Hey guys! It's been a long time but since i recently graduated from college I thought I could use my free time to make an animation before i start working, hope you like it! This whole thing took me about a month and a half to make. :0

All the movements were so exactly right it made me so happy, literally as soon as the first move occurred I understood it wasn’t a vague themed superpower fight, it was a battle between benders
And you can already know which element they bend

Ok I'm not trying to be a hater but there's one thing that bothered me is water benders can only blood bend in a full moon

Fun fact: Zuko was the first of only two characters to bleed in Avatar: The Last Airbender. He bled for the first time in "The Avatar State" when Azula scratched his forehead with her nails. The second character to bleed was Appa in "Appa's Lost Days".

What about when Aang or Zuko get struck by lightning? Pretty sure they have quite open wounds.

Soon as I saw the lightning I was like “wait for the bloodbending”
Air and Water are lowkey the most terrifying elements in terms of how much damage they can do to a body. Good thing they’re pacifist and defensive primarily.
All 4 elements are terrifying if you think of it, water can drown you, air can throw you, fire can burn you, earth can suffocate you.

Eh, I mean, airbending can forcepully pull the air molecules out of your lungs. I'm sure that's a lotta dmg.
I dunno water is kinda situational I mean when are you gonna be conveniently fighting in a full moon
@@IsaacCampbell-dx5gf it's not just a full moon anymore though, in LoK some waterbenders like yakone can bloodbend at any time even during the day, amon and tarrlok were even able to bloodbend at daytime even when they were just teenagers, apparently their genetics had some part in it but any waterbender could probably learn to bloodbend at any time of day if they trained alot
Fun fact: Both Avatar Aang and Avatar Korra were taught by descendants of the previous Avatar. In Aang's case, Zuko (Roku's great-grandson) taught him firebending; in Korra's case, Tenzin (Aang's son) taught her airbending.

Yup firebenders take offense stances while waterbenders take defensive stances
@@Bell81208 Not necessarily that, but just the posture. Zuko and many other firebenders used rigid stances common in various fistfighting martial arts. Meanwhile, many of the waterbenders in the show had very loose grappler poses. So a firebender usually looks more stiff, while a waterbender's posture is more laid-back.
@@khajiitimanus7432 The bending styles also correspond to specific real life martial arts almost exclusively depending on what those styles represent. Aggressive quick jabs or flowing movements.

Sorry, fire, but I'm not sure you have the same versatility. Lightning is good and in ATLA seems to be an incredibly powerful finisher but water is just too versatile and could probably block Lightning without bloodbending.
Since I'm on the subject anyway, water has water, ice, healing, swamp/plant bending, and the spirit water bending in korra (though it always seemed weird to me that was a water bending exclusive ability. Seems like that should either be energy bending or have a comparable equivalent in each element). Earth has earth, seismic sense, sand, metal, lie detection (as an extension of seismic sense), and I guess mud but we could probably assume water could too, may depend on consistency). Fire has fire and Lightning, perhaps a kind of jet flight but it's a little unclear, and that might only be during sozin's comet. Air basically only has air, air spheres, and flight, though it seems relatively immune to cold (true for fire too I guess) and extremely sensitive to movements in air.

@@schlechtgut8349 I would say lighting is. In the newest series of avatar lighting isn’t even enough to do fatal damage unlike in atla. Plus it doesn’t really have good uses and can be deflected by anyone of any bending. Just my opinion ofc
i don't want to seem like a smart ass but i expected it, it went from water against fire to ice against lightning so the only possible upgrade if there was one is blood bending

When you realize that water benders are the strongest out of all the benders if they do blood bending
And even without that water benders have too much variety of attacks like Ice, water and I could see them using steam similar to fire bending and they even have healing.
Anyway don't look down on the earth benders they can do a lot of things like lava bending and mostly humans are on the ground not on the sea so that's a plus on earth bending and air bender work everywere and could possibly take the air out of the victim(Which is overpowered as hell).
But in the end I see the fire benders being the weakest of the bunch it just that the only advantage they have is lightning and laser eyes, just offensive power the other benders are show able to evade and play around.
Yeah and then the the air benders just go and take all the air out of an entire army efectivly nuking them.
@@infanos3720 Yeah a bloodbender vs a airbender that can take the air out would be a gruesome fight. Is who react first or both end up dying. The bloodbender could explode or distord the airbender and airbender could destroy the bloodbender lung.

I mean, we still haven't seen a master in Firebending in full action, the nearest one we saw was Azula, but she had the wrong Philosophy behind it that is why she wasn't at her full potential. Imagine how strong she would have become if she got a lesson from the dragons Just like zuko.

Firebenders, like Azula have been shown to produce a mild enough thrust for a downward boost midair (note that it was used to escape falling by pushing herself over to the side of a cliff in the western air temple). Any more, then it's either an effect of the comet or the avatar state. And let's assume it was possible without those sources, then why weren't we given more scenes of firebenders flying? Seems like a pretty useful skill don't you think?
Edit: also, Firebenders having the ability to fly is broken and doesn't make sense considering it being more difficult for Airbenders to attain

BLOOD BENDING on the other hand is to op it's absolute control over ones body with no way to resist it definitely should require a celestial event. Stop making it seem like those are equal abilities

This is fantastic, it shows that you've taken the time to study the bending styles for each element, along with human anatomy and movement, and the animation itself is fluid and well done. Keep up the good work :)

@Elijah S. I don't know, I think it was fine. Each bender also has a personal style along with the style overall of their bending. Maybe this one took a little inspiration from the "better not to get hit" philosophy a lot of airbenders have.

I like how despite the fact that the firebender overpowered the waterbender, water won doing what it does best -turning the enemy's power against them.
That's just plot. The firebender could just shoot lightning again when he's down from far away instead of getting close. And if the waterbender still lives, just shoot it again until he dies

I love how you captured the nature of elements in their style of fighting. Water - more defensive, attacks when it's the only way. Fire - aggressive and offensive.
PS: To all the people replying that air is more defensive than water and so on - I was comparing only fire and water, not looking at the rest of the elements :))
That's how the two typically are but it really depends on personality. In the Last Agni Kai Zuko was very defensive, he only really moved when Azula got in close. And Korra is shown to definitely be aggressive in her fighting style.
Generally I see
Water semi aggressive. Focusing on quickly dodging then attacking.
Fire:high aggression low defender, focus on fast attacks attacks.
Earth: high defence, focus on slow but heavy attacks
Air:low/near absent aggression, focus on dodging and using opponents strength against them.
@@TheAlpacalypseIsUponUs I agree with this mostly, but I want to add two things:
-Waterbending also is heavily focused on using strength against opponents. Iroh himself said that his technique of redirecting lightning was learned by studying waterbenders. This is further emphasized by the technique of bloodbending. It uses the flow of the body and turns movements against the user, just like how it forced the firebender to shock himself. I would say that water does its best to weave in and out of attacking/defending seamlessly (well, seamlessly for masters, anyhow).
-Earth often relies on waiting and listening (as stated by Bumi) to find the opportune moment to strike (which goes well with the slow/heavy attacks you mentioned).
Water isn't just defensive. It isn't just offensive either. It's about turning your opponents energy against them. Just like how water is always flowing. Now firebendinf? That's mostly just aggressive.
Well that’s because they’re based on different fighting styles. If I remember right waterbending is based on tai chi and firebending is based on kung fu.

The way the artist perfectly captures the movements for drawing out lightning, that's my favorite part. You can see the serenity of mind and soul at the apex of technique execution.

That's a cool ending. The Waterbender used bloodbending to make the Firebender mess up while bending lightning, causing the lightning to go straight through the heart.

This is one of the coolest animations I’ve seen. Bending is a very physical thing to animate, and it is done amazingly here. I would love to see a metal bending animation! Your work is awesome.

honestly I wish waterbending was portrayed like this, where they could just bend it out of thin air like firebending instead of needing a source
In theory that’d be cool but waterbending pretty much the most OP element already since they have bloodbending now I’m pretty sure they’d be unstoppable with an indefinite water supply. Though I suppose you could balance it by boosting a fire benders ability to well…put out more fire, and give earth benders the ability to make earth within water hmmmmmm
water benders can do that... kinda
they can pull moisture out of the air around them. Although it obviously doesn't work in dry environments, and there usually isn't too much water present in air unless it's somewhat near a body of water.
You know some of them can collect the water on the air and inside trees flowers but that need years of training

All benders need a source, it’s just that waterbenders are the only ones who don’t almost always have access to it. Fire and air benders always have oxygen, earth benders always have earth, but water is a little less abundant.

Ughhh you incorporated each element perfectly, the animation, expressions, and stances are absolutely astounding.
Blood bending is the most powerful thing I've ever seen.
The "problem" with fire it's that it's often generated so it doesn't really interact with heat/fire in the environment but water bending uses anything.
With enough skill a water bender could freeze the water in your cells, an heart bender could shatter all your bones (they're made mostly of calcium, it could be used to handle minerals onside your body etc but it required in insane amount of skill and medical knowledge
Air benders can just suffocate you or even stop oxygen flow to certain parts of your body including the brain, but now that I think about it, fire could control the electric pulses in your body but for all this things they would need to touch the person, it's actually insane how cruel Avatar could be.
We've never seen firebenders actually control lighting that's outside of their body the same way all other bending does. They always generated it then fired, or absorbed then fired.
There's a crap-ton of possible Firebending techniques/applications that the show hasn't touched on, maybe because a lot of them would require very fine control:
1). Bending Plasma (or condensed fire).
a. Plasma Blades (Turning your arms into lightsabers, pretty much)
b. Plasma Hydra (kind of like Katara's Water octopus thing or Carnage's (Spider-Man) tentacle thing, except with arm lightsabers.
2). Lightning
a. Cycling lightning through your body with Waterbending movements to supercharge your nerves and reflexes, reacting and moving at near-super speed.
b. Jagged Lightning Storm: Pull down a lightning storm from the clouds (similar to the Kirin technique from Naruto Shippuden).
c. EMP-style techniques that temporarily shut down nervous systems or accelerate them (perhaps targeting chi pressure points like Ty-Lee).
3). Lavabending:
a. Propelling the fire within lava to create lava bombs (or Earth Shields, if you could bend the fire out of the lava fast enough), or even a rock gauntlet gun thing that you could power with Firebending.
b. Molten Badgermole/Golem: Making a golem/shield out of lava to protect yourself from attacks, then erupting the molten armor outward.
4). Jet Propulsion augmented martial arts
a. Boosting your dodges and strikes while staying airborne.
b. Defying gravity: running on walls and Parkouring everywhere.
5). Catching and bending the flames of an explosion and shaping them into Plasma Blades.
6). Heat Haze Mirage/Clone: Bending the heat around you while fighting to create a 1-second mirage/afterimage of yourself.
I think Firebending has the potential to be just as versatile as Earthbending, but the show hasn't really scratched the surface of what's possible yet, which makes sense, given the events of the series.
Fire can increase their enemies’ body heat to burn them alive 😃

@@justsomeone6588 yeah, no, even just with bloodbendig the water Nation could have killed anyone, but if we implemented all this crazy stuff for the fire nation then air nation could have just taking the oxygen from where the enemy army was, earth nation could make a whole army fall into earth and crush them and a bunch of other things

This is amazing, I feel like water benders could “redirect” lighting back at an attacker using water as electrical conductor, as long as they aren’t touching the water.
My favorite part here is that before any elements are even thrown you can tell which is which. Water standing in a more defensive, ready, reactive stance as is the nature of water to "fits its container" as it were, and fire standing in an offensive, aggressive, almost arrogant stance, leaving their defenses down assuming that the incredible offensive power they hold will win them the fight regardless.
If water benders can blood bend, then fire benders that can lightning bend should be able to mess up your muscle movements and even your memory seeing as those functions use electricity in some way
Edit: My arguement for “lightning bend can mess you up”
1: What if they can redirect lightning in your brain/muscles, to deprive a section of electricity
2: your spine is full of electricity, it’s the highway of nerves. Spine = weakness that lightning bending can take advantage of
Earth benders could also control the human body using elements such as iron.

Bending has to be one of the coolest power systems in fiction fr. It's so simple, the four elements but with different martial arts and all the sub styles. I love avatar so much.

Yeah this just means the firebender absolutely stomps the water bender on any other night
you know, as revealed in the legend of korra, you don't need a full moon anymore if you want to bloodbend, it just takes more patience and training to master it
Actually its fair cuz if waterbenders train enough they can bloodbend anytime anywhere. (You need to watch korra) and the fighting area should be a place that all the benders can use their bending so its fair that he can pull ice spikes.
@@demirersyy In Kora they said Yakone (and his sons) were born with the ability, like combustion man, its not that any waterbender can do it if they train enough otherwise all avatar would do it to end every fight
@@shadows1199 Nope only 3 people could do it because of their insanely good genes. The chances that you will be as powerful as Amon or yakone or tarlok is 0.05%. Even master pakku a waterbender with insane patience and the most training couldn't even bloodbend in a full moon night.

This is like the average sparring session for Katara and Zuko. Minus the killer lightning and blood bending. (fav ship). Your animation is AWESOME, I've been thinking critically of how the fight scenes between these two elements would go, and I'm lucky to have discovered your video.
How can you ship them there chemistry is weak

Something i find interesting is that the firebender definitely comes across as zuko like. Not only through how he lightning bends, but also the first scene. His stance is wide and rigid similar to an earth bender. This ties back to that one scene when iroh helps zukos bending mature by explaining how insightful the other bending races are when it comes to technique. Also, excuse me if im wrong but has their ever been a similar feat to lightning and fire bending at the same time? (excluding the avatar) I sorta believed you couldnt use subclasses of bending like that
Azula, Iroh, and Ozai are all lightningbenders. Lightning is a specialized form of firebending. It’s like metalbending and bloodbending.
@@nategwright Ofc, but ( from memory) iroh cant make it out of nowhere, he can only channel it through him. My question was more so if lighting bending had been used at the same time as firebending. I'd assume not since the control needed to lighting bend (in aangs ear) was very challenging
@@baphomet1149 No, Iroh can generate lightning too. In book 2 he tries to teach it to Zuko and when he fails he decides to teach him lightning redirection which he invented himself observing waterbenders.
From what ive read or heard, lightning bending was only learned to the royal family.. when i saw LOK most firebenders could do lightning bending.. correct me if im wrong lol
@@LilMidgeto524 zuko taught it to normal firebenders and it became a more popular type of bending like metalbending, these two sub bendings being taught to commoners are the reason the world was able to advance so much in only 60+ years

What a great way to work on body shapes and the textures of their elementomancy. It was actually kind of cool that the focus of the video was the fire and the water as opposed to the figures.
Dude I was so confused when the dude shocked himself because I thought that the lighting wasn't going through him ( because iroh said that lightning bending can kill you if u don't use it properly ) but then it turned to the water bender and he was bloodbending really cool twist

The way they move is really similar to the show, this is really noticeable in the starting positions, really great job!
My only complaint is that the water bender is pretty much immobile all fight, for instance Paku was jumping and sliding around all the time but here they pretty much just stay still although a water bender should in theory be more mobile in most cases
it´s amazing that you remembered to draw the lightning bending style (the drawing a circle with the fingers thing) that korra animators just straight up ignored

I am so biased to firebending so naturally I would bitch about how unfair that was! But I know better and both elements are very strong in their own rights. Still a bit traumatised, but that means you did your job right! And amazing job you are so brilliant at making the stances and motions I wish you could do one with an alternate ending too but still amazing and so much better than I could ever do!!

This was badass! I'd love to see a air vs earth bender next. Mayne give them the pinnacle of their respective element abilities, so for earth bending, lava, metal and sand and the airbender would have full on flight.

I love the contrast between styles. Water is flow, all of it's attacks are mostly counter attacks but when it hits, it hits like an ocean wave.
Fire is more sporadic and bursts of power.
