We came to Borneo to eat and made a Street Food Adventure tour video just for you. I (Trevor James, The Food Ranger) and Ting Ting as well as Chuchu, travel to the deep back streets of Kuching, in Borneo Malaysia, filming and tasting the top street foods to try in Kuching!
Some people say that Kuching is like the Penang of Borneo. With Penang being the food capital of Peninsular Malaysia, they say that Kuching is the food capital of Borneo Malaysia. There is a huge Chinese influence in Kuching and you can see lots of Chinese street food on the streets but in Malaysian style. Hawker centers are everywhere. It truly is a magical food city. There is a ton of unique cuisine to try!
Whether eating street food in Penang, Kuala Lumpur Street food, or here in Kuching having Kuching street food, it's all good and varies in flavor but you MUST come to try the street food in all of these locations! In Peninsular Malaysia, you can find Chinese street food, Indian street food, and Malay street food all over the place. Here, in Kuching, it's more Chinese street food and Iban, Bidayuh, and Malay street food. All of these come together to make Malaysian street food some of the best in the world!
We are bringing you for a huge Malaysian street food tour as well as a full-on street food ADVENTURE into Kuching's liveliest street food markets, street food alleyways, and deep food streets.
On our trip to Borneo, we found and ate a ton of cheap (NOT EXPENSIVE) and delicious street food. We couldn't stop eating all the street food that we found. This is one place in Asia you have to visit to eat the street food!
Asian street food is without a doubt some of the BEST street food in the world, and since we live in China, eating Chinese street food all the time, it's very easy and fun for us to travel overland or fly to Southeast Asia (places like Vietnam, Thailand, or Vietnam) to try the best street food when we like.
We shot this street food tour for you, eating a ton of tasty Malaysian street foods. Here are the addresses for the street foods, for your next visit to Kuching, Borneo, Malaysia:
-Hawker Center Sarawak Laksa (BEST broth in the world?)
Chong Choon Cafe 泉春茶室
275, Jalan Chan Chin Ann, 93100 Kuching, Sarawak, Malaysia
-Sarawak Style Kolo Mee (SO DELICIOUS!)
Oriental Park Kolo Mee
Gertak Lane, 93000 Kuching, Sarawak, Malaysia
-Huge Malaysian Borneo Style Seafood Feast in a local village!
Bako Seafood Restaurant
Jalan Kampung Bako, Kampung Hijrah, 93010 Kuching, Sarawak, Malaysia
-Pre-dinner chili crab snack
Topspot Food Court
Jalan Padungan, 93100 Kuching, Sarawak, Malaysia
-Kueh Chap delicious rice noodle sheets in a dark herbal broth with tons of pork belly and organs!
This is in the Hawker Center directly across from the Shang Di temple on Carpenter street, you can't miss it!

HUGE THANKS to ExpressVPN for offering all Food Ranger viewers 3 months free and 49% off their yearly package using this link: ExpressVPN.com/Thefoodranger . Travelers need ExpressVPN to stay safe online and to unblock any site. I personally use it for Netflix, even while at home in Canada, but also while traveling to unblock content and episodes that are geoblocked, and I also use it for security, because airport wifi and hotel wifi is often very insecure, leaving my data vulnerable. By connecting to one of their servers around the world, it’s just like my computer or phone is in that location, and all data sent while connected to their VPN is secure, safe, and private from others to see, so I know that my data won’t be hacked or looked at by others. Thanks so much for watching, and we have tons more videos coming up for you! Please leave me a comment below letting me know what you thought about this episode, thanks so much!!!

i know its not a big deal but i REALLY appreciate that you guys put subtitles in your videos, not everyone does or even cares but you guys do *THE ABSOLUTE MOST* for us
Thanks so much Aqsa! Do you mean the English captions? Or the subtitles from Chinese to English?
The Food Ranger the english captions! I wanted to show my friend your videos but she is partially deaf, she can read most lips but the captions help so much!
The greatest Food Travel RUclipsr yet again continues to impress me with his mouth watering and savory content. Please keep up the good work! As always, you never disappoint!
Love ya Trevor!
Man, I love all these videos. This was a great one. Loved seeing Chu Chu and Ting's interactions with Trevor. Upvote for sure- make sure everyone upvotes to show Trevor more support!
Thanks so much buddy!!!
Trevor, I'm so glad you are back. We've missed you. Well wishes of good food, great health and peace from Saint Charles Missouri USA.
Loved the cover!! Really descriptive and subtle.. one thing, it wud be great if we can have separate ratings by all (Ting Ting, Trevor, any other guest invited).
What a job you have Trevor.. travelling to amazing places eating delicious food with 2 beautiful girls... even my vacations aren't that good lol.
Ting is a keeper. I just adore her and committment to working with James
Kolo Mee is addictive af, but diffrent store have different taste. Some are mildly sour and some are super sweet. I like the combination of sour and sweet.
To those who are wondering why are those people speaking mandarin, its because they are Chinese. They are Malaysian born chinese( might be the 2nd or 3rd generation malaysian chinese). We have alot of chinese here in Malaysia because alot of our ancestors came from China years and years ago. Therefore, for most Chinese here in malaysia, mandarin is our mother tongue as well as our first language.
Of course, we speak different kinds of dialect too such as Hakka, Cantonese, Hokkien, Teochew, Foochow etc depending on which part of China our ancestors are from. Even though Malay language is the national language, but Chinese would only use them to communicate with the Malays(race).
People in kuching only speak Mandarin to foreigners. We speak Hokkian and Hakka
OMG, the "snacks" of prawns and crabs looked absolutely amazing.
Love your videos man😄✌🏻️ keep up the good work.❤️❤️
ting's reaction at 16:50 is tai hao le! many ppl saw chu's lipbite, but all i was focusing was the chilli crab XD the crab was just fantastic!
Thanks for coming to my beloved Borneo land~~
thank you for making my depression easier. love watching your enthusiasm. big thanks from sweden!
Smoke Afghan hash for depression.
Nice video! Would be nice though since you are in Malaysia if you went to Malay/Indian restaurants also so people can see the mix of the food in Malaysia and not just the Chinese restaurants.. Cheers and safe travel!
Can you go to Korea? Or Singapore!! Luv ur videos~ ^^
rr He should try out Philippines too
Greetings from Belfast, Northern Ireland...I have just subscribed 4 days ago and watched almost every one of your videos. They are just FAB and I love the MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM sounds. One question: ''HOW are you not the size of a house?!!!!!'' You eat so much yet stay so slim!! Wel Jel!
+TANYA MAI Johnston thanks so much for subscribing! Haha I'm so happy you enjoy our videos!
Ta for replying. The food in Ireland is boring as crap but if you and the beautiful Ting are ever over here someday, we shall do a tour for free!! I'm part Chinese, Vietnamese and when I have won the lottery I shall fly over to China and say HI! BTW I love your happy energetic enthusiastic vibe, the filming skills are fab and I wish you well and hope you get to 2 million subscribers. You're a good example of a genuinely down to earth friendly You Tuber.
TANYA MAI Johnston well that was a lie
Awe....he served ting ting first before himself. True gentleman
um, no... he is not. he doesnt care of them on street, he takes everything first, etc etc.
Amazing experience of a life time! Thanks for sharing!! Ipoh, Malaysia has lots of hidden gems known to the Chinese Malaysians. Definitely worth the food venture!
guys please don't disrespect their friendship....just focus on the food
Haruka Mier, STFU! Hahahaha
barf
Damn perfect time for watching this video before my takeout comes, Nice videos keep em up!
NICEEE
So glad that Ting Ting is sort of opening up more!
Yuhuuuuu proud to be sarawakian.... Tq Trevor hope u enjoy ur vacation in our homeland.. 😂
Thanks for coming to malaysia. Glad you enjoy the food here.
oh yeah~this is my hometown! I'm very surprised that Trevor can located the very famous kolo mee that hidden in the corner of Kuching~
Ohh I hope your Kuching trip isn't over! You only covered the Chinese/Sarawakian side of Kuching. You have to cover Nasi Ayam Penyet, Nasi Ayam Bakar (different from Indonesia and Peninsular Malaysia), Lamb Katok, Teh C Special (3 layered iced tea with special special palm sugar), Mee Kolok, Pisang Goreng Cheese, Kek Lapis, Gula Apong Ice Cream.
All I have mentioned are must tries for people from Peninsular Malaysia. Even for Malaysians these are unique new experiences.
+Andrew Ng we have one more jungle experience video coming up! There was too much food to try! Kuching is such an amazing place!
If i were u, i wont. Most restaurant in kuching use cheap quality ingredients, such as cheap rice. Gula apong ice cream is a meh.. just cheap quality ice cream with gula apong flavor.
Food ranger, can you introduce the new CameraMan to us? TingTing doesn't seem to record recently
Thanks Trevor for visiting my hometown. Watching this video all the way from Australia really makes me miss the food there. Oh my... So hungry now! It is simply like a virtual tour back to my hometown.
No other food vlogger makes me smile anytime he eats anything. This guy loves food from his heart.
Haha thanks a lot buddy, thats so great to know!!
Do people realize how disrespectful these comments are to Ting Ting? I'm sure she doesn't like to read comments about people "shipping" chu chu and Trevor.
have you ever heard about the internet?
Trevor!! I didn't know you were in Kuching!! Please do tell me when you're going back ^-^ I'd love to show you around the more "outskirts" area of Kuching. There are a lot of other food as well here :)
Ting looks like my crush from middle school whom I never saw again. She's beautiful.
Just watch this video today. Im proud became the one of the resident in kuching area 😁
Awesome! Great one! Love the vid including Ting and Chu!!!
Who's filming? ^^
The Food Ranger Hope you hit 1 million subs soon! Love watching your videos, bcuz I love to eat! Lol
Hey Tony, thanks so much buddy!!
Hes made excellent progress since then
4:36 best line starts here
no hate comment here. but a suggestion, if ting is to be featured more on the videos then i guess she should say more instead of just one or two words? give more comments and suggestions. maybe improve on her hosting skills? chuchu is good, she is definitely very camera friendly and enthusiastic but she gives her comments all in mandarin instead of english. its not bad, its still ok but still maybe she can mix it up a little? trevor, no comments bro, freaking love your videos and hosting skills! keep it up! i look forward to every video you post up. thanks
+Ayappa Subramaniam thanks so much Ayappa!
This is a good constructive comment.
I think if chuchu is going to get some English lines, they should be about the location or where the food rangers are going. Her energy is good for hyping up the place. For food comments, it will be more natural for her to speak in her native tough.
If tingting doesn't feel comfortable on camera, don't force her to do it. Please pay no mind to drama instigating comments. Maybe you can interact with tingting when she is holding the camera while you are eating. Some food and travel shows that I like have great chemistry between the host and the camera man/woman. Maybe you can try that with tingting.
Ayappa Subramaniam I
I watch for the food ranger, nobody else.
+ 1
At last!!!! I have been waiting for a new vid and here it is! Keep uploading please...😋
finally you came to my hometown, tai hao le! hope you enjoy it.

Great video as usual such a positive guy ! Living a dream Traveling the world trying different foods that's living !!
Not Borneo Malaysia...Borneo are consist of Sarawak.. Sabah and Kalimantan(Indonesia)..u have to say Sarawak Malaysia so other ppl would not confused or Sabah Malaysia..

L . Setsuna Here we go again
L . Setsuna you are correct. But, most sabahan prefer prefer sabah and sarawak is out from malaysia.

Trevor...I watch you for years including a lot of the other Food Vloggers...but you are the best one! Your refined manners are impressive. Your serve the women first before diving in. You open doors for them. You let them walk ahead of you. Aside from the many outstanding elements in your vimeos, your well mannered ways are admirable!
Shoutout to all the Kuching people! THANKS TREVOR FOR COMING! Love ya. Appreciate ya.

I like it when you guys eat together and somebody else films. I like to see Ting's and Chou Chou's reactions too. You should do this style filming more often and include Chou more. I love your videos Trevor

Hi Trevor I used to watch all your videos and they're really helpful like what to eat and where to eat while you're traveling in Asia. I have a small request if possible that can you make a video featuring only vegetarian food so that it will help to vegetarians also that where to eat good veg food in Malaysia.
