I always have wondered with these extraordinary athletes what is their mind set when that time comes that they have to retire do they say ok it was a great run and live a fulfilling life or do they struggle
during the little wipeout section, who sees the dude get absolutely ZOOTED off his board, and then as the wave is breaking and rolling over, dude pops out the top of the barrel before going to poundtown.. probably the most unique wipeout Ive ever seen. It looks like someone tied a rope to his waist and was standing on the shore, and just all of sudden YANKS him off the board.. and if thats not enough, he reappears out of the top of the barrell before getting worked. Its almost like Jaws said.. Oh damn there is no way he got a breath in during that fall, here ya go bud grab some air cuz Im about to work the snot out of you! lolol

I got to surf the inside waves of the Mavericks (in a kayak) in 1997 when I worked at CA Canoe and Kayak in Alameda/Pillar Point Harbor. It was amazing to see the surfers paddle out on huge boards and be tiny white lines coming down the wave faces that looked like mountains rising from the ocean. It's so cool to be able to see the action up close on these videos. Awesome series.. can't wait for more!!
