Fitzgerald Lake Conservation Area (January 28 -- March 10, 2023)

Try to imagine going back in time: 300 years, 500 years...1,000 years. The people living at that time in the place we now call Northampton had a deep understanding and knowledge of the natural world. An important part of that was a familiarity with the ways of wildlife --behaviors, habitat preferences, seasonal changes. This familiarity is something that many of us living now are keenly interested in too. Spending as much time outdoors quietly observing is key...and what we can now learn from wildlife cameras is a big help too.
This longer-than-usual sequence (7 minutes) offers a glimpse into the lives of wildlife at one beaver dam over the course of 6 weeks in winter--day vs night, ice vs open water, solitary or in groups, one individual vs another.
