Exactly ! Get all the info about the lighting your considering and take a picture. Order it online. Will save you a lot of money doing it that way. I have even called the manufacture directly before and saved even more.

It’s kind of interesting you keep buying things for a home you haven’t started to even remodel. I think sometimes when you get in the home you can see better what is needed. But that’s how I work. You can always sell them if you don’t use the.

We wandered in there to buy lights for our house and we wandered back out with our eyes just glazed over. Mike is right about the need for a name change. I love it. The light store down at exit 23 has a beautiful selection right until you look at the price tags

A contractor friend of ours always recommends that when building a new house, you just install cheaper lights from the local DIY box store, then once you move in and start decorating the house, you can easily replace them with a more suitable upscale version as your budget allows. When we built our house 11 years ago we used (too many) super cheapo simple lights.
It takes intention to replace them with style but I have complete confidence Megan can do it!
I love living in the Netherlands, where I moved nearly five years ago from the US, however when we were putting in a new kitchen in our renovated house I so missed the beautiful choices in lighting, cabinets/storage options, countertops and stoves that were available when we remodeled our kitchen in the US back in 2007. I am really enjoying following you around as you search for things for your new kitchen.
All the lighting is pretty, and your choice for the kitchen will look totally Parisienne by what decor you choose to go with it. It’s lovely simplicity will make it versatile to match any style now and in the future. I also love checkered floors! Your talents are amazing, and no matter where you call “Home Sweet Home” will be beautiful ~ just as that scarf you wore with your red jacket; stunning! 👍🥰❤️👏🏻

Considering how beautiful Megan has decorated the rental house and her eye for decor,colors i know her re modeled home will be soo cool-I love her style and the creamy off whites,nude tones are soo pretty with natural wood or stained

I love the black checkerboard with the nushroom color! I have a "table" that looks like the one in your design except it is actually a large desk with a drawer - just another Avenue to go down for searches. This is so exciting! Getting closer and closer!

Lighting allowance on new builds is a joke. Not attainable. Megan you're so creative. Install the cheapest fixtures you can. Then take your time and thrift or repurpose your finds.
Very smart. I’ve done that before and I just take my time. If you don’t rush out and buy lots of new furniture you can just slowly add treasures as you go along and your house will tell your story.
I honestly don't even really understand how this is part of the build. Shouldn't one be able to decorate how one pleases after the build? But I don't have a clue on how it works to have someone build a house for you anyway. In Europe when you move into a house, there are often just the electrical wires sticking out because people bring the lamps with them.
I'm currently building a campervan together with my husband. We dream of building our own home one day but we are very much into a more natural way of building and recycling materials and so on. Building isn't that hard to do yourself if you don't want all the modern stuff.
Love the kitchen design choices! It's cohesive yet eclectic. I loved shopping for lights for our new home, so many choices!

In love with your kitchen plan and mood board. Lights on top of island would be your focal point. As for the sink, I would install simple recessed down lights only, because any pendant in that space would Bloch your window view and steal the thunder from the island lights.
Love the checker board floors and all your colours in the kitchen. Your thrifted plates will look fabulous in there can’t wait to see it all. I really liked the large round copper looking lights and they were big enough to only need two?? So many great lights at the thrift stores..amazing

Hello Knorpps! Meagan, love your decorating style! You probably know this but I thought I would mention it in case you didn’t, in regards to lesser priced lights that the glass shades aren’t exactly frosted, hardware stores carry a frosted glass spray that might give you the frosted finish you’re looking for, I haven’t tried it myself but have seen the spray cans when looking at the regular spray paint. Can’t wait to see how your house comes along!

I’m constantly amazed by your thrift stores. My local goodwill has broken items & used items from Dollar General/ Dollar Tree that are the same price as they would be in those stores brand new. The last time I was there a woman showed me a flowerpot (marked $9) that she’d just bought for $3 at Lowes. 🥴

Great video. One thing I forgot to consider when we chose lighting for our house is the cost of replacement bulbs for the fixtures. Some bulbs are quit costly.

When we looked at light fixtures two decades ago, I didn't know I needed to know the wattage of the wiring for each fixture in the house, and also to know the wattage of every fixture. I wound up buying pretty fixtures that couldn't deal with higher wattage bulbs and so had a bit many lights that were pretty but not bright enough for what we needed.
I had the checker floors for 15 yrs and couldnt find right match for rugs and decor. Things just would never go well. Id switch things out over and over kept feeling like I knew it was the checker giving me the what wrong here but I loved the checker. We got wood flooring and it all works no matter what decor I switch out. I love my wood floor.

Megan- I thought you bought some vintage lights awhile back. Copper ones that you were going to patena for the kitchen ( I think they are at the warehouse) Has your style changed or are you going to put them somewhere else? Also- love the white globes. They hide dust too. Clear glass light covers show ever drop of dust!
They make frosty glass spray paint you can use to fix the lights that aren’t frosty enough hahahahaha. 😃😃😃

Find a flea market. I find some fantastic lights. I also got a chandelier at the Williamsburg Restore. Ten bucks. I am going to spray the bronze black. Don't forget the builder will give you a lighting budget too.
IKEA has some nice lights for less than lighting stores. Even the big box stores have lot of choices. Even more in their online shops. A Few cieling fans are great especially in the late spring and early fall but then hot flashes are frequent and not fun.

My home has some furniture from my mom and dad from the 1940s. So my style is similar to style (comfortable). If I like it I will buy it. Keep in mind, how you clean them too when you're looking around. When I remodeled my Kitchen and Bathrooms, I went to Habitat to buy my Light fixtures at a much better price.
Meghan you should have been an interior designer. You are so talented. Sooooo talented. U have a natural flair. That’s a rare gift. Not a lot of people have the talent to decorate their homes. They have to hire designers. That can get expensive. 😶

i heard from another youtuber that was building, there is a pocket light that is designed that you have to replace the whole light fixture to change the light not just the light bulb so beware of that too. ( very odd light fixture). Love watching as you go it really helps the rest of us too. Thanks so much.
That is getting more common. We build 1 1/2 years ago and it was a problem especially in bathroom lighting and not just can lights.

Megan if you dont want the glass bulb covers to be shiny , you could diy it, and get Armour etch , and you can frost those globes yourself.

Great video! I’m in Ca. So not sure if you have “ habitat for humanity “ stores where you are. But you can purchase doors windows facet’s, lighting etc used at budget friendly prices. They often have older things like your looking for. Love watching how your dream house is coming together.
My tip: pick lights that are easy to change the lightbulbs.

I saw that black counter you liked in a movie with Diane Keaton and Jack Nicholson Something’s Gotta Give! It was a beautiful counter and kitchen. Look for images of that movie and you’ll see it. I love the counter now. As usual I don’t see your vision until the project is over and I’m always blown away!
