middle age Romanesque and Gothic architecture is just phenomenal and impressive.

Calling each other my brother proof that their friendship was so deep. Nowaday you call someone "hey bro" coz you don't know his name. My husband and I went to Litomerice in 1966 when we were newly married. We went to the town hall and when the Czech officials found out we were Filipinos, they showed us Rizal's signature in a huge registry book for visitors, then they took us to the hotel where he stayed. There was a plaque at the entrance commemorating his stay.. They attached a small curtain on it so I could formally unveil the plaque. In those days Filipinos did not travel to socialist countries. When my husband told them
that I am a great grand niece of Jose Rizal, they were excited at the coincidence.

Sadly because religion is still big in Philippines, meaning Spain won. Rizal was a Grand Master Freemason(Ancient Freemasonry not the modern materialist rich guys club) not Catholic or Christian. Until Filipinos free themselves from chains of Colonialism(Churches) theyll never think for themselves. Though sadly he only left hidden symbolism in his works about Freemasonry/Alchemy. Filipinos at that time cant comprehend Freemasonic teachings so he made it into novels. Freemasonry/Alchemy is achieving the highest evolved form of the mind, how he became a Polymath super genius by realizing what Leonardo da Vinci(also a Grandmaster Freemason) has unlocked, the full potential of the human mind, today known as Cognitive Science. :) This is what Rizal wanted Filipinos to realize one day, he specifically said "I'm not writing for this generation, but for the future generations". Filipinos just need to re-decipher his writings. If you search La Sibilia Cumana, it's a prophetic board game Rizal created out of Freemasonic teachings. Very interesting. If Pinoys can realize this is how he hid meanings within meanings his literature will show a whole new dimension. :) Except no, the Spanish School System made Rizal a task for school WORK, and solely focus on dramas of the Characters. Not what Rizal actually meant hidden in plain sight.

He was born in Prague, which was the capital of Czech (Bohemian) kingdom, that was part of Austrian empire back then. He was born in a German speaking family, but it is very likely that he was fluent in both German and Czech. Knowledge of both languages was very common during this time.

The Philippines would eventually be rid of the Spanish thanks to the Spanish-American war of 1898 that saw The Philippines, Guam, Cuba, and Puerto Rico become territories of the United States. The US planned to give independence to The Philippines in the early 1940's but WWII interfered. Independence was granted on July 4, 1946. Interesting little facts: an older version of the 100 Peso note is the only one in the world (I believe) picturing both the flags of the currency's country and the US as it shows the lowering of the US flag at independence. Silver peso coins were minted in the US ( I have a coin from 1908), the American Military Cemetery in Manila is the only one flying both the US and the host country's flags, the only one where non-US soldiers are buried as Filipino scouts are also interred there, there are more people than graves as some graves have more than one person, they had been buried together then removed from Japanese prisoner camp graveyards, could not be identified and so were re-interred together, all the grass you see in the cemetery was propagated from just two square feet of turf.
The central building of the US Embassy is the former governor's mansion. If you walk behind the building you will see a stone marking the spot where embassy staff burned the American flag and buried the ashes so the Japanese could not capture it. The flagpole out front has shrapnel holes from the battle of Manila. American artillery set up on the grounds to bombard Japanese holed up in Intramuros, the old Spanish fort in the center of Manila.
On September 3, 1945, the Japanese surrendered at Camp John Hay in Baguio in the American Governor's house. (Baguio was a nice area in the mountains north of Manila and a place to escape the heat.) A painting of the surrender and the surrender table itself were still there while I lived and worked in Manila from 1993 to 1999.
You have a great channel and thanks for stirring these memories for me.

Wow thanks for going back to your memory lane about our history. There's also an American cemetery in Iloilo City. There's also a statue of a British figure in the middle of our city. And yes I'm glad and honored that USA granted us independence with a big bang unlike Afghanistan. 😊 Besides we got rid of King Filepe but every year we also celebrate the history of both countries including the Japs. Philippines was already westernized even the time of Dr. Jose Rizal. USA was not in the picture at that time but many of our Ancestors go back and forth to study and travel in Europe. USA came at a later picture. Her video is amazing. We keep seeing Mr. Blumentritt name in our streets and so is Gen. McArthur. 😂

Actually, Blumentritt name was been there for many many decades - the people treat it like
a town instead of just a street. When you ask someone, what part are you in Manila? They will always
says "I'm from Blumentritt or I was born in Blumentritt.
I didn't know who Blumentritt was but now I know --- thank you

The town has a sister city relationship with Calamba City, Laguna Province approximately about 50km South of Manila the birthplace of our National Hero and in Wilhelmsfeld, Baden Württemberg, Germany Dr. Jose Rizal stayed at the house of Pastor Karl Ulmer in 1886 where he wrote the last chapters of his novel "Noli me Tangere" and the street that runs along the house where he stayed is named in his honor called "Jose Rizal Straße".
