Personally, I work at Ollies and have enjoyed every second there. I obviously understand that every store location is going to be different to some degree. I am kind of shocked that someone would put up with a store manager being racist towards another employee. My managers are all nice and are great to be around. Appreciate you telling your story to give people a heads up.

I worked at an Ollie's in TN
One of the worst experiences I've ever had.
There was the weird culture around the team that unloaded the truck and everyone else was considered an afterthought... Including people like me that manned the front.
Most times I was alone up there, having to scan items, direct people to things (they would ask me since I was right next to the entrance) and answer the phone. On top of that I did other standards tuff like clean the front. (The whole front) restock front end caps, and clean the bathroom.
Meanwhile the stock teams would spend 90% of the time loafing around looking busy.
There would be a dozen people in the store most of the time. Two management staff, a cashier (maybe two in the early afternoon) and the rest are all in the back moving boxes around while very little product actually left the back.

However, after being constantly bombarded with their horrible and annoying commercials, there is no doubt I NEVER intend to try to shop at an Ollie's store ever again! I found out on Ollies sale day they lay off most of their workers on that day so they won't lose much money. There is normally about 7 people that work there and usually plenty of guys but on sale day they had two people in the whole building, one girl at the cash register and an alcoholic guy with thin arms to help me with a big, long carpet that I was buying, luckily I had two friends to carry it for me since I have a bad back but my friends have bad backs too. I don't appreciate Ollies doing that so don't buy anything big or heavy on sale day because you won't have much help from Ollies. It's funny Ollies turned their comments off on both Ollies vids.

I haven't had issues that you had but i am having issues with the Ollie's i work for, with payroll being extremely late, like i've been there a month and i haven't even got paid yet!!!! That's how bad that is, I'm suppose to be getting paid this Friday so i'm hoping i do, i'm not sure what the payroll person is thinking....we have bills to pay we aren't working for free here!!! You know?! I mean it's down right ridiculous, I've been very patient but i'm going to have to look for a different job if i'm not paid this Friday i've just had enough of her excuses, but like i said their all nice except for the CEO for the most part, but it just is stressful also the management really sort of sucks. Everyone is nice for the most part except the guy who is the CEO of the store, but he is rude and has way too much power. One guy that i work with is a manager and he thinks it's funny to break merchandise and throw stuff around when we were starting out unloading trucks. Tomorrow (Wednesday the 30th) we have the grand opening so i'm worried that the guy who is the CEO will be on our butts the whole time and not let us even breath....He's a real hard ass he's not patient at all!!!!!

I said "i wasn't even scheduled to work yesterday" He's like "It was mandatory so you had to have been here!" Um so he kept at me and at me and giving me a bunch of attitude so i said i'm leaving i don't need this. Unfortunately you got a bad store and district manager. Apparently the store manager had a drinking problem and thought she could hide it from everyone, but she was at the point she was too far gone to do it any longer.
Then the DM knowing what her at work behavior was like, and her level of professionalism before you revealed the racist attitude was just as bad. In my opinion he should have told her she had a choice, resign or go for rehab and counseling. Then he should have moved you up to store manager and told you, "when she gets out she is getting transferred and demoted. We can't have a racist, irresponsible alcoholic running our stores. I doubt she will improve enough to cut it, we will probably have to get rid of her by making things bad enough she won't stay."

Okay so you made some mistakes. One, focus on your work and screw everything else. Second unless what the manager says is affecting you directly, there's no reason to be an activist. Let the people that it affects go after her. There's no reason for you to get involved in a situation that has no bearing on you or your job. That might be an unpopular opinion, but in this economy you have to focus on you and make sure that you're able to pay your bills. That word is going to have no bearing on you and your own bills. 3 in a discussion there's a way to be professional and firm and say the right words without actually using curse words because that can come and get you bitten in the ass real quick. Russell Abbott well you can read through the comments from employees, that Store Manager is no longer with the company. I have no reason to “Embellish” anything, I own my own company too, so I don’t sit around just making up shit. The same stuff has been said from a ton of employees from other stores too, I guess they’re just “Embellishing” stuff up too.

I'm a manager of over 100 people. There's Always 2 sides. In my experience, the people who are always worried about what everyone else is doing are usually the a big part of the problem.

Todd Lehman congrats for you! I also own multiple company’s of my own. I’m just gonna say this cause you are obviously trying to start an argument on here, which isn’t gonna happen cause you have no clue about the company or how it’s ran. That store manager is no longer with the company, I was second in charge of that store so it was my job to be worried about things that were addressed in the video...And just so you know that individual used the N word in front of multiple associates. The company also sent someone overnight to the store after I released this to try to get the store back into store standards, because they were not where they were supposed to be....The thing that pisses me off is how people like you that don’t have a clue about anything think that you know everything, you’re clueless about this. You might wanna read all the comments from other employees from not only the store being discussed, but also other stores.

Best bet is to do your job because corporate will fire you before they fire that person. Try not to say um so much. Plan out your videos so you don't have so many pauses.

You come off ultra sensitive and thin skinned. Then when she was apparently trying to hash it out with you outside, you threw your own hissy fit.
