Minky Momo is far better than her rival of the time, "Magical Idol. Creamy Mami". In my opinion Momo is better, after her duty is to restore the dreams in the hearts of the earth's people, Creamy Mami is just a secondary idol of the 80s who tries to hide her identity and make herself a celebrity. Momo, as young she is, she has generous and unbelieavable heart!
I love both, and that's a poor read of Mami/Yuu's character. Yuu was chosen to wield magic power for a year and never intended to become a celebrity, she got chosen. Although she went with it she still expressed that it was burdensome and not really something she'd have picked out for herself. She also demonstrated selflessness and helps many other people and animals throughout the show, like Momo.
Saying which one is better is like saying wether cats or dogs are better and that it all depends on personal tastes. Creamy Mami and Minky Momo have different premises, and Minky Momo has a grander goal than Creamy Mami but Creamy Mami has a more down to earth approach on magic and arguably a more relatable main character, with an ordinary girl stumbling upon magic has to deal with the responsibilities that comes with it. By the end of the day, it just depends on which one suits your personal tastes. I think Persia the Magical Fairy or Sweet Mint is better to be compared to Momo than with Creamy Mami though, Persia and Mint are kind of following a similar premise and that's when you can pinpoint which one did it better.

The ending doesn’t matter actually, it doesn’t make sense and it’s literally only because that the animators were mad at the sponsor. The anime wasn’t supposed to end like this. About the earthquake that happened right after, let’s say it was a coincidence 😅

私は、海モモしか見たことなかったが、空モモを動画等で見たときに、やはり時代的に古いなあと感じました。
