Via this timely reply of mine some 3-4 years after the fact; I proclaim this band as a "stand alone"; rather than a common "co-opter". I am also a very large Joy Division fan as well, as if it matters.

Joy Division is an influence certainly. The shoegazers are also and influence certainly. Still, this sound certainly stands alone.
