Hey! Would love to see a level progression with all the stat points you used. I would like to try this build out on a solo tactician run aswell, thanks!
I find it hard to play Shadow Monks or Rogue when you are out in the open on the "surface", when there is so much bright sun and little hidding spots, or when there is so much light around.. i am amazed at how some ppl can hide so easily in the open
Just a heads up that offhand crossbow doesn’t actually do as much damage as it says it’s a +0 crossbow and only does the extra damage when enemies are burning
@@vitorsamuel777 Yes handcrossbow+1 is better, although you can buy ne'er misser from the halfling vendor in moonrise tower, which is a +1 handcrossbow deals force damage and gives a free magic missile.
Do you use tavern brawler combined with the strength elixir or just the strength elixir so your weapons scale through strength instead of dex? TB would probably be a bit useless for this since you aren’t attacking with your hands right?
@@cooldes4593 Yep. The build guide at the end of the video shows he's got 6 levels of Monk and 4 in Rogue. Way of Shadow and Thief for the subclasses, Savage Attacker at Monk 4 and Mobile from Rogue 4 most likely given all the movement. It's a build that definitely takes a while to pop off and does abuse the BG3's, less than stellar AI handling of stealth, but its pretty fun and very strong when done right. There's a previous video where he takes on Moonrise tower where he explains that he started Rogue and then respec'd to Monk at level 6. It's easier that way cause then you can get Monks good stuff in one go. Edit: In the comments of the other video I mean.
Do you feel like the Balanced Hands Gloves are better than Flawed Helldusk/Gloves of Crushing/Gloves of Cinder? I heard Balanced is bugged plus I'm not even sure if the Ability Modifier damage buff is better than the onhit damage of the other gloves, as much as it applies to the Crossbows.
Thanks for the build preview at the end, just wanted to ask what feats did you take. Also how does strength benefit this build? (sorry if dumb question, im new to d&d)
I took savage attacker and mobile although if I wanted to truly optimize this build, I would have gone with sharpshooter but I don't really like ranged gameplay. Strength doesn't do much admittedly apart from extra jump distance and some saving throws plus extra carry weight is nice since I tend to not be organized lol. This is my first exposure to D&D as well
@@unbidden6948 This is your first time playing something D&D related? That's incredible. I've been playing for years and your quick grasp on the rule set is insane. Any chance you could play with an in person group?
@@unbidden6948You might really enjoy shadow monk in tabletop too, considering in an out-of-combat situation you can just bamf between shadows in any given circumstance!
@@isabellagracev Well, I played a lot of DOS2 so I already have a decent understanding of the strategies / concepts in this genre. I'd be down to hop in your session if time could provide haha
great build. I am considering this but without dual wielding. Instead taking tavern brawler feat and using bonus unarmed strike or Flurry of blows as the first bonus action when needed. Flurry of blows costs a KI point but seems like it does higher damage than the off hand weapon attack? The poison can still be inflicted by the main hand weapon. Using potions for max strength. Might open up options for other main hand weapons as well but not sure. Since sneak attack is applied only to main hand weapons, don't lose any damage on that either I think. I have found tavern brawler is good for thrown weapons like the returning pike in act 1 also. I agree on the ranged being not as fun, so just one bow for me to inflict poison from range and hunters mark, etc. Useful if you have high ground against creatures that are fast but can't reach you. The 2nd bonus action from thief will be reserved for shadow step, dash etc. to reposition. If the unarmed bonus attack is not needed then have two bonus actions to use for stealth/mobility I also like Mobile and savage attacker feats. Considering 7 monk / 5 thief though to get both evasion and uncanny dodge, so will have to choose one of these if already have tavern brawler. Running as dark urge but thinking about an Astarion origin run with this build to experience his story line. Also read that he gets a damage adder late game which could be helpful as I prefer mostly solo play.
If you want the most optimized shadow monk build I believe you could either go just plain unarmed because of tavern brawler with Elixir of the Cloud Giant strength. With that you'd do explosive amounts of unarmed damage that you wouldn't need toxins. Or you could go the even stronger ranged setup with dual crossbows with sharpshooter, it does less damage than the unarmed build but it is far easier and safer thanks to its unparalleled kiting potential with the ranged + shadow step setup. I went dual wield because it is aesthetically pleasing and still offer a bit of challenge lol.
I started also playing as Shadow Monk but I taken some powerfull gloves that makes unarmed attacks more powerfull. Because of that and some abilities.... during fight I hear "Ora ora ora" sound effect from Jojo... and I never watched it xD
Noob question: how do you get 20 dex? You get 17max from character creation + 2 from the chest piece. If you use mobile and savage attacker feat you don't get an extra dex point. Where does it come from?
Does Isobel turn her back on Selune of her own free (even if coerced) will or is she entirely possessed? I'm curious about the circumstances in which she goes to the dark side. I was infuriated with her when I had Shadowheart blow a lvl 4 spell slot healing her on turn 1 and a sanctuary slot on turn 2, only for her to blow sanctuary with her remaining 10 HP and fucking the whole camp. If I ever muster the will to do an evil playthrough, I've got plans for Isobel.
If you fail to keep her alive at the last light inn, when you are attacked by True-Soul Flaming Fist Marcus, he takes her back to moonrise and she is corrupted. The last light inn and everyone in it (except Jaheira ) dies to the shadow curse and you must fight your way out.
The game tends to frame Isobel being kidnapped as natural because of how easy Isobel makes it. Her AI is terrible during the fight, I had to barr all the doors so it was only Marcus who I had to fight during it.
This fight is not fun on shadow monk, cant teleport anywhere, stealth does nothing and those undead kept healing him. Not to mention that i take one single tick of damage and darkness falls.
Better than smite after smite after smite in 1 round from a paladin. Or a turret of magic missiles from a wizard. Or frying everybody that's already wetted down with Call Lightning that can be used for 10 rounds. Everything is cheese in its own way.

I love how the Nightsong keeps getting back up, just to be knocked down again immediately

You can just use the darkness spell on the surface. Cast darkness-hide nobody can look for you, peek out to shoot them down
Just a heads up that offhand crossbow doesn’t actually do as much damage as it says it’s a +0 crossbow and only does the extra damage when enemies are burning
So the Hand Crossbow +1 is better? Good to know.
@@vitorsamuel777 Yes handcrossbow+1 is better, although you can buy ne'er misser from the halfling vendor in moonrise tower, which is a +1 handcrossbow deals force damage and gives a free magic missile.
It's good paired with the other hand crossbow that can inflict burning but even then, eh
Well here it is; and nowhere as lengthy as I imagined. I guess he would have benefited from legendary actions after all.

Can you guide this build?
anyone knows where can i find the build this perfection?
What do Meph Tieflings bring to the table for this build? Still learning the game... thanks.
Can we talk about the amount of knives in his pockets
How is he wearing the shadow of menzoberranzan? Its light armor and monks aren’t proficient. It literally gives you disadvantage on all attacks
The mulitclass into Rogue helps with that since it gives you proficiency with Light Armor.

just take dual wielding feat and helldusk gloves so you have both
hi. i don't get why you drink a giant hill elixir since you don't have the tavern brawler feat. just for the longer jumps?
Yes just for the jumping distance and inventory weight capacity and because I'm too lazy to organize items.
Need your guide
Hey can you let us know how exactly you hit 20+ on str and dex?
potion for stg. stats & chest for dex.
I love these
Where does your character get Scimitar proficiency from? Or does the game not consider the Justiciar's Scimitar to actually be one?
He took Rogue first before taking Monk, that gave him the proficiency for Scimitars
