      Yeah man I don’t ALWAYS do that method but when it comes to more “processed” style songs I definitely like that approach because it gives a tighter more neat bed for the production to lay on in my opinion without hearing tons of sloppy takes not being cohesive. Totally just my opinion though! & thank you!

    • @aligator.martian
      @aligator.martian 4 месяца назад

      @@DustyBoles For sure! I think you could still use this same approach with small sections (instead of note by note) to get the more organic feel. You're right about the processed-style tunes. Or just breakdowns within a less-processed tune.

    good shit dude. Glad this came in my feed. My biggest takeaways were workflow things. When i'm tracking more processed sounding guitars, I'll often track 5 bpm slower than the actual tempo and edit to the grid on the actual tempo. Gives a similar unhumanly tight and mechanical feel as tracking note by note while maintaining a feel that it was fully played in one go somewhat. For this the one note at a time worked insanely well though and it's something I'll definitely have to play around with.

    how as a guitar player do you start to write drums for projects like this?

    • @DustyBoles
      @DustyBoles  4 месяца назад

      Drumnow.com the site contains loops created by drummers for this genre of music. The details are everything with this stuff. Drum fills/transitions/ghost notes. I use Drumnow loops with just about anything. It enhances the quality and my work flow. I’ve talked about it a ton but I’m just now starting to see people use Drumnow. Studying the Drumnow midi and using the midi can really Benefit you long term because you start programming more like a drummer.
      What do you need help with specifically?

      @@burneraccounthandle lol I totally can see how that sounds now reading it back! I’m not the only owner and not the one who even makes our products. We have a team that does that and I over see it, but as much as I want to take credit for all of it I can’t! There are a few of us! But yes I use the loops more often than not! Mostly because the older I get the more efficient work flow I have the more time I can spend with my family. So I’m all about getting what I need done quick especially when an idea is burning inside of me and I need to get it out quick and not program drums for 25 minutes.

    Did u program the bass same octave or octave lower as the guitars?

    • @DustyBoles
      @DustyBoles  4 месяца назад +1

      Yes! Always same octave so like F# (open) would be F# 0 on midi!

    I agree that a vast majority of metalcore these days is VERY samey, cookie cutter & mostly all around 0-12-0-13-0-10 etc... I dont mind it in parts but not constantly. I miss a band actually making riffs & groove etc... like 'Halo' or 'Now I Lay Thee Down' by Machine Head, All riffs by Lamb of God etc... Bands need to go back to writing actual riffs again, not just the same 3 strings. Its a lazy & obnoxious tbh for me ya know. (personal pref of course*)

      I speed up me jamming riffs that could take like 15 minutes so people don’t get bored. I try and find that happy medium between like someone who knows nothing about recording/DAWS and someone who is pretty experienced.. it’s tough because everyone’s different. With that said, thanks for the feedback! I will totally try and go a little slower moving forward. Thank you!
