I arrived here through your wonderful interpretation of Summertime, and now I discover your Bach interpretation... How come you only have 15k views for such a video, when you deserve the millions? I usually never comment youtube videos, but I had to congratulate you for such a talent - and all the work that goes with it...!
Hi Alex, thank you very much for this nice comment..... since I am only a hobby musician, that really makes me proud... ...and maybe that is one reason, that I only have 15k views.... and another, that I also do play some jazz, pop and rock songs.... ;-))) but when I was searching for a good version of this masterpiece recorded by professionals - I could not find one, that was really close to Bach´s organ score... - so I had do my own transcription.... and I am happy that you like it.... many greetings from Germany Gerhard

There are no words for how good this is. This is the best transcription of Toccata & Fuge for guitar by far. I'm amazed how you can pull this off and make it look that easy.

Hi James, you are right..... I was absolutely happy, that I could follow Bach´s raised music and Ideas of that composition. Bravo!! I'm a big fan of the Maestro, over the years I've listened to many versions and interpretations of Both Toccata and Fuge. You just turned your guitar into a Bach Juicing machine, all the technical, essence, nuance, emotions.. extracted, and with your personal touch just made it such a wonderful piece to listen and was truly enjoyable. Thank You!!
You may be a hobby musician, but you're not "just" a hobby musician. I have been watching many of your videos and I must say I admire your playing. Especially now. I'm eager for your next song. Best regards!
Gerhard, This is simply not possible! transcribing a work of such majestic gravity to the most delicate tonal instrument, and making it a joy to hear whilst keeping the atmosphere.!! - Yet, you did it - I think Johann Sebastian is amongst your forefathers :-). Bravo!
Hi Peter, thank you very much for this really big compliment...... although I would be happy, if I only would have received 1/1000 of Bach´s music knowledge and feeling...... and it makes me happy each time, I only try to follow Bach´s melody and harmony with a solo transcription like that.... many greetings from Germany Gerhard
Just amazing. I have posted it to friends who play and everyone is amazed. I love not only your rendition of it, but your feeling. This is one of the most beautiful versions of this I have heard. Thank you for sharing your gift and hard work with us!
HI hello, thank you very much - yes, this was a lot of work, to bring this masterpiece to a one guitar arrangement.... - greetings from Germany - Gerhard
Splendid! Congratulations on the arrangement. I watched this video a few years ago and even though it's a 9-year-old video, it's still the best guitar adaptation of all time.
Hi William, thank you very much for this outstanding compliment for me - since I am just a hobby guitar player.... ;-))) that really is a big honour for me !!! Thanks a lot !! - greetings from Germany - Gerhard
I must admit, this is the first time I have heard this song done with a guitar. Awesome job, I have to check out more of your videos. You are very talented.

Excellant arrangement. I admire your courage to even attempt such an arrangement. It works very well. You should consider publishing it. It is a worthwhile contribution to the repertoire of concert classical guitar players.
Bravo! Can't believe what a good job you did of this on guitar! Thanks for sharing your passion with us this is really special. The transcription is amazing but what makes it work for me is your dedication to the feelings of the piece, that was most impressive. I found it very moving
Hi Gear tweaker, thank you very much for this special compliment .... it´s really an honoiur for me..... I hope you also enjoy some other pieces that I have on youtube.... Have a nice weekend - Gerhard
@@GerhardGschossmann oh don't worry I've seen lots of your stuff, so I was surprised I hadn't seen this one before. Again, great work, I dream that I will be able to play this someday. I used to dream that someday I could play Air on a G string and now I can 🙂 Thanks for your reply 😁
Hi Hitch´n Roll, thank you very much for this big compliment.... and thank God, that there is so much great music in all different kind of genres... greetings from Germany - Gerhard
Gerhard Gschossmann Greetings from Canada Gerhard.Just discovered you today through Al Owens site,Im always looking for excellent artists and masters that should be brought to the spot light but for some reason aren't.I plan to do a music video using your work hopefully you wont mind.I have used Al's and Clive's music for some videos that now is giving them more exposure here ...Be well and stay safe @ Yourserviceable
this was wonderful to watch a magnificent job. I am a guitarist myself and am trying to perform the pice but all the tabs I read are just the melody of the right hand and tapping it on the fret Bord ! I love this pice of music and if you have tabs for it it would be greatly appreciated!
Hi Thesardina, thank you very much for this compliment.... It was the same to me.... I could not find a transcription that really got into Bachs music and teh details he had composed in the Toccata and Fuge.... so I decided to make my own transcription. Playing only the melody without the beautiful and very special harmonies (not only the bass) misses what makes this piece so outstanding.... I am happy you see it the same way.... Hi Daniel, thank you very much for this compliment..... - and yes, the solo guitar version is very complicated.... I tried to be as close to Bach´s original organ as possible..... greetings from Germany - Gerhard
This really is an awesome peice, I love it, and this is such a good rendition. Especially for Guitar! I started learning it in Am, only the Toccata so far. There are so few guitarists who have made it as far as you have with this piece. Thanks for sharing it, cheers from N. America!
Treble Bass Hi Treble Bass, yes, I totally aggree with you.... Its also one of my absolute Bach fyvorites.... and there is a reason why also so many jazz and rock musicians do play Bachs music.... so, for me it is a great pleasure, to follow Bachs melodies and harmonies.... every time I play it.... many greetings from Germany to USA Gerhard
I've watched this several times, and I just can't find words to describe it. As a finger-style guitarist myself (moderately skilled) I'm awestruck that you managed this. Not only is it technically accurate and faithful to the original, but it also conveys the dark mood of the piece. OK... so maybe I can find the words after all.
Hi dotcom, these words sound very encouraging for me.... and I am really honoured by such big compliments...... thank you very much.... many greetings from Germany Gerhard
This is one of the most amazing things I have ever heard (or seen). I used to play this on piano but have never heard it transcribed to this degree for guitar. Quite an undertaking I am sure. Do you have plans to ever make your transcription for this piece available? I would love to have the tab (or notation) to spend the rest of my life working on....! Sandy
Hi Jonathan, yes, Bach composed a a lot of very beautiful pieces.... I have tried to convert some on a single guitar, some you find in my youtube channel, others on my homepage... many greetings to Brazil Gerhard
Hi Renspwn, thank you very much for your compliment... The guitar is built by "Albert & Mueller", two luthiers nearby Frankfurt. The make very good guitars, still afordable for handmade in Germany. Also my classical nylon guitar is a "Albert & Müller"... many greetings to Netherlands Gerhard
Can you be my teacher, I'm so fascinated whit your improve skills , you are a contemporany genius of the guitar, simply love the way you feel the music whit this severity, just amazing, love this song some day i can play at guitar too .... really, man you have magic in your fingers.
Hi Daniel, thank you very much for this kind compliment, that I should be your teacher.... Unfortunately it is not easy to teach over a distnace, since skype does not show all details of finger movements... Many greetings from Germany Gerhard
Hi Daniel, I recommend to take a teacher in your hometown, who can give you advice how to play and how have your fingers used for the several techniques... Gerhard
Hi Ian, yes that was a lot of work.... I had the original organ score (3 lines for right hand + left hand + feet !!) and it took me 8 full days to work out that transcription.... But everytime I play it, following Bach´s beautiful harmonies, it is worth every second of that work.... ;-)) many greetings from Germany Gerhard
Hi, yes, playing these 10 minutes for Bach´s Toccata and Fuge straight through and without any mistakes would be really great.... But I am just a hobby musician (born as a rock guitar player...;-)) ) with a normal fulltime job to do - so I am short in time for practice ....and Bach demands a lot of practice.... ;))) And I need a few days off of work to make those video recordings... .. what finally leads to cutting this piece for video to get it finished (this one and "Jesus" are cutted vidoes as discribed - all other of my vidoes are single, uncut recordings !!) But despite all this, I was not able to find another version on youtube that in my opinion was close enough to the original - so I made my own version... and I am happy that I found a way to play this raised and fantastic music of Bach on a guitar - and so being able to follow Bach´s harmonies and melodies... If you are a professional guitar player, I would be honoured if you would pick up my arrangement and bring it into the concert halls.... ??? many greetings from Stuttgart / Germany Gerhard
Hi, thanks for the compliment..... normally it works fine, playing steelstrings with my fingernails..... only if I try to play very loud - that scratches my nails down.... gg
Hi Alipius, merci beaucoup pour cette compliment... Yes, there is so much richness and elegnace in Bach´s music, and that´s why I try to play the melody line together with the harmony and bass line.... Sometimes I need month to find a way, how I can play that on guitar.... And yes, looking for "good music" - you will find it in classic, jazz, rock, etc. - you just need "open ears" to listen.... Thank you for your comment and your abo Many greetings to France Gerhard
Hey, thank you very much for this compliment - although I am far away of being a genius...... Yes, I have to take care about bringing my music on iTunes.. Many greetings Gerhard
I have little bit easier tab, but Yours is more precise than what i have. You are really good player. Fuge is too hard for me to playing properly, I only can play toccata. Respect man. Greetings
Hi, thank you very much.... Yes, I tried to get as close as possible to the original score of Bach to get the rich sounding harmonies together with the beautiful melody... Greetings from Germany - Gerhard
Did you use a standard tuning for your guitar or an open tuning? Hopefully I haven't butchered what little German I remember. Ihr Gitarrenspiel ist inspirierend für mich!
+Richard Eckert Hi Richard, sorry for the delay in answering.... yes, this is standard tuning with drop D, that means the low E string is tuned down to D, since the Toccata originally is in D minor. viele Grüße aus Stuttgart nach Amerika - Gerhard
Hi Beau, thank you very much.... I am only a hobby musician, and unfortunately I had classical lessons only as a child ( from 7 years old to about 12 years) , but not later on, to get really deep in playing classical guitar. So I like music from all kind of different styles - so I am playing a piece of Bach and maybe afterwards I play a rock´n roll song... there is so much good music out there.... many greetings from Germany Gerhard

Gerhard Gschossmann Give my regards to Germany. I lived and worked in Hannover for three and a half years from 1984 and thoroughly enjoyed it.
Hi Jorge,
thank you very much for your comment....
Many greetings to USA
Gerhard
I've watched this several times, and I just can't find words to describe it. As a finger-style guitarist myself (moderately skilled) I'm awestruck that you managed this. Not only is it technically accurate and faithful to the original, but it also conveys the dark mood of the piece. OK... so maybe I can find the words after all.
Hi dotcom,
these words sound very encouraging for me.... and I am really honoured by such big compliments...... thank you very much....
many greetings from Germany
Gerhard
This is one of the most amazing things I have ever heard (or seen). I used to play this on piano but have never heard it transcribed to this degree for guitar. Quite an undertaking I am sure. Do you have plans to ever make your transcription for this piece available? I would love to have the tab (or notation) to spend the rest of my life working on....!
Sandy
Hi Jonathan,
yes, Bach composed a a lot of very beautiful pieces.... I have tried to convert some on a single guitar, some you find in my youtube channel, others on my homepage...
many greetings to Brazil
Gerhard
great mannnn...
Hi Senssuiy,
thank you very much....
Gerhard
Hi Renspwn,
thank you very much for your compliment...
The guitar is built by "Albert & Mueller", two luthiers nearby Frankfurt.
The make very good guitars, still afordable for handmade in Germany.
Also my classical nylon guitar is a "Albert & Müller"...

Can you be my teacher, I'm so fascinated whit your improve skills , you are a contemporany genius of the guitar, simply love the way you feel the music whit this severity, just amazing, love this song some day i can play at guitar too .... really, man you have magic in your fingers.
Hi Daniel,
thank you very much for this kind compliment, that I should be your teacher....
Unfortunately it is not easy to teach over a distnace, since skype does not show all details of finger movements...
Many greetings from Germany
Gerhard
Sure? Can you be my teacher?... don't give me false hopes .... im so excited about finding you on youtube you are really amazing.
Hi Daniel,
I recommend to take a teacher in your hometown, who can give you advice how to play and how have your fingers used for the several techniques...
Gerhard
Hi Roodneck,
thanks a lot....
Gerhard
Incredible! The fuge especially sounds like it could have been written for guitar. How long did it take you to learn to play this?
Hi Ian,
yes that was a lot of work.... I had the original organ score (3 lines for right hand + left hand + feet !!) and it took me 8 full days to work out that transcription....
But everytime I play it, following Bach´s beautiful harmonies, it is worth every second of that work.... ;-))
many greetings from Germany
Gerhard
4:33 and 7:31 maestro tired...) How about non stop playng Toccata and Fuga?
Great work!
Hi,
yes, playing these 10 minutes for Bach´s Toccata and Fuge straight through and without any mistakes would be really great.... But I am just a hobby musician (born as a rock guitar player...;-)) ) with a normal fulltime job to do - so I am short in time for practice ....and Bach demands a lot of practice.... ;))) And I need a few days off of work to make those video recordings... .. what finally leads to cutting this piece for video to get it finished (this one and "Jesus" are cutted vidoes as discribed - all other of my vidoes are single, uncut recordings !!)
But despite all this, I was not able to find another version on youtube that in my opinion was close enough to the original - so I made my own version... and I am happy that I found a way to play this raised and fantastic music of Bach on a guitar - and so being able to follow Bach´s harmonies and melodies...
If you are a professional guitar player, I would be honoured if you would pick up my arrangement and bring it into the concert halls.... ???
many greetings from Stuttgart / Germany
Gerhard
Awesome playing, but how are you able to maintain nails on steelstring?
Hi,
thanks for the compliment..... normally it works fine, playing steelstrings with my fingernails..... only if I try to play very loud - that scratches my nails down....
gg
You deserve more views.
Hi Rafael,
thank you very much.... maybe with some time, I will get more clicks ??? - greetings from Germany - Gerhard
Hi Alipius,
merci beaucoup pour cette compliment...
Thank you for your comment and your abo
Many greetings to France
Gerhard
Hi,
yes, I´ll try.....

This must be happiness
Hi Marc,
yes, playing this outstandig masterwork from Bach makes one really feel special....
greetings from Germany - Gerhard
Hey, thank you very much for this compliment - although I am far away of being a genius......
Yes, I have to take care about bringing my music on iTunes..
Many greetings
Gerhard
I have little bit easier tab, but Yours is more precise than what i have. You are really good player. Fuge is too hard for me to playing properly, I only can play toccata. Respect man. Greetings
Hi,
thank you very much.... Yes, I tried to get as close as possible to the original score of Bach to get the rich sounding harmonies together with the beautiful melody...
Greetings from Germany - Gerhard
Sehr schön. Darf ich mal fragen, wo Sie in Deutschland wohnen?
Hi Matthew,
Gerhard
Hallo von Amerika! Did you use a standard tuning for your guitar or an open tuning?
Hopefully I haven't butchered what little German I remember. Ihr Gitarrenspiel ist inspirierend für mich!
+Richard Eckert
Hi Richard,
sorry for the delay in answering.... yes, this is standard tuning with drop D, that means the low E string is tuned down to D, since the Toccata originally is in D minor.
viele Grüße aus Stuttgart nach Amerika - Gerhard
Beautifully played. Are you classically trained?
Hi Beau,
thank you very much.... I am only a hobby musician, and unfortunately I had classical lessons only as a child ( from 7 years old to about 12 years) , but not later on, to get really deep in playing classical guitar. So I like music from all kind of different styles - so I am playing a piece of Bach and maybe afterwards I play a rock´n roll song... there is so much good music out there....
many greetings from Germany
