I find it interesting how speaking seems to be a theme in this film. Mischa who is learning another language so English is difficult for him, paulie whose mouth gets him into trouble, and Marie whose stutter and anxiety gave her trouble until paulie helped her to speak.

Since Misha is all ears for Paulie story, Paulie was willing to listen to Misha story as well. Both must have been lonely to just want someone not just to talk to but to also listen to them as well. Still that's a big ouch for Misha; "She married my best friend."

@@wiisalute The fact that you are so aware means you're getting ever closer to speaking up. Next time, u may say, "I'm a little awkward at this, but even in my fear, I couldn't let this opportunity pass by to maybe get you know you. I'm ... (your name). You could always edit that down and use less words of that helps. She may be wishing you'd talk to her.

Damn I can relate to this. I ended up crushing on a girl in college, and ended up liking her even more after she became part of my friend circle and I got to know her. She was in a relationship at that time so my feelings for her were suppressed. After she split up with the guy and I stopped dorming, we started hanging out. I knew there was a great connection between us, but I never shared my true feelings because I was afraid of losing her if she didn't feel the same way. As we continued to pretty much go on dates together, she told me it would be the last time we hung out since she was gonna start seeing some guy from her class. I showed her how happy I was that she found someone, but those news killed me on the inside. When she left and I had the whole weekend to think about what just happened, I decided to leave her a voice message confessing my true feelings. She called back disappointed. Not because of potentially ruining a friendship, but for not saying what I felt since the beginning. I felt how hurt she was, and I know she didn't want to lead the new guy on, so I didn't say anything else. This girl was just....perfect for me and I cherished the time I shared with her. My biggest mistake was never speaking up. Although I was hurt badly, I can at least say I learned from my mistakes. Rejection sucks, but not as much as being ignorant and afraid of the truth

I would add to that that yes, speaking up is important, but so to is knowing whether it is wise to do so or not, sometimes speaking up or speaking out CAN lead to undesired outcomes, so it’s sometimes best to remain silent, BUT yes, speaking up is important but as the saying goes “There is a time and place for everything”

    • @Ivannieves572

That hurts to go through it because I went through it as well as the next guy who didn't speak up for himself but it hurts even more now that she is not here in this world anymore and I never got to talk to her about it and it sucks. All for not speaking up for myself she stole my words away and boom the soccer punch to the stomach right after.

It true never be afraid to speak up relationship, work, and main other things we need communication. We're not mind reader of what a person want to say to another if we don't speak because we might miss out on something important or worth it in our lives.

he helps paulie escape the institute
    Reunites him with grown-up marie

I never really caught on for this scene when I was little, and makes sense - no accompanying visuals for the story, adult experience of love being told. But it's so poignant, I'm glad they didn't shy away from touching some meaningful points for Misha when they could have kept the movie dumb for kids.
