I’d be willing to bet that within a year or so the animations will see significant improvement, and as you suggest we will soon be at the point of not knowing reality from fiction. It will be interesting to say the least.

      While many people think that since the effects in the 1950's were so cheap and fake looking , that it must have been all that they were able to do at the time, but that was not the case. The lazy work was the result of nepotism and people with no talent being hired to make all of that stuff. And it was only in America. The proof of this is the spectacular makeup and special effects in films like "Haxan' from 1922 and "the Ring of the Nibelungen" also from that time. There were artists capable of doing great work but the doors were closed at the studios and they were not let in.

      There were good FX films in the 50's, but most of them were historical fiction or war pictures. Sci-Fi & fantasy works were usually done by smaller companies or major studios' B-units.
      If you want decent sci-fi or fantasy from the time period, try George Pal, Ray Harryhausen, or Walt Disney's stuff.

    • @trevormoffat4054

      @@stillbuyvhs I love the old style FX. They had to be so much more creative in the days before computers did everything. When I was a kid, Ray Harryhausen was still at the top of his game with movies like Jason and The Argonauts. Watching old sci fi and fantasy movies left you with the feeling of awe and wonder about how they were able to create these magical and mysterious worlds- it really did feel like magic. Even the cheap ones.

      CGI tries to go real but often fails because of bad animation. Models already present to your brain a real quality but not so real that it's taking you away from the ultimate fact. That it's just a story.
      I think the human brain needs to engage imagination to actually get more out of a story, rather than spoonfeeding you completely believable visuals with unrealistic content.

    The person making these really needs to produce a full movie. I would so very much want to see many movies with this feel. A classic science fiction novel that would be stunning in this style would be the great novel Norstrillia by Cordwainer Smith (sci-fi pen-name of the late Johns Hopkins professor of East Asia studies, Paul Linebarger, US Army expert on psychological warfare who wrote the acknowledged “Bible” on the subject, godson of Sun Yat-sen, and writer of some of the most disturbing sci-fi of the 1940s-1950s). Since first reading Norstillia as a teen 40 years ago, I’ve always dreamed of a movie of it. A miniseries in this style based on Norstrillia would be mind-boggling.

      @@niloticshadowit's worse than hate. It's apathy. People enjoy them in the theater but after that they're just kind of forgotten about. I always say people like Avatar but there's no *fans* of Avatar. How many Avatar T-shirts do you see? How many people quote Avatar in conversation? Almost no one collects Avatar. I own two tattoo shops. I've never seen anyone get an Avatar tattoo and I've never seen someone with one. I can't tell you how many Harry Potter tattoos I've done. Or Star Wars or Marvel or DC or Zelda or whatever.

    • @niloticshadow
      @niloticshadow 3 месяца назад +3

      @@kingswing00 Well, yeah that's what happens with any one-off story. Just because they don't have a whole day event dedicated to Avatar every year or countless toys or whatever doesn't make it less worthy. Anything sci-fi that isn't Star Wars or Star Trek is usually left in the dark until something new from the property releases. That's just how it works. People have short attention span and move on to the next thing to consume. I know numerous people, some of which who are relatives, that despise Star Wars and can't take it seriously but thoroughly enjoyed both Avatar movies.
      If Avatar was a one-hit wonder or wasn't a cultural sensation as you're alluding to then it wouldn't have surpassed Endgame at the box office when it was re-released and reclaim its place as the highest-grossing movie of all time. And Avatar 2 certainly wouldn't have made it to the No. 3 spot. There is a genuine fanbase for this now franchise and it was felt yet again when the sequel was released. Just because you don't see it doesn't mean it's not there.
      Typically it's not a thing for a one-off film to continuously sell merchandise and I'm sure Star Wars had moments when it became less relevant, especially during the years between each of the trilogies when the movies were somewhat absent from the big screens. The only reason why Star Wars is so iconic is because it pioneered a lot of its concepts for a genre that hasn't been explored properly in Hollywood. Generally, anything that comes out nowadays, no matter how original and impactful, will always struggle to achieve that same cultural sensation which Star Wars has and that's not necessarily a bad thing. Avatar might just be the next big franchise depending on where the sequels will take us.

    People need to start watching movies from this era. The effects are that of a toddler but the story lines and acting were always incredible

    😀😃😄😁😆🥹😅😂🤣🥲😝😜🤪 oh dear! This is probably what it would’ve looked like had it been done back in the 1950s! It’s brilliant the way you’ve done it to look as if it was made back then.

    It had a scintillating 50’s feel to a millennium concept, this film would have been the greatest film if it was released in this same epic format during the 50’s. A very unique retro feel that it still provides intriguing moments to the modern generation.

    This is some kind of new art form. I would like to see one on the terminator, 1930's style though.

    This Vision of Avatar feels like it belongs to Dune Universe! Quite cool.
