you might enjoy this track better: "The Day they Pulled the North Pole Down" is a dub experiment by Andy Partridge, based on the track "Heatwave" by Colin Moulding. It appeared on Andy's 1980 dub LP Take Away / The Lure of Salvage, later on the 1990 collection Explode Together: The Dub Experiments 78-80.

This is the B side of the Mutt Lange produced version of the "This Is Pop" single release isn't it?. Both songs sound amazing, they should have had him produce Go 2, then it might not have been the XTC album that most fans hate. John Leckie was perfect for The Dukes and The Stone Roses, but not a great choice for the energetic Powerpop of the first 2 XTC albums.
Ashley, my use of the word "hate" was, on reflection, the wrong choice of word to describe ANY of XTC's albums, so apologies for that. I think "least favourite" is a more apt description. I just think that although there were some fantastic songs, it's just not as fantastic as every other XTC album, and I think the production wasn't as good as it could have been. There was a bootleg doing the rounds at the time which contained a load of songs that were actually REJECTED by Virgin, so they had to go away and come up with something "better", which turned out to be Go 2. There were more Barry Andrews songs on the bootleg, which I'm sure have been released on various CD formats since. But yeah... Go 2 is still a solid album. :)
@@jonathanbicknell8435 Oh, no harm done. I just see this appear on the bottom of "XTC best to worst" lists quite often these days, and I always find it puzzling. For the longest time, Mummer was the one almost universally disliked. Go 2 may be a bit murkier in production than it could have been, but I love the punkish reckless abandon of the thing. It's definitely the record I've played most often.

great tune these guys were so unlucky that there was so much talent around in the late 70s early 80s they should be millionaires by now
The record companies hosed them. Big time!
Do you think they are happy in their lives now?
Andy had a fear of touring. Merch etc is where the money is. Aside from songwriting credit.
Split Enz would be proud of them.
I’m getting some Elvis Costello vibes from this track. Anyone else? Anyways, great little hidden gem. Especially since it is a Colin song.
Brilliant, never seen this before. Thanks.
This Is Magic...
It's like 102 degrees in the middle of Fall, WE'RE HEADED TOWARDS A HEATWAVE.
At times i think the later stuff is my favorite. And then i go back and listen to the early stuff. Week to week it changes. Maybe i have a fever.
Your XTC degree flipflops are caused by common conditions of post rock pop genius.

Go 2 is my favorite XTC album. I don't understand the near-universal dislike of it.

Sometimes it's my favorite... Depends on my mood.
this could have been a hit single and didn't even make the albu
Haha. This could NEVER have been a hit single... even in the most adventurous musical soul's imagination ;)
