A House Oversight and Accountability Committee hearing devolved into chaos Thursday night as Reps. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) clashed after the firebrand Republican accused Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-Texas) of wearing “fake eyelashes.”
The comment - which was made during a markup to hold Attorney General Merrick Garland in contempt of Congress - prompted nearly an hour of disorder in the committee, with lawmakers screaming over one another and hurling insults left and right, leaving Chair James Comer (R-Ky.) struggling to maintain order.
The madness culminated Thursday night with a vote on whether or not to allow Greene to continue speaking during the hearing, which the panel ultimately granted in a 22-20 vote. Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-Colo.) - who has butted heads with Greene in the past - crossed party lines to vote against allowing the Georgia lawmaker to proceed during the hearing. Boebert was sitting two seats away from Greene during the vote.
“I hope you brought your popcorn,” Greene exclaimed at one point during the hearing.
Republicans moved to hold Garland in contempt after the attorney general refused to hand over the audio recording of President Biden’s interview with special counsel Robert Hur, despite already having the transcript of the conversation. Biden claimed executive privilege over the audio recordings.
The vote passed 24-20 along party lines just after 11 p.m. EDT Thursday night, hours after the House Judiciary Committee did the same. The full House will now vote on holding the attorney general in contempt.

As a black woman, I'll say this: seeing Mrs. Crockett being told to calm down and being told she's out of order when she didn't start this really took me back to so many experiences at work. The amount of times a dwight woman has started shit with me and then I'm the one being told how to behave... It got to the point that if I know my supervisor will be a dwight woman, I'm not interested in the job or contract. At least a dwight man will be open with their racism.

Crockett didn't actually call Green a bleach blonde birch body, she asked if someone call someone those things in the house would it be allowed, because they were Green to talk about her appearance. Crockett was asking for an apology and to have Green's attack on her removed. Everyone seems to be missing the fact that it was a question not an attack. It was well played and spot on though. To all the people making the comments that Crockett started it I say this: since when is schooling an idiot, who is disrupting your meeting with irrelevant off topic grandstanding, an insult? MTG was harping on about something that was not on the agenda for that meeting. A fellow member held her to account for her time wasting, attention seeking comments which were based on absolutely no truth or evidence. I call that an attempt to bring the meeting to order especially since Comer wasn’t with it enough to manage things. It’s normal for the leadership of a meeting to corral people who are not staying on topic and are going down whatever rabbit holes take their fancy which would take time away from the subject of their meeting. MTG is well known for her rude disrespectful disruptive behavior during meetings. Many of her own party are sick to death of her behaviors (finally) . Crockett was in no way rude to her and Moscow Marg responded in an inflammatory way with an inappropriate personal attack that would have been beneath what would be expected of a high school student and yet Marg dropped to her typical level of maturity which is that of a poorly educated undisciplined 10 year old brat.

So Jasmine’s comment was NOT just because “MTG wouldn’t apologize”, as stated here. She asked the hypothetical question that included the “beach blonde” language because Comer refused to take MTG’s language down.
House rules state that if a member’s words are taken down (“stricken”), that member can’t speak for the rest of the hearing. If a member improperly “engages in personalities”, as MTG’s eyelash comment here clearly did, breaking proper decorum in the House, then that members words are supposed to be taken down, and they are supposed to be silenced for the rest of the hearing as punishment.
Comer refused to enforce that rule in this clear case of a violation by MTG, so Crockett asked a hypothetical (including the language that went viral), to query where the line WAS if the eyelash comment didn’t cross that line. It was a proper question and point by Crockett (it did include the clever snide backhand that went viral), but Crockett’s comment was more about the House’s rules not being applied by Comer, than due to something as minor as MTG “not apologizing”.
