Today's video essay analyses and reviews the meaning behind Hayao Miyazaki's Spirited Away and how it is more than an animated masterpiece. It has an incredible depth when it comes to teaching children how to deal with a frustrating and seemingly hopeless situation. Sifting through these precious life lessons, I realized they make the film even more beautiful than it already is. Please watch the entire video to see the meaning behind Spirited Away!
In this animated feature by noted Japanese director Hayao Miyazaki, 10-year-old Chihiro (Rumi Hiiragi) and her parents (Takashi Naitô, Yasuko Sawaguchi) stumble upon a seemingly abandoned amusement park. After her mother and father are turned into giant pigs, Chihiro meets the mysterious Haku (Miyu Irino), who explains that the park is a resort for supernatural beings who need a break from their time spent in the earthly realm and that she must work there to free herself and her parents.

@@moonlightzchannel8277 Haku does tell his plans to Chihiro before they depart. He says he is going to stop working for Yubaba now that he got his name back. As for whether they reunite, this is left ambiguous. I think it doesn't really matter. What matters is that all characters learned something from their adventures and are finally free to live their lives on their own terms. That being said, I'm sure that hypothetically they do meet in the future because well there's nothing stopping them from meeting. It's just that it isn't relevant to the story or the message of the story that's why it's left unresolved.

I just wish that sometimes I can fade into the world in spirited away and forget reality. This video is truly inspiring and although I long for my life to be like a fairy tale where there is a happy ending and true love, this showed me that reality is not what you always think it is. I just watched spirited away for the first time not long ago and I'm instantly attached. The story, amazing. The art, beautiful. I just wish that the spirit world were real so I could go there sometimes.

I know your comment is from 3 years ago but I just wanted to offer this perspective about the spirit world.... although she sometimes forgot her problems and who she was, that act of forgetting was always presented as dangerous. Her reminder of her identity was the note from her friend, which was also a reminder of her greatest pain in the real world. We can grow out of our struggles but only when we do so intentionally. Escaping problems doesn't make them go away, and the movie argues that escaping them actually makes them less fixable as time goes on.
I empathize though with the longing to forget sometimes. Good luck out there.

I think this was a fantastic video, loved it. There's so many life lessons to draw from Spirited Away and I think people tend to get so caught up in all those film theories and everything else, that they forget them. Spirited Away is very much a film about life and about a little girl growing up, learning how to navigate life. It's interesting you said about the real world as an alien world, too. I recently did a video myself talking about the world here feeling alien because that's how the wider world feels to kids when they're forced to grow up/enter the world of work etc.
I really like your editing in this video too. I'm honestly shocked you don't have more subscribers, but I empathise 100% with the struggle and I've just given one extra subscriber.

The doctor who saw me was so kind, her voice so soothing, her touch so gentle--all things that I had been missing, especially the warmth of another's touch--that I felt so much better after that. I remember there would be always every Saturday and Sunday they would give us free movie on tv and me and my family would watch it since my parents would be off from work and this movie came while watching this and at the end I cry so much at the ending I was like 9 years old that time I cannot control my emotions because I was teens and I also remember this movie become my favorite and I immediately went to computer and search of this movie again and again and finally find it and I watch it many times and then again in Sunday Another movie came was moving howl castle and I watch it again it’s become my favorite and I again searched in RUclips and google then realized that all of my favorite film was by same author I used to remember how I used to copy the movie name when I was kids because since I was bad at studying and I would always took piece of paper and write the name of the movie and I end up watching all of this film that was such a good memory I still remember how I could smell food by watching howl frying eggs and bacon and I remember how I badly wanted to try noodles because it’s look so delicious and the food in sprited away I wanted to try so badly and the fact I have such a high respect for Miyazaki is because he is not like other author where other authors sexualised innocent girls I used to love anime back then now after watching this I feel really disgusted to say that the author always make underage girl and make Male 30 or 40 years old to have relationship in any anime so this is the anime why I have stopped watching anime due to this reason and people who still haven’t watch Miyazaki movie please watch it because you won’t regret it infact when you watch his movie the things is that he doesn’t do only movie but he also make fans heart and soul move like you are also in part of the movie this so why he is my favorite author until now I wish he make one last movie then I will finally be in peace and thank you Miyazaki for the best childhood memories you created for me

I had a crush on haku but now I'm over him. Btw this is not important but I have to say I LOVE HOWL'S MOVING CASTLE AHH 🌹🤗💕💗💖✨.
This video needs MORE views. I feel like the unrated videos on RUclips are the better ones. Also haku is a very patient one, he's someone who is easy to talk to and that's just what I got from watching Spirited Away.

This movie is ethics, philosophy, human sinfulness, . . .etc.
    Everything is there
    One example
Sen and Noface board a train to the 6th station
    Outside scenery
    Departure station(nothing)

    One house (beginning of society)

railway crossing(sound like Air raid warning siren=war)

    Neon town(Reconstruction and prosperity)
    There are many more.

Otalib, in the second part of the movie, its ending was unacceptable. I want to understand why Haku did not go with Chihiro, even though I remember the name of her uniform, and why tell her not to look back while she is going back to her world
