I have learned so much from your channel. I have watched all of your videos at least twice. I never knew about invasive plants and now I realize that my property is loaded with them. I’m working on removing them using your methods. Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge!
I have acres of Japanese Stiltgrass that I inherited when I bought my property. It's sad how ignorance leads to such drastic changes in our environment and that people are oblivious to how their actions (or lack of) affect others. This is the type of thing that should be taught in our school system so that we develop a society that understands nature a little better. What I've noticed is that many more people in suburban and urban areas are just ignorant about invasives and how their choices affect habitats far beyond their vicinity. Those are the people that need the education since they typically don't grow up with as much exposure to nature as those in rural environments. Just my observation as someone who grew up in the suburbs and then moved to rural areas as an adult.
Very good points! The further removed we are from "nature", the less we understand how everything is interconnected. Too often the only experience with "nature" people have in an urban, or even suburban setting is the non-native weeds and plantings their surrounded with.
Have you performed any trials to determine at what date in autumn the developing stiltgrass seeds are viable? Up the a certain point, pulled stiltgrass is not only not coming back from root fragments, It can be piled anywhere with impunity.
How far should I stay away from water if using Acclaim Extra? I've a couple of wooded acres on a fairly steep slope. A wet weather creek is at the bottom. Stiltgrass is all through the woods all the way to the creek bank. I can wait until the dry summer to use glyphosate down there, but I'd like to avoid the glyphosate induced stress as much as possible. I've also toyed with the idea of getting a Chip Drop and just smothering large portions, especially in an area where I'd like to establish some wildflowers. Seems like 6" of chips would smother the seeds and when it composts, give me a fertile medium to spread the seed.
Thanks for an informative video. I just finished a stilt grass spraying project at the first week of October. Plan to go with .1% GLY next year. Maybe experiment with .05%
We have used 2% to 5% glyphosate during the past two stiltgrass removal seasons here in NC with mixed results. We noticed that using Liquid Harvest brand surfactant, the solution just drips off the leaves and we don't get good kill off. Can you recommend a good surfactant? BTW, we've been in this fight for over 10 years ( 50 + acres ) and only 2 years ago started with herbicide. Before that we used aggressive weed whipping. Would never be able to handle this problem without herbicide.
Good stuff, I'm in your situation in SE PA. Woodland with Japanese stiltgrass. Any suggestions for replacing the stiltgrass with another grass like plant? The deer love to hang out in it and we love watching them from our house.

Thanks for the encouragement and the work you are putting into your property!

Yes! This is important information that should be taught in schools. The lack of awareness by most homeowners is a real problem.
Amazing channel and video
Thank you!
This is great news! We will be trying this down here in Tennessee. (Where stiltgrass got its American start, it seems.)
We won't hold it against you (unless it was your order of Japanese dishware that started it all!). Let me know how control works for you.

0.1% seemed to knock out 100% of the stilt grass, so trying 0.05% seems like a good idea to try.

We have a lot of native grasses in our woods, but the one that grows as a "stand" of grass is American Beak Grass (Diarrhena americana).
Glyphosate ?? Evil.
