The Christmas party scene is one I will never forget. The conflicting emotions that come from their camaraderie, while being forced to carry out their duties is haunting.
I am very much looking forward to future parts of Ciconia. It explores very interesting and relevant themes that relate to our current (and potential future) society. It is without a doubt a worthy addition to the When They Cry series. I consider Umineko my all time favourite story ever, but Ciconia has proven to be just as amazing, just in a different way. Hopefully, it doesn't get cancelled. All is in the name of guiding humanity down the right path.
I have the exact same feelings. It has so much potential to grow and seeing how it will carry on from the Phase 1 ending has me curious. All is in the name of guiding humanity down the right path.
I think you forgot to mention one of the best parts about the vn, the mysteries. The world is so detailed and well done but filled with mysterious organizations and events that makes the readers incredibly intruiged. I for sure was! Great video!
Thank you! The mystery and world had definitely grabbed me as well! The history behind the A3W era shows that despite all of the cruel things that have happened it's best to move on and hope for a better future. While also having those dark orgs actively trying to break that hope. That along side the whole thing with Miyao and the "Three Kings Assistants" have such a good set up. Now that you mention it, I really should have talked about it. There is a lot of substance, and I can't wait to see how it's expanded upon.
@@NeNeiSan "despite all of the cruel things that have happened it's best to move on and hope for a better future." wow... that sure does remind me of something... something else thgat ends in when they cry... this ryukishi guy might be onto something
It's such a great video! I think it's a great game. Can't believe it's only a quarter, and there is potentially 3 times more to come with everything making a coherent whole when it ends.
Same here! This first chapter gave it so much potential with its mysterys characters and themes. Really excited for when Phase 2 will be announced. Thank you!
Man, Ciconia Phase 1 is probably Ryukishi07's most ambitious start to any of his stories (that I've read, which admittedly is only Higurashi and Umineko). I remeber being blown away at how much Ryukishi07 managed to fit in just one Phase/Chapter while not having it feel bloated. Every character gets some interesting moments, and man that finale... I look forward to the (hopeful) day a Phase 2 release date is annoiunced and I can re-read Phase 1 in preaparation. Because while I remember the basics of the story, a lot of the in-between stuff has grown fuzzy in my memory over time (I did play it around when it first released so that makes sense). Here's hoping we can see Ciconia's continuation and eventual conclusion in the future! I loved your video goling over the themes and intricacies to Ciconia Phase 1's narrative.
Completely agree! I don't know how he just keeps on upping the stakes and atmosphere with each WTC work he does. Just thinking about the "Christmas Party" still gives me chills. He introduced so many ideas and characters that seem interesting even though there is so much more to touch on. I'm going to do the same. Even though there was a lot of hints of what the story could be about, there is still that feeling Phase 2 onward could truly go anywhere. There have been some theories of how its following the Book of Revelations, knowing Ryukishi, he's going to veer and completely throw us off early on. I too cannot wait for it! it's been almost a year since Ryukishi last mentioned it, so maybe we'll get some information soon?
@@NeNeiSan As a Chirstian myself who use to intensely study The Book of Revelations from The Bible, that theory that Ciconia is going to follow Revealtions is very intriguing. I might have to re-read Revealtions before I re-read Ciconia now lol. I remember the general outlines of the book but a lot of the specifics of the events and their order have become hazy in my memory
1:10 despite this, I really recommend reading Higurashi first, Vier can be considered a spoiler for Higurashi, considering that she is identical to Takano and even has the same death as hers.
A lot of Ryuukishi's works contain an internal conflict manifested in outward form. I got the sense from Ciconia that Miyao's mental state and convictions have the power to change the world itself. It's an optimistic perspective that values human will rather than treating people as irrelevant, replaceable numbers. That hopeful outlook is all the more precious because Ryuukishi is an informed cynic and paints a credibly tainted and abusive world. At the same time, assailing that youthful hopefulness, phase 1 towards the end gave me a similar feeling to that of Umineko Episodes 1 & 2 where it feels like it's too late to change anything and the characters struggles are hopeless. I don't mind the delay in phase 2 because it gives me a chance to read phase 1 a third time to write down my final theory. Also, thanks for sharing your thoughts in video form
Ciconia is peak, i love the different feeling you get from it

I second that. Any WTC title can be perceived differently depending on which one's you have seen before it.

Love the vid, your channel give me many good exposure to the potential of good literature that lies in visual novels
