- Homegrown mushrooms can look strange and alien. This episode walks through the steps we took for our mushrooms to go from mycelium cakes to our first flush of mushrooms. We cover the setup of a growing chamber, how to select fully inoculated mycelium jars and how to dunk and roll to set up your cakes for success.

I have a suggestion. Before you roll dry vermiculite on to the cake, bake it in the oven for a little, to burn off any possible contamination.
Grow some magic shrooms
Where we live, magic mushrooms are illegal, so we're sticking to food-quality mushrooms on this channel. In theory, if you follow the same patterns and techniques, mushrooms are mushrooms from a biological perspective...just match the strain with the media and growing conditions and you should get a flush in weeks to months depending on strain.

I switched over to colonizing in popcorn. I like this method better.
Light is a secondary pinning trigger, fresh air exchange (FAE) is first. You should of made that a shotgun fruiting chamber and throw all that other junk you used away. I was tricked by all that crap at first to.

if you just run water into the jar for a minute or two, it will cause the cake to pop out without needing to use a knife...
That hasn't occurred to us, but it seems like a great idea... We'll use that in the future!
When they are ready they can be shook loose. But floating them can be risky. Sink can be a "tricky" clean. It's a easy cross contamination risk.
@@trevertaber1137 I would suggest using a clean trash can, in a small trash bin.
you should look into uncle bens to bulk substrate produces more fruits !
Why didn't the bags create any mycelium, towards the beginning of the video?
Quick question, do your newly inoculated jars need light? Is it okay to store them in a closed shelf?(I have modified lids btw)
I'm not sure how the modified jars change conditions, but generally you want dark moderate and consistent environment for mycelium development. You're trying to simulate the mycelium growing underground
In my opinion soaking the PF cakes for so long may have been part of the problem. You might try like an hour
How exactly did you guys make your bubbler system? The polyfil didn’t mold or have to be changed? What’s at the bottom of the jar?
The bubbler came with our Midwest grow kit, so we didn't make it ourselves. That being said, it's relatively simple to put one together on your own. Take a plastic or glass jar about a pint or two in size. The rocks at the bottom are porous volcanic rocks about the size of marbles. The white stuff is a polyfill stuffing that doesn't absorb moisture, but helps to break up water droplets that are bubbling up (aerosolize). The pump is just a common aquarium pump that can be found at any pet store. Hope this helps!
did you use coconut coir at all??
I wonder if the chemicals in tap water are detrimental to the 'submerged' cakes. I think Im going to get some distilled water

You didn't show how you sterilized your Grain spawn. If that wasn't done right none of it will work.

what is in the bottom of the jar that the pump goes into?
They are porous volcanic rocks that give the water a chamber while to keep the wadding from resting in a pool of water.
They got mold because they got wet in the initial dunking when you broke it
the bit that fell off is suppose to fall off and it should be discarded.

you not supposed to using spring water instead of tap water? i heard if you are using tap water you can kill mycelium
We haven't experienced the tap water killing mycelium yet, at least nothing that is noticeable (perhaps rather than 15 days to fruit, using distilled water or non-chlorinated water may result in faster results). We'll try non-chlorinated water on an upcoming run and see if it makes a difference.

WARNING: A few years ago my second batch of PF TEK M. Mushrooms was much larger than I could use for private use...and I had read that the potency withers after awhile. STUPIDLY I froze a large batch of Golden Teachers to have when needed...>I ate about a kilo and nothing happened....

If you tap the jar on the bottom with a rubber mallet it usually pops the cake right outta there! Is say 80% of the time with no issue. Other 20% you might have to use a knife on a part that might be stuck!
