- Sky News host Rita Panahi says after "causing a huge increase in energy costs with his green policies", US President Joe Biden has implored "mum-and-dad business owners who run the majority of gas stations" to lower their prices.
Ms Panahi said when he's not "blaming" mum-and-dad business owners, the President is "blaming the oil and gas companies" he said he wanted to shut down.
"Now he wants them to increase refining capacity.
"Except the President did shut down fields and continues to do so. As Michael Shellenberger pointed out, Biden killed a refinery on May 14 and killed a one million acre oil & gas lease in Alaska on May 12."

I think managers have done what managers do in the US, they save on infrastructure maintenance and security for employees and customers. and when nothing works anymore, they run to the state, which should free up taxpayers' money to bring the infrastructure back up to date. That's how it goes in the US, capitalism for the worker, socialism for the super rich and the corporations.

They have also lost quite a bit of total capacity from their prior levels due to Biden's cancelations of several domestic drilling leases in the western US, and his ban on new drilling leases on federal land. The federal government has stolen some 60% of state lands in the western states, large swaths of which SCOTUS ruled decades ago that the feds had to return to the states, but the federal government just hasn't bothered to do so. This allows the federal government to control where & when drilling for oil can occur, which is a means of interfering in the market & artificially creating shortages. This isn't the first time that they've done this either.

Just a reminder the Keystone pipeline isn’t American oil for American pumps. It’s a pass through pipeline for Canadian oil to the shipping ports. Anyhow, supply and demand are still controlling the price at the pump. Mom and pop gas stations can’t overcharge and still sell anything.

An economics professor once told me that if when gas prices rise you say the oil companies are being greedy, then when oil prices fall you must in turn say that they are being generous, but neither is accurate. Gas and oil prices follow the rule of supply and demand. Gas station owners get a small cut, but there's no way they could remain in business by charging less than the current rate. The idea that the POTUS would make a public statement like this is right out of Ideocracy.

I worked at a Truck stop for 10 years. The money was never made on fuel, it's made in sales of convenience items. If a gas bar is contracted to buy fuel from a specific company the price is set by head office. These gas stations hire, pay wages and support their community.
I also knew this having had a friend who owned one. This is why it's important to never vote for a liberal. They literally have no clue how anything works. And Joe Biden believes he is a dictator. He actually expects people to do what he says.
I was going to make a similar reply. I've worked at Convenience stores since 2012. We only made a few cents per gallon. It was the soda and energy bars/drinks that were most profitable.
