- Kris from Way of the Brush and I check out the newest iteration of the 2018 re-launch of Necromunda. This time we're outside the hive in the deadly toxic wasteland of the Ash Wastes, riding giant fleas and burning out on Quad-Bikes!

Ash Waste Nomads equipped and ready for the Ash Wastes: “ Ahh the wind it burns!”
Orlocks with bare skin and biker leathers: “Oh what a day, what a lovely day!”
Canadian Winter summarized
I was thinking the same thing. Seems silly
"The stillsuits, they do nothing! Argh the goggles they do nothing either!"
Glad to have Necromunda back in the rotation. This box set has revived interest in the group I play with so back into the underhive and out into the wastes we go!
I am happy to watch Ash play GW games. I love his enthusiasm when he plays. I am happy to not pay $300 for this set.
I remember when the ash nomads first appeared as black library rules. Looks to be fun and loved the Dune references.
Great battle Report and miniatures. Can’t wait to pick this box set up !
I salute you sir. As someone who opened the Cursed City box this weekend and closed it right back up after a glance. Your dedication to your channel is second to none when it comes to getting new games to the table. I get this is a job for you but I still respect the effort. I love the hobby side of wargaming but im totally burnt out at the moment. I can only imagine what thats gotta be like for you. Hope its still fun and not all work. Great video, great channel!
Barely scratched the surface of how great the new ash wastes scenarios and rules are. Really hope you do another one that delves deeper!
Love the modularity of that terrain. Seems well thought out for once.
All of the munda (and 40K terrain) is well thought out. Check out the designers twitter accounts if you doubt it.
@@hairymule1 I wasn't that completely impressed with the Dark Uprising set, it is fiddly with the setup for the doors as well as not keying into the plastic tiles. Just not as well put together as I expected with that set.
300 dollars for the box set is too rich for me
I'm glad this one got previewed, potato game mat and you have to buy a separate book, to play in any other manner, with the contents, for $300? Did the entirety of Activisions upper management come over to GW and I didn't hear about it? It would seem GW is back to holding fans of their IP hostage.
430 in australia. Shit's mental.
My first 3d printer only cost $299. Just sayin.
@@therustbeltblacksmith this is why I play Infinity. (Edit: I mean, along with the fact that it’s a *good* game)
I agree. $299. I get it, it's marketing. 300 IS dollars is just nuts, even with discounts. Just going to stick with what I have until the prices drop - which probably will not happen. Got back into Warhammer in 2018 and the prices have just been going up. Just too much of an expensive hobby in order to support GW.
Great to see you guys play Necromunda again!!! Any plans to maybe continue making more videos on the game?
We’ll run the full six game season.
Pretty awesome box set. But gang stats in the assembly guide; Not good!
I haven't bought anything from GW since maybe 2017 but this is the first box that actually had me interested. Then I saw the price and I noped the F out again.
seriously, this would have been a $100 set, maybe 150 a few years ago. this has been getting out of hand for a while. I like the nomads for my own desert chaos, but that's it. i'll wait till they're on their own.
@@antigrav6004 they already are!
You can buy this on EBay for $150 now. Just got mine in the mail and it feels like it weighs 25lbs!
This looks awesome. For 300 bucks that should have really been a cardboard mat. The folds in the paper really bother me. Your paint job on the terrain looks nice.
for 430$ (in australia) it should come with a bag of coke or two. F Me.
@@Mr_jz_12 $430 AUD? Should check again its $475 its the single most expensive kit games workshop have put out as far as my group can work out
@@redsargent1 i found i somewhere for that much. Not sure where it was though.
@@Mr_jz_12 oh im sure some of the non GW stores do a discount my local does a flat 10% off so that makes it about $430 straight up from GW itself is half of my payslip gone which is actual insanity for what you get
@@redsargent1 yeah it was an independant store/hobby store.
So I love that you guy are playing Necro again - I love this game.
It might just be a home-brew rule I'm unaware of since you used it in your old campaign as well, but going by the rulebook flesh wounds only effect toughness - not strength.
I'm experiencing some incredible ludonarrative dissonance from the nomads geared up to live in the wasteland melting from the wind, rather than the city bros with actual exposed faces and limbs. Credit to you, Ash, for making a Let's Play that is fun to watch even when the scenario rules try their best to ruin the game.
Wouldn't it be enough that the models with better armor get a better chance to save with a normal armor check? Asymmetrical rules like this might sound interesting on paper, but they often suck the fun out of a game in practice. Add to that is the constant interruption of play to make a check that can only have a neutral-to-bad outcome. There are no good choices to make and no counter-play. In my group, we would re-roll that result or skip the table entirely.
I’d just up the Nomad save to like 3+ and I think they’re fine.
@@GuerrillaMiniatureGames Yeah, that would probably work. But it should be kicking those Orlock butts too. Those biker dads are wandering the wastes without sunblock!
@@escapo6895 I think the idea behind it is that the Nomads are just cheap randos that wandered out of the underlive to try their luck in the wasteland , where as the gangers are more heavily armed and armored with and idea of what their up against? so the Nomads are underfunded and should be dirt cheap and easy to replace? I haven't seen the rules yet soooooo I don't know if that's how it plays? but this is a classic case of quantity vers quality .... if the Nomads are just as hard to replace as other gangers then ya this is kinda broken?
@@Hopkinsamadeus i see your idea but if you look them up it says they've lived for generations and where there before the hive city's. So they would have tons of experience with the weather
@@aolomasthavean4311 ya if they have been out there for generations then I see your point, they should be more equipped to deal with the environment otherwise how did they make it generations? and tame giant bugs to ride?
Love the Fremen names for the nomads
That terrain looks awesome!!! The Nomads look super cool. I already have an Orlock gang but I kind of want those Quad Bikes...
How could I not! Awesome!
Thanks for a great battle report.
Love your videos Ash.
Nomads being killed/wounded by the very environment that they live in......hmm...bit of an oversight on GW's part there I feel.
Yeah, I’m going to remove that rule when I play
It’s a bit dumb
So excited to give this a try. Necromunda just keeps getting better and better.
Necromunda, you beautiful bastard. Evocative background and lore, wonderful models and a detailed campaign system. But ”roll to hit, roll to wound, roll to save, roll injury”, (four different rolls to see what happens from a single decision is just repetitive rolling in my opinion) and a lack of interesting tactical options coupled with the need for an expansive library of books just to build a gang? Sorry GW. At a price like this I need more ”game” to want to play it. I’ll probably get Nomads to use in Stargrave though.
Thank you Ash, as always.
Those first three rolls are standard GW fare. The last roll is what keeps models alive and part of the story behind what happens to them. Given that there are only a few models in each gang, it keeps the game alive longer.
And if you are against the practice of books that GW produces there are other means. Can still enjoy the game and background
It's a stupidly clunky system in a pretty package. A common trait for games workshop stuff
Ash you just got this because it has Ash in the name! 🤣
yes! i love the new nomads
This man dont miss, so how long from box to played game this time...
Kris did all the heavy lifting on the Orlocks which helped a ton. :)
I thought "Cash Wastes" was quite witty.
Ha, Fremen references, nice. Usul approved 😉
Good stuff dudes!
I am so stealing the name, "Dads of Anarchy!"
I'm getting a feeling that this might be rough on a melee focused gang.
For me Necronuda is the setting. It whoudl need more vehicle madness or travelling etc to make me want to leave the dark undercity.
Nomads appear to be following the Law of Murphy.
Did they change the run rules to add 1d6" instead of doubling your move? Also it's crazy that the Nomads are more vulnerable to Ash Waste conditions than Orlocks... They used to have some sort of immunity if i recall...
Nah we just haven’t played in two years and Chris mistook the charge rules for Simple Move.
Boiling wind. Season of fllame. Awesome! Not your wastes today though.
It's got a real Mad Max video game feel, like I want to do a gang of scrawny bald Goliath warboys to fight against the creepy underground dwelling ash nomads. WITNESS ME!
Man, those nomads got WREKD
Ash Wastes is my Spirit Animal
Great ! Thanks for the review. We were interested but there will not French translation and the price is really expansive... So we wait (and see) for the moment, but this box est really fun (nomads!!!) ! Regards, John
Ash wastes no time to play Ash Wastes.
So I haven't been paying Necromunda much mind save the occasional look at the Orlocks, but man Scipius that terrain is something I'm definitely going to have to pick up
The giant mites r giving me ratskin vibes, the rat god had really cool story and rules
That terrain is awesome
As someone else said that paper board should really really be cardboard for how much the set costs
Hail all
Had great fun playing this today with friends, just a question about your quad with only a one crew member - the book shows the quad outrider is 120cr it doesnt say thats 120cr for each crew member, also the profile shows 2 wounds so that suggests its 120cr for a 2man crewed quad.
Also it says in the equipment list that the quad can "only" take either a heavy bolter or harpoon so no pistols or cc weapons.
So in a game marketed as high speed vehicular combat, vehicles spend all game stalled, 80% of the models are on foot, limited cover, verticality seems like a waste too. It resulted in a shooting competition. Doesn't seem very inspired. Maybe if they'd released a set with transports so everyone is mounted and can disembark to find cover and make it more objective focused it could have been interesting. Plus why the bugs toughness 3 with 1 wound!? Kinda seems like a missed opportunity.
Damn, I didn't realise GW named a game after you.
Really great battle report and I love he color scheme of the terrain. Did you just paint it tan then sponge on the red?
That was fun!
nice game ..good game
Ooof that paper mat.
Did you iron the poster directly or with a towel or something over it?
I wonder how hard it would be to do a 3d version of the "playmat" using sand and grates.
Not too hard
Fun game. Love the terrain! You mentioned that you used the "Double Rattle Can" method. Which sprays did you use?
Check out the On the Paint Table from that week!
Thanks, I will do that!
The dice were against Ash.
Disappointing that the playmat is paper instead of cardboard.
Yeah, now I’m thinking about skipping this preorder. No cardboard mat really eats into the value of the box.
Yeah I just got one might buy one for my broke AF friends!
Did you guys miss the rule that gives the Nomads a special save against environmental effects? Lovely painting and fun game!
We used it. It’s only 5+
@@GuerrillaMiniatureGames I hope the full rules for Nomads give them a wee bit more in this respect! Thanks for the great report, entertaining as always :)
-400Cr, for Gangs without ways to spend their AW allotment, does mean extra Tactics Cards. So there's that.
You got it! I do imagine the supplement with all the vehicles in it just be hot behind this though.
I think were starting to see the melding of Gorka Morka with Necromunda.... yes please! I Hope that's what were about to see with the vehicle release?
Oh dear, the puns/double-entendres....
Did they change the close combat rules?
Looks like fun. Even at 300 usd :D
Got this set for 170 on amazon lol
And so my Necromunda journey ends.
I'm shocked and yet not shocked that there are no detailed ganger/nomads rules or more expansive vehicles rules. I know there is a big vehicle coming for Ash Wastes and there will probably be a vehicular guide to go along with it (gotta milk it). I'm a bit torn on this set as I have Dark Uprising, which I love, but I do like the idea of the vehicular combat. Unfortunately, the rules aren't completely available yet. It irks me a bit that GW still cheaps out on the game mat (as they did in Dark Uprising) as it really should be cardboard. But I've got some desert/wasteland mats so not a huge deal breaker.
At least I know Necromunda is supported and will continue to get expansions. But then again, the somewhat "new" Chaos Knights/Wardogs are coming out (next week?) plus the Imperial/Chaos Knights codices and I'm not wanting to drop near $800 on this hobby in a single month . 😬
Did GW send you an advance copy?
The best news for second hand markets- ever.
GW still doesn't get that they effectively priced out their market.
That's a surprising lack of cover for a necromunda game...
meant to be like that with ash wastes apparently. Found it odd too.
Apparently AW Battles rely heavily on Environment type game mechanics to mitigate lack of Terrain, cover. But yeah, still weird GW puts that lil terrain on a 3x3 Battlefield. Even on a Kill Team sized 30x22" mat, not a lot of cover. I see alot of Age Of Sigmar Azyrite Ruins, 40k Sector Imperialis ruins & suchlike coming to Necromunda: Ash Wastes Battles soon!
Someone's been reading Dune. :)
What size is the play mat? 3x3 ?
Yeah, but it’s just a ‘get started’ mat. Standard size is still 4x4.
@@GuerrillaMiniatureGames noice , may or may not be thinking of making a dedicated landscaped board 🤔 just need a better image of the "map" on the playmat
Um.... Price!!
Love how GW just repackages everything...
So an expansion only covers the two gangs included in the box? If the price didn't put me off, this certainly does. I wanted more than just a few extra models.
GW BRING BaCK EPIC 4OK
300.00 and all you get is half a game.
looks fun but not worth 300 to me
Hilariously awful rolls there, Ash 😂
At least I’m consistent!
There are too many die rolls intercepting the flow of play for my taste. I think I'll stick to indy games instead.
GW takes a really cool game setting, age them makes it entirely too fussy to actually play.
I’m 24 minutes in and nobody has moved, they’ve just rolled dice at each other. This does not seem like an interesting game. Holding in there for the rest of the game. Maybe something truly fascinating will happen. GW really need to get some actual games designers back on board.
Hey everybody after you're done commenting about games workshop shills and the ridiculous price gouging, Go check out discourse miniature's videos especially the one she just released about ash wastes.
Games Workshop Delenda est.
do you enjoy playing with dolls, adult men
you are grounded mister
The official term is wardollies
@@ondarkendwings :)
Wait... I thought you can only allocate 1 dice for the pistol in close combat
