In this video, Ed Edmunds talks about the back story of this incredible movie monster from the 1950's and how we obtained the original molds.
Paul Blaisdell created the aliens for the 1957 Science fiction/comedy horror film Invasion of the Saucer Men. In the early 1980's we produced a very limited number of masks from Paul Blaisdell's original molds and prop. The mask was already hard to find and highly collectible in the 80's. We have decided to rerelease Invasion of the Saucer Men as a collectible standing display available in two colors. The film was in black and white but the original creature was orange. However, in all the posters and publicity they used green aliens. We are offering both!
In 1983, Distortions Unlimited was able to obtain Paul Blaisdell's Brain Mold, ear molds, and an actual prop used in the making of Invasion of the Saucer Men. A mold was made of the face and neck of the prop. Then the Brain, Face, and Ear molds were all poured and masters made. The individual masters were then seamed together. Ed added veins in clay and a new master mold was made. A few Foam Masters were then made from the master mold. Later, Tom Savini got one of the Foam Masters which later went to Jordu Schell and then Distortions got it back from Jordu. We then made production molds from the foam master that we used to create the collectible display and bust we are offering today. What a journey across space and time.

Fascinating story. Thank you for sharing.
Wonderful job
Another good piece from distortions, love the history
Many thanks!
Great Story, love the Saucer men!!
They say never meet your heroes, but that doesn't apply to Ed Edmunds. He and his whole team are artistic geniuses and really genuine, nice people.
Ha! You've fallen for our evil plan...actually, thank you...
I loved that movie,great job😊
I can still hear Jordu... another alien... lol 😂
It's the stories and connections that make these monsters from the past legendary today. You went from the original artist, to Tom, to Jordu, then to Kirk.
The team did a great job on "Saucer Man".
brill like it looks good
I really enjoyed that. I like your blast from the past, stories.👍
Listening to the history really makes me want ten of these in my yard! But then again, doesn’t anyone?! Great job!!!👍
These are great, some really cool history behind them!
I’ve been asking for more Aliens and you have delivered ‼️👽👽👽👾🛸👾
I absolutely love this guy! The story behind him is not only interesting, but entertaining. Y’all did a fantastic job on him!!! 🎃👻👽
I can only imagine the feeling of obtaining the molds! Molds to something you loved watching as a child! Incredible to think, one day, you'd have the original! Love that YOU do! Hope 2024 is an absolutely AMAZING year for all at Distortions! I truly enjoy watching your videos and all of the Making Monsters episodes!
Oh man, more to add to my shopping list.
Ed, I love the artistry and your story. It really makes it complete.
Super cool! They are bigger than I expected! Great work Distortions!
I absolutely love hearing the story you just told, how amazing! Great work once again distortions! Now I need to get a bigger living room! These are absolutely amazing, and they need to be added to my collection of distortions creations! Bravo!
Damn it! I was just about to sculpt one...
So glad this movie is finally getting its deserved appreciation. It's definitely one of the pioneers of the sci-fi alien invasion films
These are incredible. If you’re a fan of b movies, even more “modern” ones like Killer Klowns, you’d enjoy this movie. These guys are a bit pricey for me, but absolutely impeccable. Ed’s spot on with the monster characters. Love this history.
They did great! Who doesn’t love aliens!!!
You probably know this but they didn't necessarily color things "right" when they filmed B&W because they were looking to achieve a specific shade of gray that would read like the color they wanted to represent. That's why you see old cartoons like Steamboat Willie painted in shades of gray instead of simply painting them in color and shooting them in B&W. Love this thing, BTW!
I would love to hear the history on the ufo and aliens for that Roswell ufo museum
He looks cool I like distortions 👽
👽VERY COOL👽
Way to stick to your guns, Adam. Lol
Great bit of history.
Amazing!
Fascinating ❤️ I sure do remember this movie as a kid👍
Love it !
So cool! Thanks for this video.
He has come back from the past!
Mano was possibly not happy to do another alien 😂
Surprised you didn't know the "actor" in the photo, at 9:15, with Blaisdell. It's Bob Burns.
No way!!!! I love Bob! I've only known him from the late 80's. He looks very different!
I have said for years, ever since I first saw this way cool bubble head alien in the 60s, that this was the coolest freaking creature ever in the history of sci-fi Alien Invaders!!!
or have 3 colors, orange Flesh would be the Behind the scenes color/real color, Green is Movie Poster Promotion color, Black white/grey would be Actual Movie Color
🔥🔥🔥
Amen to Frankenstein as the best.
Are you by chance going to make a wearable mask/hands set available? I know you guys don't usually do wearables but I think it would sell.
Great question. Not for this one, it will only be offering it as a foam filled bust or display
❤
Both paint jobs look to be very simplified versions of what appeared in the film and in stills. A lot of the darker splotching and streaking have been left off (or lost in the more flattened lighting seen here. But nice work regardless.
That, of course, is Bob Burns in the photo with Paul where they are showing off the head. Bog DID in fact help puppet the saucerman head/mask for post-production insert shots, but, other than a quick shot of Bob himself getting jabbed with a needle-tipped alien hand was not an actor in the film itself. (But maybe you knew that?)
The term LGM--Little Green Men was a pretty well-known (and dismissive) cliche by the time the film was made. I certainly had heard it before I saw the film (on its original release).
Thanks for the video
I am lucky to say that I have an original Saucerman head used in the movie.
The green variant looks like the underside of lettuce leaves is anyone else think so?🥬👽
I loved that movie,great job😊
