  • You have been telling me for a long time that the idle is too high causing premature clutch engagement. You can hear the telltale pinging on these videos, and I can't hear it standing next to the machine. So listened carefully and, yes, I can hear it, sort of. Anyway, I took your word for it and turned down the idle as far as it will go.
Another issue has been occasional shaking of the mill head during cuts, especially in large logs. I'm pretty sure I got that solved.

Good video, It does sound like the clutch is making some noise but I don’t know whats causing it. Thanks for sharing.

Mechanical mysteries abound. Can't solve 'em all.

Get rid of the shaking, but adjusting the bumpers and guards each time you start up. I've found most of the shaking comes from having the back stops too far back from the back edge of the band. Causes the blade to off track.
Another season of milling begins today :)

Not sure I understand your terminology. Bumpers and guards?

Oregon Turning Symposium in March in Albany. I will be attending. Hope to visit either during or before/after. Have more wood for you.

We'll be home. You'll see some of the wood you gave me last year on my other channel soon.

The yellow jacket I caught on fire is still alive and kicking!

I was going to leave it to you in my will, but I think I'll outlive it. It's more than 25 years old now. Cuffs are wasting away, but, as long as the zipper functions, I'll keep wearing it.

I wouldn't run that standing in front of it. Easier to see but ive seen enough blades come thru the metal housing to know if that happens, you are in direct line of fire. I used to walk right beside the blade guard until a blade came thru about 18" and almost got my leg. I also had a shaking problem but it was due to some bolts that worked lose and when a wind storm hit, knocked the head off the tracks and misaligned everything. Had to take mill off the tracks and reset to get rid of it.

First I've heard of a blade penetrating the housing. What kind of mill?

Or he tightened it with a left-handed box wrench, instead of the right-handed one called for by the manufacturer... 😂
