  • For the design language of this family house, Esat Design drew from rural Mediterranean architecture and interior design to establish a homey and rustic feel into Grèce. From here, the architect took that language and combined it with a contemporary yet edgy approach to the exterior architecture, interior design and decor that would then reflect the client’s energetic personalities. Moreover, the architect and builder worked hard to create a family house that tied into the suburban context of Brisbane, Australia.
    The family house is perched on a hill and captures encompassing views of Brisbane city and beyond while also allowing the owners to live in an oasis-like home that calls back to their Greek heritage. As the house is surrounded by other family residences, the backyard is open to neighbouring yards to encourage family gatherings and allow the kids to play together. Moreover, the home was built by Batspac, which is owned by the homeowner’s brothers, therefore capturing the importance of family in its design.
    Spread over three levels, the family house makes use of the steep slope it is positioned upon and embraces personal touches from the clients themselves. As such, Batspac built Grèce with the help of Esat Design in a modern Mediterranean architectural style. This includes the use of thick lines, bolstered architecture, stone floors and a timeless design that emulates the feeling of living in Greece. Major design elements of the home that are shown through the house tour include curves along the ceiling, window and door frames and even in pieces of furniture.
    As the house tour moves upstairs, a glimpse of an inner courtyard, which echoes a traditional Greek courtyard, encourages a wealth of natural light into the home. Further down the hall, the children’s bedrooms have been arranged around a secondary small living space that encourages connection and reimagines play time. Positioned at the highest point of the family house is the main bedroom, which awards the owners with a sense of seclusion. Furthermore, the room features a private balcony with outlooks toward the city and surrounding nature, an ensuite with a concrete bath and an enormous walk-in-robe.
    On the lowest level of the residence, a feeling of relaxation and calm has been emphasised with neutral materials and decor. Designed to emulate a wellness retreat, this level features a kitchenette, gym, sauna, cold plunge pool and locations for photoshoots that allow the client to work from home.
    A dwelling that allows the clients to live, work and play within one space, Grèce deftly caters to their every needs. Driven by emotion, Esat Design and Batspac worked together to create the ultimate family house that honours the owners’ Greek heritage.

    What I love most about this home is how they are in the incredibly fortunate position to live right next door to each other and the children can move in and out between both homes… which is how it is in a lot of European towns and villages

    I am not sure that people's comments based on what they like or don't like are remotely interesting to anyone else. The architect and builder have exactly fulfilled the brief of the family, who are clearly really proud and happy with the results. The climb up or down through the site internally managed to create a feeling of going through a Greek island village, and especially appreciated the view down into the lovely little courtyard.

    This house is a stunner. It's a Greek design with a modern minimalist twist. The pure white facade contrasted by the live greens is a superb finish with the arches in the background. Inside the home, the serenity continues in the same fashion with subtle contrasts and natural elements. So different from the houses generally covered on this channel.

      I live in Yate and our front gardens are like this, all connected, no fences and lots of green pedestrian walkways, similar to where I grew up. But what's weird is the kids don't play out. And I can't figure out why (we did when I was a kid in the 80/90s). What's changed.

    I wish they incorporated some more natural materials, warmer tones that recall stone and sand, and a touch of cycladic color palette with blue and green glass tiles for an ocean motif. I do like the use of curves and organic lines throughout, although the vertical balcony railings breaks that a bit. Personally I would've opted for a different shape

    The overall design is nice but I think the excessive amount of white makes the house to look more like an hospital, very cold, uninviting and boring. They missed the chance to add color with the furniture or beautiful art in the walls. At the end there's nothing really interesting that catch your eye, IMO.
    On the positive side, I loved the garden and the fact that the kids can move freely from one house to another. It reminds me of my childhood, when life was more peaceful and neighbors trust each other more.

      @J.e.f.f.r.e.y 24 дня назад +1

      True, but having timeless stone, concrete, timber and white paint in a house makes it easy to update overtime by just replacing furniture. I guess this is the furniture they like right now but could easily be updated. It can be very hard to update houses. All those 90s houses with horrible brown kitchens and bathrooms… if only they were white and built with natural products it wouldn’t be so much work to update and renovate

    • @ovejanegra7355
      @ovejanegra7355 24 дня назад

      @@J.e.f.f.r.e.y Yeah, I agree that when it comes to decoration, the current state of the house can be easily be improved cause with all the white everywhere is like an unused canvas. That can be easily fixed but it's obvious the owners are happy as it is today. Regards.

    I wonder how they’ll navigate the levels when they’re in their 60s-70s. It’s inevitable that our mobility becomes challenged to some degree as we age, no matter how proactive we are in our 30s. That’s one things home buyers and builders consistently fail to address in their choices.
