    I Come from a generational US Army service family. None are never down to nerd out with me. You’re channel is very cool and refreshing also cool to see a marine just being a nerd. Any ways I subscribed and will continue to watch your stuff.

    Just discovered your channel while cruising around RUclips. I'm a big war gamer, and I'm always looking for good solitaire games to play since I don't have a ton of friends where I live. Your video is really well made, articulate, and gave a lot of information on the games themselves. I plan to check out all your other vids and now you have a new subscriber. Thanks for your service as well; My Dad was a Marine in 68' and there was nothing more he was more proud of than being a Marine. Keep the videos coming!.

    The concern I have with apps is in 5 years or 15 or 20 is that app Still going to be out there working/supporting the game. In this age of obsolescence, things not lasting very long, I can not spend a ton of money on a game that MIGHT be unplayable in the near future. Good vid. Subscribed✓

      Heck, the app doesn't work right now! I tried two games of UBoot, and the app crashed both times [ruining our game as it didn't save progress at the time - they may have an update to fix this]. I sold the game immediately thereafter.

      You're thinking hardware when the app is software. Yes, your cell phone will be obsolete in 3 months and will not be supported in as little as a year. But software lives forever. The app is out there...that means it will be out there forever. There is no need for the developer to "support" the app once it is in a usable state. I can play 35yo video games on my cutting edge PC because there are emulators that allow me to do that. Backwards compatibility is always available. Believe me, the physical components of the game will be dust LONG before the software disappears.

    Thunder in the East? Fantastic pick! The Middle Sea will be amazing, I dare say.
    When I built my wargaming magnetic wall mount, I made is specifically with TitE and Mid. Sea dimensions in mind.

    Gimpy: I'm sort of new to your channel, having watched Stuka Joe, NEH, Marco, TPA, and HAMTAG for awhile. Your five solitaire games are strong and intense and I can't argue with any of them. I watched the Thunder in the East KS, and love Frank Chadwick (Who did Space 1889, one of my favorite games ever!!!), and yet couldn't pull the trigger! First, I have SO many Eastern Front games already ( AH-- Stalingrad, Russian Campaign, Panzer Gudarian, PanzerBlitz, DVG's card game, The Hell of Stalingrad, a giant bag game, Memoir 44, ... is that enough?), so yet another East Front game (did I mention I backed the Combat Infantry East KS?) almost had me on the floor. It was also pretty expensive and I have no table big enough for the board. I think the game is genius, but looking ahead to the full conclusion of this system, I would NOT be able to really utilize it well enough.*** I live around San Francisco, so between MTG and the Euro Gamers, I have no idea how many war gamers are within playing distance. I love MTG (the deck building) BUT... I'm not finding many war gamers here. SO... I play solo a great deal, which puts me in Saint Dan's games (DVG). *** I'm eager to try "Fields of FIre". I've seen enough reviews to put it on my BUY list, after "Armageddon Wars", and "Shiloh" by Columbia Games. *** You sound pretty heady, so I'm curious... what do you think about "Warfighter" by DVG? It's easily one of my "desert Island" games, one that I find almost infinite re-playability with. SECOND... have you tried any of the Legion Games?... like Maori Wars, Commanceria, and King Phillips War (Rivers of Blood??? from Compass)? I'd love to know what your "Go-to" games are? Mine are PanzerBlitz, Panzer Leader and Squad Leader (Operation Tannhauser is right up there as well). ANYWAY... you have my attention, so keep up the good work! I'm STILL looking forward to a great game about the Mongol Hoard, The Russian Civil War, Simon Bolivar's liberation of South America, The Spanish Civil War (got four already--- looking for a diamond here!), and the perfect ice hockey game (along the lines of Status Pro Football, Baseball, and Basketball and Titlebout). Have you looked at the new KS game A COMPANY OF HEROES on KS? It's going to financially break me, but DUDE, they're throwing in the buildings as well!!!! IF you'd like to chat... shoot me a line at arkangel2759@juno.com... be happy to toss around some games and stories.

      Thanks for supporting the channel! Always great to be compared to some of the big hitters like Stuka who got me into the hobby. Some of the games you spoke about (DVG and Legion for example) I have already covered some of their stuff, especially Warfighter.
      Bit of advice on Thunder in the East. The first scenario can be played mainly on 2 out of the 4 map pieces reducing the required footprint. Still quite large but not as daunting.

      For Russian Civil War there is as simple as Soviet Dawn (former VPG, may get reissued) in States of Siege series, to Reds and the wickedly complex CDG Triumph of Chaos.

    Great vid. I'm glad i found your video as Picket Duty, is just the game i was looking for. Thanks
    Note: I'm on the fence with Uboot due to the app. Not for purist reasons, because of my concern with any app driven game.... will the app still be on the app stores after a few years?

    • @thegimpygamer

      Uboot should be in the store for a long while, but of course I can't promise that as I am not affiliated with the company

    Excellent list ...don’t agree with everything but horses for courses ...most important thing I felt you went through the games very well ...With respect to EA: A I had serious counter print issues and Compass sent me a full replacement set at no charge ...but I feel their counters are not the best and could be just a little thicker given their games price point ...

    Enemy Action was so good in so many ways, but that chit system drove me insane one too many times and I had to get rid of the game. I had some late-game mega-combat that involved pulling something like 13 chits and the net result was that nothing happened and my head popped a little bit and now my hats don't fit the same anymore.

    • @thegimpygamer

      Maybe it was just me, but Enemy Action Kharkov felt a little less swingy like that. Like it had more punch to it. Might be worth taking a look if you like Ardenne but want something a little different

    Blackstone Fortress has 3 expansions. Dreaded Ambull which is released, Traitor Command which is due to release soon and just announced Escalation which will probably be several months away.

    • @crushingit5128
      @crushingit5128 5 лет назад +1

      yeah but are any of them expansions that add more modules or gameplay mechanics? Like you KNOW GW will add more models. Thats an easy cash grab for them. But what about gameplay mechanics?
      I want to get BSF as well, but GW, to me, is the ElectonicArts of the boardgaming world.

    • @hepta2502
      @hepta2502 5 лет назад

      Crushing It Dreaded Ambull adds the Ambull threat to the gameplay. Not sure about the other two, typical GW promoting is always sketchy until they release box contents other than included miniatures. That tends to be when it goes up on website and in stores for pre-order. The expectation from what I have read is Traitors Gate will contain more gameplay mechanics. Escalation just got announced so details are thin other than it makes available several miniatures to the rest of the world that are only currently available in Germany and the US. I am thinking it will just add a new ship with few additional characters and enemies to the mix. I will probably get them both cause Blackstone is the only 40K themed game I have purchased and it was specifically cause you can solo it. I agree, from reading its website, I do see GW uses similar fluff tactics as EA, as does CMON.
