It is important to mention that the dysfunction of apoptosis mechanisms can be key in the development of various diseases, such as cancer, neurodegenerative diseases, and autoimmune diseases. Additionally, it is interesting to consider how alternative mechanisms of cell death, such as necroptosis, pyroptosis, and ferroptosis, are intertwined with apoptosis. Necroptosis, a type of programmed cell death that occurs when apoptosis is blocked, is involved in inflammatory diseases. Pyroptosis, associated with inflammation and the activation of inflammatory caspases, plays a crucial role in immune responses. On the other hand, ferroptosis, a mechanism of cell death dependent on iron, has recently been linked to pathologies such as neurodegenerative diseases and cancer. All these mechanisms of cell death are essential for understanding the cellular processes involved in clinical pathologies.
