    I’ve heard many things about your church and ministry that we’re negative. This was incredible. Such a beautiful explanation of your theology and your passion for Jesus and his church. I so appreciate your honesty and transparency. I have a whole new view and respect for you all. Thank you for this. I will defend you to anyone who criticizes you. I go to an evangelical church and I’m a woman who studies the WORD. As I listened to you, I realized you are living out of the Word and the example of Jesus. Satan disguises himself as an angel of light, the deception coming out of Bethel is very hard to see for people who arent mature and really know the Word. Its not deception if its easy to see..when Satan tempted Jesus he misuses Scripture to try and get him to toss himself off the cliff. Satan knows Scripture, too and he loves misusing it to trick people.

The lineage of David.
      He walked this earth for 33 years, He was wounded for our transgressions, bruised for our iniquities, by His stripes we are healed. By His shed blood we are saved. There are serious issues with The Passion Translation. Please do watch Pastor Mike Winger's series on this, which has scholars explaining why this should not be used. Brian Simmons undoubtedly has passion, but to say those who criticise this so-called translation are not in love with Jesus and have a critical spirit is just unfair and untrue.

    • @rachelg1372
      @rachelg1372 3 года назад +5

      Brian Simmons is majorly deceived. He claims to have another book of the Bible which will be revealed to people when he is allowed. That is garbage and contrary to scripture. The verses in the "Passion" translation are grossly distorted from their original meaning. The man has zero translation or linguistic training whatsoever. I have a graduate degree in linguistics and I wouldn't dare touch something like the Bible without several other scholars working with me, and even then I'd think at this point it is useless to do yet "another" translation since they did that years ago and it is quite accurate.

      @Dean Agnor hey man, BSSM 3rd year alumnus here. Please don't slander Mike Winger. He's practically the only youtuber I know of who clearly displays humility, a desire to understand and fairness in his discussions about various topics.
      His main beef with the Passion is that it calls itself a "translation" rather than a "targum" or "paraphrase" which would be more accurate. His critiques are together with acknowledged translators of all kinds and backgrounds to try and get a varied feedback on TPT. A few of the ones he's had on quite like it, although they all agree it is not a translation, but rather a retelling and amplification of the original manuscripts.

    • @Filipalien
      @Filipalien 3 года назад +3

      @Dean Agnor I was introduced to him by a fellow alumnus about 3 years ago. My friend shared the video where Mike critiques Bill Johnson's theology.
      His points were valid. As someone who has seen hours of Bethel-critical stuff, and engaged dozens of comment threads in defense of Bethel's views and practices, Mike's video about Bill is _the only_ video doing so that I endorse. He showed an effort to understand (having listened to numerous bethel.tv-sermons and being encouraged by them) a gracious approach to certain statements Bill makes, and none of the accusing slander that all others (fighting4thefaith, Justin Peters) partake of at some level.
      Mike raises some legitimate concerns without leaping to judgment and condemnation, clearly outlining where he has questions, and where he sees something contradict Scripture and become dangerous. I may have missed something, of course, so I'd gladly watch/read sources you might have that show him having a critical spirit towards Bethel :)

    • @norab1674
      @norab1674 3 года назад +2

      @Dean Agnor I do not think your assessment of Mike Winger's Heart is accurate. I have watched a lot of his video's and he is humble, thoughtful and bases everything in scripture. He has some concerns about Bill and Bethel's teachings, which he voices with grace and truth.
      Having watched many hours of Bill's teaching (I love his stuff) since being reconciled to Christ during a Love After Marriage weekend at our church (my wife dragged me along kicking and screaming), I also have some things that I don't agree with Bill about, which is allowed I am sure. I have been majorly blessed by both ministries of these men of God.
      However TPT is a major concern of mine after reading it quite heavily for the first year after LAM. It is misleading and subtilty changes the meaning of scripture. I do not believe it should be used as any believers 'primary text to seriously study God’s Word' as the website states.
      It is not a 'Jihad', it is a serious study in to the claims being made about a new (seriously altered) translation of the bible. Surely it is right that someone does this faithfully and objectively, particularly given the damage that can be done by studying a bible that is flavored by the translator.

    • @Filipalien
      @Filipalien 3 года назад

      @Dean Agnor I haven't heard him accuse Bethel of putting glitter in the vents, nor deny apostles in the modern church. I think I remember him making a distinction between "the original 12" and subsequent people called by God (in terms of authoritatively laying down doctrine and affirming what's Scripture and what's not), but if you could find, or help me search for these things, I'd love to be more informed :)
      Being skeptical isn't bad, btw. It doesn't mean denying something happened, but just having an open, questioning mind. It CAN pass over into active unbelief, but again, that's not something I think Mike Winger is guilty of. I haven't seen where he expresses skepticism of Brian's testimony either (I'm guessing this is part of his nervous breakdown and addiction 5-10 years ago?)
      As for Bethel's approach to prophecy, I agree he doesn't give much Scriptural basis for critiquing it, but to be fair, neither does Bethel make a solid biblical case for why we train people that way. There is no Scriptural precedent for "practicing to hear God's voice". There's an aspect of renewing the mind so we can know God's will, but there is a lot of really bad prophecy coming out of Bethel/BSSM-associates. I know, I've been a propagator of it myself :P

I moved away from altar calls a long time ago because I started seeing the often unintentional manipulation that took place in trying to get people to the altar. We make prayer a central part of what we do as well as time to ask questions and meet with others. We give altar calls if we believe we should but never because its tradition. Yahweh gives people plenty of ways to respond to the message.

    I was so grateful to find this video on my RUclips feed. I'm not a Bethel insider, but I've listened to Bill speak several times and I've never heard anything I found to be heretical. Even more, I found a lot of it to be insightful or inspirational. I think most of the concerns and critiques flow from the belief that miracles and healings are for today. Outside of that, I haven't found anything substantial that critics could really hang their hat on that flows outside of most Christian circles. Some critics believe they preach a prosperity Gospel....I haven't seen it. Other critics believe they profess a hyper-grace that is dismissive of sin. Nothing could be further from the truth. Any others?
    I also liked how they addressed particular questions that I had. A big one is the TPT translation. I have no problem with their perspective there-> If they're not advocating it as a proof text but feel, akin to the Message translation, it offers insightful context that is consistent with the NKJV and NASB translations- I have no problem with that.
    And the section on their Theology regarding sickness and healing was outstanding. While I believe healing and miracles are possible, I still had questions within that theological framework that I feel they addressed well.
    Again, I really appreciated this interview and hope they do more. I plan to use it to defend false assertions and misunderstandings cast against them. Thank you!

      @@mb1015 I would sincerely appreciate examples of where/how they are biblically heretical, if that's the case. I will listen if you have specific examples. Again, one of the biggest concerns I initially had was how dependent they may be regarding the TPT translation. I regard it similar to the MSG translation-> If you're reviewing its content next to one of the other translations like the NIV, ESV, and NKJV translations and find it to be reliably consistent, then I don't see how it's a problem. Do I use it? Very rarely, if ever. Do I find the way they described using the TPT to be heretical- No, absolutely not.
      Most other critiques have to do with their belief in the power of the Holy Spirit and miracles-> I'm sure that in striving to be dependent on the Holy Spirit and open to His potential, they may be more susceptible to false witnesses within their congregation (being that dependent and open to the Spirit also demands great responsibility)-> but that DOESN'T mean their leaders are false witnesses. I did a deep pneumatology study of the letters of Paul in Seminary and I was blown away by how just about every one of Paul's letter emphasizes the power of the Spirit among them, and even implies very candidly how the different churches Paul's addressing have already witnessed miraculous signs among them (Rom 15:18-19, 2 Cor 12:12, Gal 3:5). The Gospels, Acts, and other letters (James 5:15) only more firmly confirms this conviction. After that class, I put my faith in trust in what the bible plainly says about the power of the Holy Spirit and I do not see Scripture passages that cessationists can rely on as an irrefutable rebuttal.
      But, if there's something else or you feel I'm missing something, let me know. Be specific. Thank you. Cheers.

    characterizing the criticism of TPT as only coming from those w a critical spirit or those who don't really have a love relationship with Jesus isn't just disingenuous, it's terribly presumptuous and is, ironically, a demonstration of a truly critical spirit. People, including many charismatics, have honest concerns about Bethel etc promoting a translation that doesn't simply alter the Bible in slight fashion, but shamelessly changes the word of God in extra-ordinary and easily identifiable ways-ways that change the entire meaning. Diminishing the seriousness of this issue by accusing people of having a "religious spirit" is wrong and I hope Bethel will look more closely at this and honestly engage people's concerns.

    Why does Bethel have a "school" that "teaches the gifts" and charges money for it?
    "Now when Simon saw that the Spirit was given through the laying on of the apostles’ hands, he offered them money, saying, “Give me this power also, so that anyone on whom I lay my hands may receive the Holy Spirit.” But Peter said to him,** “May your silver perish with you, because you thought you could obtain the gift of God with money! You have neither part nor lot in this matter, for your heart is not right before God.**Repent, therefore, of this wickedness of yours, and pray to the Lord that, if possible, the intent of your heart may be forgiven you." The prophet Samuel founded several prophetic communities (prophetic disicipleships) In order to become a priest, pastor or a missonary, i would think you needed some credentials snd training.
      The charging of money is of course needed to found schools or other ministries. Its not wrong that christians pay for stuff or ministries the receives. Paul charged the churches so he could work as an evangelist. Acts 8:18-22 talks about buying the gifts of the spirit. That is something else than paying for training and services you receive. My Dad is now a Pastor and has a 2 doctorates in Theology and teaches on some of the prestigious universities in London and around the world...
      Since a child, we’ve been taught to read and study the word of God - properly- so from a child I knew simple things like Jesus was a actually born, the true translation of His name, how to really study, Hebrew etc.. ( I’m 37 now)
      I said all that to say that as much as you study, you cannot get around the fact that healing etc is real and should be happening. Many churches etc create doctrines around it and explain it all away and make even our Holy Spirit reduced to some sort of bird or cloud.

      @@queenmarytorishe Hi, I have never said I don't believe in healing. I've prayed and ppl were healed. Not each time, but true answer to the prayers. I have friends who also pray and God answers. My own salvation came bc the Holy Spirit spoke to a woman I only met briefly. He spoke to her to pray for my salvation. I didn't know till years later. Boy, it was some journey. Going from no belief to searching for answers in scripture and prayer. It was all happening bc she did pray. When I came to trusting Christ as my Savior, I didn't know where to go to a church. So I prayed, went to the yellow pages of the phonebook, put my finger on a church and called them. I asked, do you pray in tongues in your church?
      They do and I got directions how to get there. I had never been in that area before. After service a woman came up to me who had been sitting at the very opposite of the pew I sat.
      She reintroduced herself. She was the woman I only met for about 10 minutes. That is the main focus for our prayers, to pray for salvation of lost, the prodicals, and those weak in faith. I am so glad I never came to having experiences, for we only know about the gospel bc it is written and to have faith in what is written..I know that everything we need to know about past, present and future has already been written.
      I know that faith is not emotion, but trusting, relying, leaning and depending on the written word of God. Man can teach, but Jesus commands we test it with scripture to know what spirit it is of.
      One doesn't have to have college degree to learn. We are already directed how godly wisdom, knowledge, understanding and revelations of the word comes. It isn't IQ at all. It's the abiding in the Vine, meditating on the scriptures.
      God made the importance of scripture plain for all to understand
      what faith is and what it is not.
      Now in these Last Days we have seen many churches being infiltrated with demonic practices.
      They have been told by false prophets that it is a new move of the Holy Spirit. Only there is only what Jesus taught about the Holy Spirit that will take place. The spirit counterfeiting the Holy Spirit is Kundalini and yes, I never heard the word before and curious about it ,so I googled it. You are very young and have a long journey ahead, You will have many teachings that you will need to test. Words false teachers and prophets say can sound convincing. Most what they say is biblical, but words are taken out of context and twisted,enough to change what God has actually said.
      Revelations gives us a prayer to pray, Father, in Jesus name I ask for ears to hear what the Spirit is saying to me. I'm 77,and have had a long journey. I've been tested to know true biblical faith. It goes with the territory.We all go through the fiery trials of our faith in the scriptures and the God of the scriptures.
      Best to you as your love for Jesus is grounded deeper and deeper.

      As a somewhat new Christian from Unitarinism, I can honestly say, this Behavior and Movement was ammunition to attack the Evangelicals. We Thrived on such demonic behavior....Im just being honest...Dont loose focus is my point and rid this ungodly behavior and misdirection.

    In regards to the the passion translation, I think its interesting how they can focus much of their talk on the Holy Spirit, yet downplay someone casually changing the words the Holy Spirit inspired in Scripture. If knowing, following and obeying the Holy Spirit is so important to them, then surely they would want to read and teach the most accurate representation of that they can.

      @Dean Agnor Actually, you might want to investigate the TPT for yourself. Brian does a poor job of noting when he is changing the original. In fact he makes the outlandish claim he is citing from the 'original aramaic ' texts. No such texts exist, which makes him either deceived or a liar. Either verdict means he should not translate Scripture. One example of Brian not indicating a departure from the original is Eph 5:22. Its one of many that distort the original meaning to insert his agenda. So Dean your defence is BS and you might want to do your homework

    • @tpw7250
      @tpw7250 3 года назад

      @Dean Agnor so your problem there is you've read the misleading footnotes of mr Simmons. Its sad that he is deceiving you like this. The verb upotasso is in verse 22. Which if you didn't know, means to submit. Its in every early manuscript bar 2, P46 and B. In quotations of Eph 22 by early church fathers, they quote using the word submission. All major English translations have the word or a form of it in there. Yet, you've read the footnotes of the TPT so everyone else is wring and Simmons is right. What was it you said previously about not knowing what you're talking about and doing researching? I guess next you'll claim its not in the 'original aramaic.' Because as we all know, it makes perfect sense for the apostle Paul to write to Greek speaking Gentiles in aramaic. Just in case you miss the sarcasm, you conveniently left out a response to that problem in your reply.

Jesus did many things that we will do but there is no teaching that instructs believers that we’re able to heal as he did so we best make a separation. I’m 100% for praying for healing but there aren’t any texts that claim it’s God’s will to heal everyone, certainly not Isaiah 53 or 1 Peter 2. Just something to hopefully think about. Gandhi was a really nice and loving man, but he wasn't a Christian. I also have thought this before... There are Mormons, or Islamic people, or even atheists that seem nicer than some Christians I know, but that's not the only fruit we are to look at. Does someone faithfully preach the whole counsel of God? Do they preach Christ and him Crucified? Do they preach about sin and judgment of hell, and also the love and grace of God? Bill does not do this in the pulpit, he is saying the gospel in this video, but it's hard to find in his preachings. The man you talked to who spoke against bill, was likely trying to warn you, and there are lots of warnings against certain people, and especially false teachers in the Bible. I also thought like you, thinking we all just should be in unity as a church, but Bill isn't a brother. The fruit of his church, for example, the tunnel of fire and impartations, along with his consistent teachings, are against Scriptures. A good resource is The Messed up Church, and Fighting for the Faith. They disect the teachings of Bethel and similar churches and really.point out exactly how it's against Gods explicit commands in scripture. I hope this helps! Just know, true brothers in the Lord may not always come across loving when they are warning against false teachers. Isaiah, Jeremiah, Paul all warned against false prophets and teachers and seemed offensive. But it was done out of love for people.

    There is some good stuff here but also quite inaccurate on healing - note that the man at the Pool of Bethesda did not even know who Jesus was (as he later said to the pharisees). He had no faith and yet Jesus healed him. God is both in charge and Sovereign. As Daniel says, ‘All the inhabitants of the earth are accounted as nothing, and he does according to his will among the host of heaven ; and none can stay his hand or say to him, “What have you done?”’ Daniel 4:35. Bethel's view is far too man centered. We are NOT 'little Gods'! The Passion Version is not a translation but one man's angled commentary on the Bible. It is not based on the original text and is often 'top of the head' well-meaning thoughts. It is important to be critical of something that is misleading. This is called 'testing the spirits'!

    May I ask a question from my heart? Does Bethel believe that those who interpret Scripture as affirming LGBTQ+ people are not Christians? I believe there's an analogy to Acts 15, and also that Bethel affirms the entire ministry of women, but some Christians say, "Bethel's view is 'clearly' opposed to the Bible."
    I do not think everything the LGBTQ movement does or says is compatible with the Kingdom, but I have had joy in Jesus since I was five years old, and when I ask the Father, "Did you make me gay?" I hear, "That's not the right question - I ask you, 'What are you doing with what you receive?'" After doing my due diligence with prayer, Scripture, reason, and my journey with God, I have been in good conscience for over twenty years.
    I love and bless Bethel Church. But I hope if I ever have the opportunity to worship with you in person, I will experience the dignity of being a fellow believer in the real Jesus, even though I know we disagree (and I would affirm that Bethel's support of CHANGED ministry is harmful when folks weaponize it against people like me). Rather than say the Son of Man is a divine figure, I would rather think of Him as sinless Man empowered by the Spirit of God. This way, I can partially understand and hold out hope in His example that some day He will call me brother or friend.

      I’d recommend you take a look at Scroll publishing here on youtube. He explains the beliefs of the early Christians along with scripture which shows how far off many are today from the truth of the gospel and living word.

    Is the audio available for download? I would love to have this on my mp3 player to listen to over and over for encouragement and instruction.

      This isn't currently available on Podcasts or audio only. We are reviewing the possibility of doing this in the future though.

    I really enjoyed watching this. I am curious as the name of the Bible for children that was on the third grade level.

    "We're wrong a lot and it's okay!" Is the summary of their damage control response. Pretending to be humble.

    Great idea for the critics. The fruit of your ministry should speak for itself and the hand of God upon you ❤️

      But what fruit has Bethel yielded? A man wearing glasses with a deaf son declaring resurrection to a dead child that stays dead whilst refusing to allow for sickness. How can we square his beliefs with his fruit?

      Fruit is men and women coming to Jesus and becoming disciples. Not "feelings" not "manifestations" not business success or even church numbers.
