  • Performing the required NFPA 20 and 25 annual flow test of a 1,000 gpm horizontal split case centrifugal fire pump with a diesel motor driver. There are several required items that are not covered in this video. This video is just to give you an idea of what is done during a fire pump flow test. Here is a link to the electric fire pump test I did.

Hi, great videos on fire sprinkler systems / pumps etc. 👍, I got a question on the installation / water supply to the fire pump set up , as far as l can see on the suction side of the fire pump, below the 8" O.S.&Y. there is an 8" Tee , and off of that reduces to 6 " ( pump by - pass ) and goes around to connect to the sprinkler manifolds, my question is ? The 6 " check valve located right against the drywall ? It's for the F.D.C. ? If so , it's in the wrong location , unless the code have changed or that check valve is part of another system ? I have been wrong before ... it called my attention once I started watching the video.
Keep up the good work 👊

I would agree with you, it should be on the other side of the bypass check valve so it is after the control valves on the bypass check valve. It's also way to close to the outside wall for our climate in Illinois. The temperature here for the past two days was -10f. There is about 1' of pipe between the FDC and check valve. It is probably frozen now. It is very difficult to get anything changed once the AHJ approves the install. Unfortunately the AHJ inspectors around here tend to miss a lot. Thanks for watching and commenting.

I would have a conversation with your engine service guys about the mess left in the drip pan under the engine.... That engine should be spotless if they are doing the job right! Do you cycle crank/over crank the batteries and test SG or is that in the scope for your engine guy?

The customer contracts out the engine service. We do not have anything to do with it. I check that the engine starts on each battery and that the over speed works. Everything else is on the diesel mechanic including fuel sample testing.

What did you use at the hose monster to get your pressure readings?

Super sketchy having the controller door open while you’re kicking it on

Not on a diesel pump controller, you are thinking of an electric pump controller. You have to open it on this controller to access the buttons.
