Anyone else notice that Roddy and Rita are complete opposites of each other in terms of status. Rita and her family are poor but happy. Roddy is what we could consider rich and well off but he has no family. He’s alone.
For context it’s stated earlier in the movie that the father tried to retrieve a fabled ruby, but in doing so he, and I quote his daughter: “broke every bone in his body trying to get that ruby” only for the daughter to find out by Roddy that it was fake by demonstrating how easily he was able to break the ruby whereas a real ruby would’ve been much harder to break. Roddy offers her real jewels if she can help him return to his home on the surface, hence how they both ended up here.

I just now realized the house keeps rocking to the side where the biggest sibling skating on. I always thought it kept on rocking because the house was on water and it was too unstable.
Rita Malone (simply known as "Rita") is the deuteragonist in the DreamWorks film, Flushed Away. She is a strong, confident, sardonic, brave, and short-tempered mouse, who comes from a large family (called the Malones) Her mother, father, grandmother, and appears to be the oldest of 36 brothers and sisters. She is the complete opposite of Roddy: Rita is a poor yet tough-as-nails sewer rat barely making ends meet in her efforts to support her large family, while also avoiding the clutches of the Toad.
0:220:381:061:261:582:192:26 Like it when Roddy meets Rita’s family especially her saying that he is not coming in but the next scene he is shown inside with everyone, Rita annoyingly saying that Roddy is not her boyfriend, and when the father angrily says that they don’t need the money, but then breaks part of the floor and the stove falls down and a cockroach says “a new stove might be nice.” 😄😄😄
Rita is honestly one of my favourite "girlboss" characters; starts off as self-centered, untrustworthy and rough around the edges, but we soon realize it's only because she's trying to provide for her family. And even though she's competent, she's still not an invincible badass, which further emphasizes how she often puts herself at risk. Also, Kate Winslet.
It's odd because on the inside, the house looks rather nice. The literal only problem with it is that it rocks from side to side, and there has to be someone awake to keep it upright 24/7. Lucky enough, then that the family is so big.
