    After 6 months or so of now owning an RX10 iv I came back to this video to review tips for shooting wildlife, which is mostly what I do. The toggle focus area is an awesome tip that lazy me would probably have never got around to, although it has been annoying the hell out of me having to switch between tracking and centre for ages by selecting from a list each time. Thanks for posting.

    I'd love to get one of these, but I can't get away from how many times I'm fully using the 65x optical zoom of my Canon SX70, even 130x (2x digital) sometimes in order to photograph distant birds. I have cormorants way across a stretch of estuary that are unable to be approached any nearer, and no end of flighty birds that just wont let me get anywhere near close enough with my wife's 25x zoom. Still I can get shots, and can compose them on the fly, without needing to conceal myself in a hide, or put up feeders in the garden, and I'm finding this a real benefit. I know the Sony is an amazing camera, and would love to talk myself into getting one - love the super fast focusing, high shutter speeds, iso range and the better performance. I think some people would be surprised at just how good photographs can be nowadays with even the lesser cameras though, and I'll watch your channel and see what can be done cropping 25x max (can you do a video on this?) before I give in and finally melt my credit card ;)

      thats cool. i now use the adobe enhance raw which magically makes a 20mp image 80mp so i can crop in loads later on and its incredible with no loss of detail it seems.

    As a birder who mainly shoots at outdoor settings not backyard garden kind of things, I am comparing this Sony camera with the Nikon p950, I watched a lot of videos about both, the Sony machine is absolutely more powerful, bigger sensor, super fast shutter speed, but eventually I sensed it may not be the one for me, the 600 mm zoom is just not good enough. For photography perspective it is great, but for birdwatching and identification, I think I have to choose the Nikon Coolpix P950. The P1000 is simply not practical since i mostly hold by hand with no tripod. 600mm definitely not enough zoom, though everything else is awesome for this Sony camera, if money is not a problem, of course you can have both.

    • @sjm.photos
      @sjm.photos  2 года назад +3

      On the rx10iv you have also 1200mm clearimage zoom that works well in jpeg. Also 2400mm digital zoom which also works well just so you know. Image quality wise the rx10iv is miles better than the nikons but as you say real world 600mm but f4 is so good for lower light and crap light days

    • @Peteryzhang
      @Peteryzhang 2 года назад +1

      @@sjm.photos have to try in real time to know , Nikon bridge cameras may not be as good as the Sony RX ones, but currently on my situation I am using Nikon Coolpix B600, it has 24-1440mm 60X zoom and I already mostly shoot more than 1000mm, it got digital zoom too but it is almost useless. Anyway a P950 should be a real upgrade for me. The Sony RX10M4 if the bird is close enough, it is definitely a better option, but you go out see birds mostly with a all in one machine, it can be very far away and you want to know what kind of birds they are, sometimes I simply use it as a binacular, even without taking photos.

    • @sjm.photos
      @sjm.photos  2 года назад +2

      yep we all have our own preferences for what we need. hope it works out for you. only issue i find is now especially as its warming up. heat distortion in the air so getting sharp images of birds sometimes more than 50 metres away is hard due to that.

    I am thinking of investing in one of these as I mainly take photos of moving Dogs at shows how does it compare to say an old Sony A77 mkii for quality and speed as this is what I currently use. I have a faulty image stabilisation issue on my camera so this is one of the reasons I’m thinking of getting an all in one to take with me.

    thanks for making this set of rx10m4 videos. i found them most useful. i have a Lumix FZ2000, which is a similar 1" bridge camera and because of your videos i have just bought an RX10m4. the autofocus is the big difference between the two matched cameras. 319 points vs 49 points. i found the fz2000 struggled to focus on fast or close objects, birds and butterflies. the RX10 is better. twice the price though. and your custom button setting tips have helped me set the camera up. thanks. 🥰

    • @sjm.photos
      @sjm.photos  3 года назад +2

      thanks for watching. the Lumix Fz2000 is a good camera but when the Rx10iv originally was over £1000 more expensive than the lumix it really cant compete against the sony. for speed and the lens on the rx10iv is so sharp and quick. glad i could have helped.

    • @guyhanoi8561
      @guyhanoi8561 2 года назад

      Great comment. I own the FZ1000 (very similar to the 2000) and I am really debating what should be my next upgrade (which I must do since the FZ1000 became too unreliable due to its age and its sensitivity to humidity). I am debating between the RX10iv and the A6400 (APS-C). The later will surely give me better image quality, but the hassle of changing lenses really bothers me. Can you share your thought process why you got the RX10iv and not a higher grade mirrorless, and what kind of a photographer are u? amateur? Enthusiast? Pro? Thanx.

    Still trying to find the best options for shooting flying birds. I`ve tried some of you suggestions which I got from some of your previous videos. Thanks for them. Haven`t really managed to get the perfect shot yet. However, I am not shooting every day, not efvefn every month so maybe it is just a question of skills. Learning by doing. I`ve had the RX10-M4 now for some three yrs, absolutely the best camera I´ve ever had as the amateur I am. I bought it seomewhat used, but from a camerashop anyhow. Hi I have been using the A7R4 with the 200 -600 lens for wildlife, but having just bought a new puppy 😂thought it would be good to try something that would enable me to walk pup and maybe get some bird photos at the same time. I sold my 70 to 200 Sony lens and bought this camera. Some of the images I have seen are amazing. However, having bought it in December, the darkest month of the year, I am finding it difficult to get usable action shots of birds without excessive noise or blurry wings. Have you had the same problem?

    • @sjm.photos
      @sjm.photos  2 года назад

      the A7riv due to the megapixels you need to be up at the 1/3200 upwards for sharp action but the Rx10iv if wide open 1/2000s is normally fine upwards. the stabilisation does take about 1 second to spin up though so sometimes if its a quick point and shoot the shot gets taken before the stabilisation has engaged fully. i shoot with it in AFC and wide for action mostly.
