    Hello, greetings from Bolivia, I have a 30W s6, I would like to engrave on stainless steel, do I need to paint it, paint it beforehand?

    • @JTMakesIt
      @JTMakesIt  Год назад

      Yes make the surface black before engraving(spray paint or black marker..). And then use full power and go very slowly. S6 is a bit weak for stainless steel, but it could work. Some people also use mustard and there also exist dedicated laser spray paints for stainless but they cost a lot

      MDF is difficult to cut and the results heavily depend on the type of MDF you have. Not all MDF can be cut well.

    Thanks for the great and realistic video's. I'm thinking about buying a sculpfun s9 but during your video's I was wondering what kind of material it is you have underneath cutted material to avoid damaging your table/workbench/stand?

      Thanks! I use regular 2mm thick mild steel plate so I can straighten the warped wood by fixing it to the plate using magnets. Stainless would be even better, but it is not magnetic.

    You mean „decreasing the speed by a divisor of 2 and not „factor“, which in your case would increase the speed.

    • @JTMakesIt
      @JTMakesIt  3 года назад

      It depends on what kind of metal and what do you want to engrave on it. Anodized aluminum ia not a problem, the Pro version should be able to engrave stainless steel if you spray it black first, but I haven't tried yet

    Great video. I saw you were able to cut black acrylic, what about clear acrylic? And what is the max thickness for cutting acrylic? I'm interested in using this to make woodworking templates. Also, do you know what the upkeep is on this? How frequently do you have to replace parts and what is the cost of that?

    • @JTMakesIt
      @JTMakesIt  3 года назад +1

      Thanks for watching. With this machine I have cut 3 and 5mm black acrylic. The lighter color of the acrylic, the more difficult to cut. For example yellow one takes approximately twice as many passes to cut. You can't cut transparent, blue and white (it reflects all the laser light which is blue color). But you can engrave it by spraying it with a black paint first. Check the other video of the Sculpfun S6 pro review where I have engraved transparent acrylic by painting it black.
      The machine should laser a long time. I have only about 50 cutting hours on it (mostly on 100% power and I don't see any degradation of output power or the parts wearing out. If anything would wear out, I think it would be easy to find the replacement parts on Banggod and Aliexpress as these machines(sculpfun, Ortur, Atomstack,..) are very similar in construction.

    • @petertraversone689
      @petertraversone689 3 года назад

      @@JTMakesIt fantastic thanks! I actually just saw on their site that someone answered a question about cutting dark acrylic, and they say the max is 8mm, so that's good for me who would probably use 1/4" acrylic for templates.

    • @JTMakesIt
      @JTMakesIt  3 года назад

      @@petertraversone689 1/4" should also be possible to cut, but it would take even more passes. But if you haven't bought the machine yet, you should check the review of the Sculpfun S9 I have just posted. That one should be more capable to cut thicker stuff more quickly.

      @@JTMakesIt I am currently working my way down the rabbit hole of your videos 😂. The S9 is the one I just watched and think I'm leaning towards since it can cut thicker material and has a finer laser. I stumbled upon this laser and then your videos and you've been a ton of help! Would you say the S9 is the best in its class? I'm looking to spend probably $300-$500 max and use it for template cutting and custom engravings/branding onto wood.
