Poles in 2 years has made 1 hell of a roster. This is the first year he is free of Ryan pace dead cap. Next season we will have almost 0 dead cap and a ton of cap space thanks to poles. He cleaned it up in 3 seasons and said give him 3 to 5 years to get the team where it should be. He on track. He killing it.
Poles is doing a great job and a lot left to do! It will be interesting to watch how he does this. Looks like all three first round picks are studs and will be cornerstones for a decade or more fingers crossed. I had an idea for videos when the season is done and news is slow. You should look back on evaluations of players you have done and see how they are performing in the league happy thanksgiving to all and 🐻🔽
How do I feel about how cold is done so far? I still think we should erect a statue of this man. He has done more for this cursed franchise than any GM has since the 80s. We knew we weren't going to have the best season. But yet people are still freaking out that we're having a not great season. This kind of stuff takes time and people lose patience really quickly
Ryan Poles is not the problem. He is going to build this team into aSuper bowl contender. I can’t wait to see who replaces Eberflus and who gets drafted next.
Swifty - I found Belichick‘s reaction and comments to be more of a disagreement to the statement that the lions and bears are built the same. I speaking to his comments on Inside the NFL. I know you were pointing out that Brad Holmes did not invest anymore in the o line than did Poles. The obvious problem is Ryan poles did not inherit as much offensive line talent as did Brad Holmes. With that said, Ryan poles had and has a higher obligation to improve upon the bears offensive line as compared to Brad Holmes with the lions. The sobering reality is Poles has not done enough to secure talent within the trenches; on both sides of the ball. He is being fairly judged by his actions.
100% agree. Poles got an entire new linebacker core after Pace overpaid for Smith and Mack. He did the same for our secondary and D line. We had 0 WR’s 1s. No QB, and rebuilt our Oline. We still need upgrades on both trenches, but how soon people forget how abismal our roster was that first year under Poles. We basically had practice squad caliber players as our starters. We owe Justin Fields, we owe Ryan Poles, and we owe ourselves as bear fans faith that our break is coming, especially if we find a HC who is passionate about winning. We’re set up for the future, but the media gave us too much hype this year, and we had a bad OC and a HC who makes poor decisions. Here’s to our bright future!! We’re on the rise, and I know we can and will dominate the NFC in CWs mature years, with several playoff wins before then.
Our issue is and has been the selection of a HC. We either keep taking rookie HCs or those just looking to retire! If you want a promising HC, fine but make sure he is an offensively smart and tough taskmaster or an experienced smart dude who displays ability to be the CEO of the field and the game situations.
Great take. I’m sure he would have preferred to build the trenches first. But the bears rarely have the capacity to do things well. And that’s 50 years a fan talking. ⬇️🐻
I mean, he did kinda build it backwards, but that's how the (talent) market fell. You can choose a edge before Rome, but then you're still facing the problem that you still need that. You can take the haul and roll with Fields, but then you still need a QB. We have the resources to fix the lines next year, and if that fails, then I'm out on Poles, but not before.
So, Brad Holmes drafted for the line according to their needs? Yeah, you build your line to make sure it’s solid first. The line was solid, enough, then looked at weapons. Chicago drafted and traded like a teen playing madden- “And then I’d put Caleb Williams at quarterback, and 3 awesome wide receivers and a tight end and a running back.” Then when the need for lineman was highlighted, all the CW hype took over, “Win the conference, playoff appearance, 55 touchdowns, 4000 yards”. Bears keep doing it to themselves, and I feel bad for them, Because when a Bill Belichick, or any other experienced coach, makes a comment, they refuse to admit anything. “Look at the Roster he built” Good luck keeping them meshing while they lose and get frustrated. If that was part of the plan, building weapons first without protection for your rookie, the plan failed and you’ll get guys wanting trades or flaking out on plays. “But he’s just a rookie” Not even close to what people were saying when they made hype videos with the old Bulls music, an insult if you ask me, before he even takes an NFL snap and letting him believe his own hype. Having said that, the only thing that won me over about CW is his ability to handle the failure. Chicago is a brutal place for athletes to not do well with that fan base. I expected him to fold mentally, but has kept his composure and maturity. Good luck, Bears fans. If this organization doesn’t own their mistakes, it’ll be more of the same. 🐻 ⬇️
I don't believe Poles is the problem when we're talking about building the team and getting better talent on the roster. However, when it comes to getting the proper coaching for this team, right now, he is definitely the problem. We have major coaching/leadership problems ... problems that include our OLine not being properly prepared to play several games this year ... including the Texans, Cardinals, and Patriots. Yes, we've had injuries and had to shuffle guys around way more than I would have liked, but other teams manage to deal with these situations and gameplan around who's out on the field and what they can and can't do. We continue to struggle with that basic concept ... and have for years. THAT is a coaching and leadership issue. So until we get a new Head Coach who can address those problems, for me, Poles is the problem.
That’s all double BB is saying, you need a good offensive line to succeed, the lions have it and the bears don’t. Poles didn’t inherit 3 good offensive lineman like Holmes had so we should’ve invested more in the O-line. It’s hard to disagree with one of the greatest coaches.
If you care about having both Caleb and Rome, then no offensive lineman could have been selected before this year because any offensive line help may have added just one win per season and ruined the chance to get either one of those guys that this is what it is this is draft, however is a different story That punter could’ve been you know a middle of the pack center or guard
The good outweighs the bad for me. The things he did wrong: Only a 6th for Fields....should have opened up for trades immediately. Should have helped us move up in the draft. I know he did not want to tip his hand, but this was a debacle. Chase Claypool....gave up a 2nd to get him. Gave up a 7th to get rid of him to get a 6th. Kept Eberflus...... I know it is debatable that he actually hired Flus. I'm more in the camp that he felt pressured to from the McCaskey Selection Committee. But keeping him and not even picking up the phone for Harbaugh was criminal. Velus.....was a swing and a miss. I really don't care. I'm neutral on that one. My biggest beef with Poles is.....Trading away 2nds for players and doing nothing to get back into the 2nd round each and every draft.....I'm all for getting Montez Sweat, but I would have gladly traded #75 (where we got Amegadjie) and a 2025 2nd (maybe two future 3rds) for a shot at JPJ or Frazier. The year before was just as frustrating, getting Dexter and Pickens back-to-back. Happy to have Dexter, and Pickens sucks. Should have traded back up. What he did right: The Panthers Trade....one of the best in NFL History Cleaned house after Ryan Pace trashed it. Fixed our draft capital (for the most part) and salary cap issues. (Much bigger job than one sentence gives credit for). Picked up Montez Sweat.....not aging well this season just yet, but solid overall. It turned our defense from one of the worst to one of the best. Drafted Caleb and Rome.....not sorry for this one bit. Still pumped, and I do think it will age well. Even though there is not really an all-star on the O-line, there are enough pieces for a decent starting 5, which he had to build with scraps from the Ryan Pace damage .
poles is a great talent evaluator, but it seems he has no idea how to pick coaches. Hopefully, he can find a special advisor to help with the next head coach search
Ryan Poles makes good contracts and is fiscal responsibile. That's where my positive vibes end. His job is to make Chicago great again NOT PITTSBURGH! How hard can it be to draft a punt returner that can catch punts? I'll always respect Bill's opinions. His Patriots were always competitive played smart hard and were well condioned. Poles drafts stupid jocks snd late round linemen that aren't ready for camp. The Commanders look like a better rebuilt team right now.
Poles has 3 mistakes, claypool - terrible, nate Davis - understandable, not getting that vet center coming off injury last offseason- swing and miss on Bates instead. Should have got more for Fields and traded Velus in off-season. Overall I give a B, which is 2 letter grades better than last 2 GMs
Two years to build a oline and cant just keep drafting 5-6th round guys to start. You only hit on 3/5 drafted starting level olineman if you draft them all in the top 4 rounds. So its gonna take two years via the draft. This team is fools gold.. All the talent at the skill positions cant mask the problems with the oline. Oline is the frame of the offense, shaky frames means your building on sand.. you cant install a shiny gold door, but if the house cant support it and collapses, you have wasted your $$.. Poles has until he has to pay Caleb to fix the Oline via the draft and he better get to it. First STOP rostering Oline/Dline players that refuse to Bench at the Combine, just full stop on that nonsense. He can draft a Center high by game 9 he should be average to good.. Draft Guards high and by game 9 they should be average or they will need 3 years to build up the strength to be average (we have seen this 4 times in the last 7 years). He could draft a LT high and wait two years for him to be average to good, but he already drafted the Ivy league kid, and Like I said when they picked him, he will compete in 2025 and not before (ppl still dont believe me when I say that when you draft a good+ college LT your drafting him to look good in 2 years). Or break the bank in free agency.. but good Guards dont want to play next to sorry centers unless they have just gotten the bag. Bad Centers make Guards look bad period. Tevin is not coming back, so every one that is starting right now, less #58 ( and even he looks like a 2nd stringer lately), is a 2nd string player period..
Poles has been awful. His big accomplishment was finding a sucker to trade with. His picks have been average at best. Caleb was a squandered opportunity.
Maybe he's not. Everyone is entitled to an option, right? Like you being able to cry because you don't like swifts. Like me crying because you don't like Swifts 😂

Welp, there you go again, gettin it right!! There are fans, and then there is Swift, a fanatic! Me too. Bear Down!!
This Off Season we need Hog Mollies on O-n D Line. and better Depth all around. This Team isn't close talent wise yet. Help wanted LoL.
Great evaluation Swifty!
Swift is way too deferential to Poles.
He likes him way more than he should, which clouds his judgement.
Poles is doing a great job and a lot left to do! It will be interesting to watch how he does this. Swifty are GM came into the job no one our officer line was messed up he is not being aggressive enough to fix the problem

Great stuff brother
Totally agree with.
I trust him more with building the roster than finding a coach. The faith in Eberflus baffles me.
Tev on a reasonable extension, S, C, G, edge and true NT. Those are my hopes for the offseason.. it’s a lot

JPJ or Zach Frazier instead of Rome at #9 looks like the better decision more and more everyday.

You can't fix everything that was broke in two years so just have patience people Poles is doing it rite
poles is a great talent evaluator, but it seems he has no idea how to pick coaches. Hopefully, he can find a special advisor to help with the next head coach search
KING POLES
How did James Daniels end up? He was a 2nd round pick that could have helped. Why did Poles let him go?
I'm sticking with Poles, I can take a few misses as long as he gives us some hits and he has been...
Flus fired this year poles gets one more year and then gone if things don't improve
King Poles ! We have a good team. They need better coaches.
🤣🤣🤣🤣 @ signed 135 yr old guard.
I know what it's supposed to say but how it look 😂
Mr. Poles has attempted to make the teams better, Eberflus is the problem.

He has gotten a bunch of back ups starting on the line he isn't paying attention to the line that much

I give Poles a D-. If he fires Flus on Friday I change his grade to c-.
Former OL Ryan Poles has not improved the OL at all especially for a team with the #1 draft pick QB. That's football malpractice

Poles is messing up big time. He better get 25 draft right or he should be fired. This has to be the year he addresses the trenches.
Poles needs to draft 3 lineman in the first 3 picks. 2 OL and 1 DL
