    In this episode we head to one of our new favorite beaches, Playa Ventanas. Playa Ventanas is located in the south of Costa Rica near Ojochal. There are 2 caves here that the waves flow through and at low tide you can enter the caves! Then we head to Uvita beach in Parque NAcional Marino Bellena. This is where you can walk out to the whale tail, as you walk there are beaches on both sides. Be sure to come at low tide. It was $7 to enter the park and kids under 11 are free. Enjoy!

    Great coverage of some of the classic spots in the Uvita area 👍🤙gracias. That concrete pillar out there at the whale tail was once used to measure the tide according to one of the local guides I asked about it. I agree Ventanas has it’s own cool vibe (especially during the low season) and definitely one of my favorites.

      Thanks, ya we enjoyed Ventanas and will definitely go to just hang out there one day and chill with the locals. Thanks for the clarification on the pillar, it if very out of place. You are in next weeks video, and the week after!

    In the past, I've stayed several times in the Uvita area and, until this video, I had never before heard about these caves at Playa Ventanas. Thanks so much for giving me just one more reason to come back to Costa Rica, my home away from home in Canada.

      @TheDufresnes I hear ya. We have chosen CR as our retirement base, so we are exploring all parts of this beautiful country.
      Samara again(this winter)for 10 days than La Fortuna for 5days.
      Can't wait to be back

    I love Playa Ventanas for the size and the unique aspect of the caves, its also in a secluded bay, and its away from the town, and all of the vendors as well.
    At Marino Ballena National Park, that park has 4 different entrances throughout the Uvita/Bahina area, and the walk on the beach out to The Whale Tail section from that main entrance you came in is quite far. I think I clocked it at 1.5 kms out to there, and you're exposed to the sun the whole way out and back, unless you use the trails. So slap on the sunscreen and bring lots of water, or coconut water to keep hydrated.
    That area is also where most of the Whale Watching tours are located and they launch their boats right off of that first long beach area. Nice drone shots at both beaches.

    • @TheDufresnes
      @TheDufresnes  Год назад +2

      Thanks, it was nice to get the drone up again! Ya it's rediculous how they drive tractors and ATVs on the beach which is actually illegal here and its dumb how they charge to use the beach.

    • @donmorrow1923
      @donmorrow1923 Год назад +2

      @@TheDufresnes Most of those tractors haul boats out to the water, there is a practice to harvest the coconuts from the palms so they don’t bonk people on the head. 🌴🥥😫
      As a resident you only pay about $1, but I agree.

    • @TheDufresnes
      @TheDufresnes  Год назад +2

      I know what they do, but they leak oil on the beach, citizens shouldn't have to pay. A rule in Costa Rica is that every beach is accessible to Costa Ricans and charging them kind of goes against it. Also I didn't see anything specifically different to our free beaches in the north.

      Your right. All beaches in Costa Rica are supposedly open to the public.
      The only other beaches I can think of is the beaches inside of the Manuel Antonio National Park, but there are some great free beaches in that area as you’ve documented.

    The whale tail is huge. A lot bigger that what you would expect.
    They are trails inside the national park too...

    • @TheDufresnes
      @TheDufresnes  Год назад +2

      Ya it's so big! That's cool there are trails too. We honestly think it's ridiculous that they charge everyone to go on the beach.

    Chris I love your videos and I can honestly say they are one of the most helpful resources that is leading my wife and I to come to Costa Rica for the next year to see if it is where we want to move. One minor comment about your videos that I know you already put so much effort into. Would you consider using cross dissolves instead of jump cuts for your transitions? It just make the progress through the video so much smoother IMHO. Keep up the great work.

    Great video thank you I'm from Canada and coming to Potrero for the month of Feb 2024 with an eye to relocate. Time to start doing what I promised myself when retirement hit which was this year. Kudos to you and your family for doing it! Any chance your sea containers are available for a long term rental?😊

      That's awesome, congrats. We don't really do long term, we do more so in May and June as well as September, October and into November where we offer a discount off of our nightly rate.
