As a junior olympic swimmer in the 11-12 division I state that the mono-fins (Fins that connect your feet) are meant for butterfly. (Where you bring both arms out of the water at the same time) and the normal fins (Cheaper ones) are mean for freestyle and backstroke. Mono-fins actually slow you down if you use them properly, and normal fins boost you by over 23 seconds if used correctly.
