    I have to say a big thank you for this video. My area Law Enforcement just switched to P-25. Which wasn't a problem. My HomePatrol 1 & 2 works just fine on P-25 trunking. The problem is Radio Reference and Sentinel software posted the new talk groups, but there were at least 2 talk groups not listed and a couple of channels in some talk groups not listed. So I upgraded to the SDS 100 and watching your video was able to use Discovery mode to find the missing talk groups and add them to the system in favorites. All this was done in just a few hours of receiving my scanner, learning the basics, and then following your video. What made this important to me was, one of the department talk groups missing was the department I retired from after 34 years.

      Thank you for your service, sir. I'm glad you got it working the way you wanted it to. I'm thinking about getting a digital one like that, but I'm still trying to figure out exactly how they're programmed. This video helps, and I know a little bit about how digital trunked systems work but I'm still not completely sure, and one of the officers in the department where I am said they're probably gonna migrate to the Ohio MARCS-IP system in the next couple of years. And I'm glad because they're so much clearer and safer than the analog systems, but it sure takes a while to figure them out.

    This is great! I just received a new SDS100 and thanks to this video I was able to start programming my local P25 trunk system right away. I'm new to digital scanning so I had to start from zero. Once one figures out the logic of "Favorites/System/Site/Department/Channel" etc. it starts to make sense. Thanks

    Thank you! Finally a real guide to program a P25 system. I live outside the US and will certainly give it a try. I really don't have a frequency list so that is an additional problem. I scanned ranges and noted down frequencies in which the radio stopped with a P25 caption. I followed the tutorial but nothing came up. I will keep trying so I can finally get my sds100 to monitor digital systems. Thanks again.

      Hey, glad to hear the tutorial helped you get your SDS100 up and running! 🎉
      About your question on DEC vs. HEX: both are just different ways of showing the same information. DEC (Decimal) is what most of us are used to-regular numbers. HEX (Hexadecimal) is a bit more technical, using numbers and letters (like 0-9 and A-F).
      So, if your scanner is showing HEX but you’ve got the info in DEC, just stick with what you have-it’ll work the same way. Just make sure to be consistent with whichever format you’re using.
      Hope this clears things up! Let me know if you have any other questions, and happy scanning! 🚀

      @@BoyAndAScanner your very welcome! Is there a way that you can separate police from, fire, from ambulance, and ham and ect. From different county's and or different departments I know that will take a lot of channels or banks or whatever you want to call it. For example I live in Ashtabula county Ohio I want to take the sheriff all by itself, then take local by itself and then the Ohio Highway patrol by itself and put the local fire by itself and ambulance and so on. Then go to the next county and do the same thing and so on. I know it sounds silly but let's say one I decide I don't want to listen to the fire department and block that out and put back when I want it on without blocking all the channels you know what I mean or does that sound confusing? That would help. One more thing do you have all the upgrades and do you recommend it because as soon as you go traveling you always run into a different radio system and if you don't have it then you lose out. Sorry for the long reply just trying to give you and idea. lol

      Boy And A Scanner I will have to go ahead and find a way to make that happen. Is lightning something I should worry about when adding an antenna outside? I’m in Los Angeles and we hardly get any lightning, but fir them rare days that we do, would like to know if there’s anything I need to do to keep it safe.

    • @BoyAndAScanner
      @BoyAndAScanner  4 года назад

      @@LURKING323 Yes that can be a concern. I haven't had issues yet but only have had a few thunder and lightning storms come through since I put it up a few weeks ago. I do have a copper ground wire that I attached to the ground on the antenna and took it down to the dirt and attached it to a copper rod that's about a foot and a half deep. They do make lightning arresters though that you can just attach in line with the coax which may be an easier solution for your location. I wouldn't worry too much though, I think you'd need to be pretty up there and isolated to get hit.

    Is there different steps between phase one and phase two set up?

    • @BoyAndAScanner
      @BoyAndAScanner  22 дня назад

      The setup steps for programming Phase 1 and Phase 2 P25 systems on the SDS100 are quite similar. The main difference is that with a Phase 2 system, you need to ensure that the system type is set to “P25 Standard (Phase 2)” when you’re creating or editing the system. This setting allows the scanner to properly decode Phase 2 transmissions.
      Other than that, the process for entering frequencies, talkgroups, and other details remains the same. Both Phase 1 and Phase 2 systems will be programmed similarly beyond selecting the correct system type.
      Hope this helps! Cheers

    Hi, in order to learn how to program my SDS100 manually, I'm trying to use the Discovery feature to find P25 Trunking systems. When I set the Discovery feature it asks me for a new session and a name for a system. How do I enter or define a system? It seems that you need to have a system set in order to use the Discovery feature. I live outside the US so I can't use Radio Reference or the zip code feature. Thanks for your assistance. 73.

    • @BoyAndAScanner
      @BoyAndAScanner  4 года назад

      Hello thanks for watching and asking this question. So when you’re using the discovery feature it’s best to just use conventional because it will show you if the system is digital by showing P 25 cap+, etc. if it picks up activity on a certain frequency. But for example here in the United States if I put in a ZIP Code and I go to discovery and I use the trunking discovery I can just click enter on the system without entering any text and it will automatically show a list of systems in my area that I can choose to discover. It’s much easier just to use the conventional discovery though and set your lower and higher frequency and just let it search until you find something because it will find digital frequencies and then at that point you can follow my instructions for setting up a P 25 system that I have here on my channel.

      I would think this would help a great deal yes. Check out the Procomm spider that I did a test with here on the channel. That’s my main base antenna now I and it’s working amazing. Keep in mind you’ll want to stay away from electrical as much as possible. For the antenna I mentioned all you’ll need is a bnc to sma for it to connect to the sds100. It comes with the coax. If I come across anything else I’ll let you know But I only wanted to give you an opinion on a base antenna that I’m actually currently using that’s working better than my other antennas.

      Here in Australia we do have P25 systems (mainly government) but more and more commercial users are moving to DMR Tier 3 (trunked) networks which the SDS200 can monitor.
