  • In this video I discuss the damage to the Griso, the availability of parts and whether the insurance company is going to repair or write off the Moto Guzzi. The Griso is at the dealer being assessed for repairs. While some parts are non-existent, I get lucky with cylinder-head availability. The ball is in the insurance company's court now...to write off or not!!

Parts Availibility for my 1966 Triumph Tiger 90 is far better today than for most modern machines!

Had a accident with a V11 recently, parts are also sparce or not available from factory anymore. Bike was "written off", with a buy back possibility and money up to market value. With some second hand parts, and indeed new sourced from dealers, managed to get everything complete again, and had no financial loss in the end. I'd leave the cylinder head on, put on the GPR pipe, have the dealer fix rocker cover and shifter parts, and thunder along happily.

Great story. Strangely, I have seen another Griso up for sale in the area, with an after market exhaust on it. I may reach out and ask if he'll take a few hundred for the oem exhaust too...Cheers.

Welcome to the wonderful world of Piaggio, BMR. I humbly suggest you go for the buy-back option as a write off (which it will be) & fix it yourself. There'll be a flag on the bike as a repairable write off, but you'll hv your Griso back and just as you like it!

Thanks, it's certainly an option. Wierdly, and out of the blue, another identical Griso has come up for sale in the next town over. Only ever seen one other Griso on Vancouver Island... If it comes to it, I may jump for that. Cheers.

I was wondering how you fared after the "Incident". Glad you're on the mend. As for the bike, in recent years, I've heard numerous horror stories about PIAGGIO parts and service availability, or lack there of. I'd like to try one of the MP-3 machines as a two wheeler is getting to be a bit much at my age. B UT the lack of dealers, and their bad reputation has put that plan on hold for the time being. Good luck on your recovery.

I suggest trying to get the bike written off. I got knocked off my V7 and bought it back from the other party’s insurance company after it got written off (getting picky about what got small scratches in the incident helps). With sourcing used parts, fixing it ready for the brake and light inspection myself, combined with whacky valuation numbers meant it was essentially a free bike by the end of it. Dealing with the this process in California with AAA directly as the other party’s insurance company was a dream compared to dealing with how this would have worked in the UK.

I can’t believe they haven’t got all the parts in stock absolutely ridiculous like you say 10 years is what they say would be made enough spares on the shelf and that is one of the best looking bikes I’ve ever seen never knew never heard of them lovely bike I wish you all the best you get it repaired and back on the road and your hand/arm gets better too take care

Based on an incident I was involved in about 25 years ago with an 83 BMW R100RT, the threshold for writing the bike off as salvage was that the repairs exceeded the declared value of the machine. Your dealership should have just said they had an exhaust can for it. If I trash my Chevy and the exhaust needs reolacing I am pretty sure they do not care if it is a Midas muffler and not an OEM one. If you accept the payout then the insurance company owns the bike and they get whatever they can for it from salvage. I went to wreakers and bought my bike back to salvage parts as I had replaced it with the same model. Just keep the cost of repairs below the declared value. I once had a truck appraised at 10K and an accident caused $9500 damage and body shop said it can be repaired and insurance covered it. DM me if things get sketchy with insurance and I can share some other bits of info that may be helpful.

I could already sense when I bought the bike that it would be a nightmare to find a replacement part for this model. It's absolutely unacceptable that Piaggo doesn't even follow the EU regulations of supporting it for at least 10 years. If they have something, that's also extremely overpriced. Very disappointing and not relaxed at all when I ride it. I hope that you can solve it without writing it off at the end.

The Cylinder head is the least damaged item I see in the videos.
Some sanding and paint and no one would ever notice.
The Rocker definitely needs replacing. 🤷‍♂️
It is a bit unnerving to think that 012 California is basically a dinosaur 🦕 as far as parts availability goes.
    Good luck Mate 👍.
    Shiny side ✨️ up.

I sadly crashed a 87 LeMans SE and the insurance company totaled the bike. They gave me full value. I then asked to buy the bike from them and I was charged $400. My recommendations are if they total the bike take the money and buy it back. Do not tell them you have an exhaust.

I have a griso 1100 because the factory only made spare parts for two years after production stopped . When I got my Guzzi it had a a HPE pip on it , they all so had the stock can Top £750 plus a spare seat . Feel for you I've got proximal head fracture and the clavical
Since February can't ride cycle of drive and my right knee needs a revision . When Dropped my Guzzi , parts have my the wrong side plate for the brake side . There actually different so I had one higher than the other. Took it to and welded it easy fix . Good luck

Apparently Piaggio Group maintains that old school European attitude of “we’re right and we’ll keep on doing things our way, regardless.” Which is one of the reasons the Japanese manufacturers were able to take over the auto and motorcycle industries. In other words, “what does the customer want and how can we deliver that?” If Piaggio was serious about doing business in North America they would have an adequate dealer network and a supply of replacement parts. I live on the coast of North Carolina. The closest dealer to me is in Charlotte. Three and a half to four hours away driving time, which is why I’m riding a Triumph. I was very interested in a Moto Guzzi but the fact that the dealer network is so sparse put me off. There are no dealers in SouthCarolina and the closest one in Virginia is in Richmond. At minimum that’s a five hour drive. Again. If Piaggio Group was serious about doing business here in the states, they would take their heads out of a small dark place, change their attitude and try accommodating the customer for once.

    • @BlueMarbleRider
      @BlueMarbleRider  Месяц назад +1

Agree. There are moves afoot to base a parts inventory in Colorado - as my dealer told me. But of course, Piaggio have to keep it supplied...not a given!

I have watched you since you bought the Kaw 900RS. Not a fan of the Guzzi, cant find parts now for a newer bike?? I am really sorry about that but may I make a suggestion. Sell the Guzzi and ride the Kaw, it is a better bike. May I go so far as to recommend a New Harley Sportster. More power than the Guzzi and Kaw. Very sporty. I am a Harley Bagger guy (FLHTCUI) but love the Kaw 900. i rode one when they were new in the mid 70's. (I was a passenger 10 years old) so I love your Kaw and mod's. I hope you recover quickly from your injury. Good Bless

Let the insurance company write off the bike, then get the payout and buy it back from the insurance company for few thousand, They will let you if you say its sentimental etc, then you can spend a few thou and fix it and will significantly be better off financially,
