We stayed in this home the first 7 days of October 2021. Fantastic property! At the start of the video, I was thinking 'I've been there' then I started telling my wife "fthese are the same channels we went in and out of in Marathon this Fall". When you finally stopped at the home I couldn't believe it! Caught this critter off the dock

Hi guys I love your channel. My husband and I are from Chattanooga Tn and come to the keys about 3 or 4 times a year. September will be trip number 4 this year but I would love to meet you guys and see if you could offer any advice to help us get started with a home there. I love the keys. We always stay in Islamorada
Thanks for another great video guys. Looks like a great home to rent or own. For owners, what are the rules for trimming the mangroves between the house and canal.
There are some very specific rules....heck we are still trying to learn ourselves. In general you have to get a permit from the county and then there are specific lengths you can trim back. Wish I had more info, but it seems different areas have slightly different situations. For instance our neighborhood has a blanket permit for the homeowners to trim the mangroves based on guidelines the county set forth.

Thanks for the info. We have been towing my bay boat down from NC to Marathon at least once a year for canal house rental in Sombrero beach area. The house I was renting is no longer available and I have been looking at other canal house options for 2022.

Beautiful home for a larger family or a group of friends. I am completely happy in a little closet space when I vacation. I feel all cozy and secure. Did I tell you that I was able to book another Southern Caribbean cruise? If so, just stop reading now so I do not bore you with telling you again. It has taken a bit to do this since my AAA Travel Agent retired, but I got hold of another office and they checked on the exact 12-night cruise in April and found that there were only two cabins left. Since 6 of those days are going to be at sea, I really wanted a balcony stateroom. All that was left was one ocean view and one junior suite. Since I feel this will be my last big vacation, guess what I chose..................YEP! I will be in the suite. The junior suites are just a little larger than the regular balcony cabins, but I will get my balcony. I am spending twice what I would have for the other cabin, but as my friend said, "Since it may be the last cruise for you, go out with a bang." It is on the aft of the ship on that rounded part and I am looking forward to it. I hear that it is wonderful back there for sunsets and also the fact that you do not get blown away. I am excited and am hoping this one does not get canceled or I get sick. Just wanted you, MY FRIENDS, to know what I am up to now and that I will not need your camper right now. 🤣🤣🤣🤣 💙💛

@@GablesOnTheGo You are so lucky because you have all the ports available to you in FL. Our nearest is NJ then MD and NY. I try to stick to NJ and MD.
Mark and Laurie, I've been enjoying your videos a great deal, and I have a quick question regarding rentals. It seems like the average price on the low end is similar to a hotel stay, 250- 300+ per night. I'm wondering if it's typical to get a deal on longer term stays, such as a month long rental? Is it always going to be the same price? Or will people work with you on longer stays? Again, love your videos! Thanks!
It depends on many factors as to whether the owner of the home will negotiate lower rates for longer stays typically. Most properties here are managed by a professional management company and each company has it's own way of determining rates for a rental, so really this is a tough question to answer. My best advice would be to call each place you are interested in and speak with them directly and discuss what your stay would look like, and just ask if you can get a particular rate you are looking for.

I'm pretty sure it was one from SureShade, it was a manual shade, but seemed very sturdy. Laurie and I had the automatic version on our boat, but honestly, I thin I would prefer the manual version for simplicity and less things to go wrong. It worked very well.
Love the shades! I would have to defer to Mark on those. They actually came with the boat and were a big selling point for us.

Is there a guide for vacation rental neighborhoods that don't have the typical 30 day minimum rental period? What percentage of the waterfront properties are those?
Hi Tom, Marathon and Key Colony Beach are the only areas that you can do 7 night rentals in single family homes. You may find a scattered few places outside of this that can do 7 night rentals but there are not really enough to count on.

Does Flamingo Island still only permit rentals of minimum 28 days?
For the most part, all areas outside Marathon City and Key Colony Beach, 28 nights are the minimum for single family homes. Inside these areas 7 nights are the minimum. Obviously this excludes condos, resorts and neighborhoods with HOA regulations that may provide different regulations.
I do believe Flamingo requires 28 night min. However, please check with the county or city to the final word on that.
