    Iracing could do something like give drivers who‘ve been banned recently and are under probation a mandatory special „livery of shame“ that’s instantly recognized by all other drivers. Public disgrace has a chilling effect on some hotheads...

    iRacing takes care of all issues like this if a protest is filed. We may give a coaching note or two before suspending someone but if the behavior continues that member will be removed from the service. We encourage all to send a protest whenever anyone intentionally wrecks someone or retaliates against someone. We will be happy to address the issue appropriately.

    Back in July I had lost my temper in a Arca race. Short story.....I purposely took another driver out and then in my infinite wisdom proceeded to give him a piece of my mind. Come the next day I went to race and boom......The driver protested me and Nim gave me a 1 month competitive racing ban and a 3 month communication ban. Moral of my story is, it’s not worth it! Looking back on this I’m somewhat ashamed of my actions. Yes I was angry...but retaliation on the track or verbally or both, is never a good thing. Lesson learned.

We touched in a corner because I was drafting him and he swerved left and right to block me. We both stayed on track but I managed to pass him.
      In the next corner where you have to brake down for a narrow chicane.. he didn't brake and rammed me full speed. In the chat afterwards he only told me it was his 'thank you' for touching him. The problem with iRacing isn't these guys. These guys are rare, and when they do what they do, it's obvious and they are removed.
    The problem with iRacing is the guys that mask what they do. They subtlety tap your rear end and make you spin. They play games on rolling starts. They use netcode to their advantage and swerve towards you and swerve away. They don't back out when they know it's not their corner.
    The reason the guys like I described are allowed to do what they do is because iRacing will look at a replay and just say "oh, that was just a mistake." or "oh, that was just a racing incident.", when it's not. A solution to this is giving out smaller punishments for BAD DRIVING. iRating penalties, series suspensions, championship point deductions. There needs to be consequences for racing incidents. Giving each guy a 4x and be on your way does nothing to make the racing cleaner. Guys that ruin races don't give a shit about safety rating. I just got out of a race where I was clear ahead of a guy into a turn after he made a mistake. I hit the apex and tracked out towards the exit and the guy just drives into my rear tire and spins me into the wall, ending my race. He of course continued on and there's nothing I can protest. Incidents like those are what you see every single race. And there's no punishment for it. Protesting does nothing.

    • @Vizual_Racing
      @Vizual_Racing 3 года назад +11

      You can protest reckless driving and it in fact goes on the driver's record. I know this for a fact because when I first started 5 years ago I was super aggressive. I did not intentionally spin anybody or hook them, but I made a bunch of questionable moves that led to wrecks.
      After a while, I actually got an email from Nim wanting to talk about my driving, he actually called my cell to talk about it. He let me know that there was a bunch of people who reported me, and even though he did not think I was intentionally wrecking people, my over-aggressive driving was leading to a ton of ruined races and it was an issue.
      I took our conversation to heart, cleaned up my driving a bit, made smarter passes, and have not had a single issue since.
      So if you see unsafe driving, report it, it will be documented and eventually coaching will take place.

    • @runswithscisors1110
      @runswithscisors1110 3 года назад

      My suggestion to you is start from the back. You get out of lower divisions a lot quicker. As soon as I got to class C for oval racing (my main discipline) I haven’t had much issues with idiot drivers crashing into me. Maybe I’m just lucky but if you get out of the lower levels, you tend to race with people who stay out of trouble more often than not

    • @Vizual_Racing
      @Vizual_Racing 3 года назад +2

      @@runswithscisors1110 this is horrid advice honestly, and it hardly ever works out as intended. You may be the rare lucky case when it did work but generally starting in the back and just farming safety teaches nothing.
      It also usually ends up in a loss of irating and that will put you into a lower split aka less skilled drivers.
      Then you're stuck in a car you're not ready for, with race craft that you've not developed, accident avoidance skills that you've not honed, all with low irating drivers who also probably did the same thing you did.
      My advice is stay in rookies until you make top split in the rookie division and you can compete with the drivers in that split and you're not just a back marker. Then move up.
      I think you will find that for the most part if you're fast, get to the front portion of the field that there are far less issues up there. Especially since cautions are off in rookie series on oval.

    • @Fivecorr
      @Fivecorr 3 года назад +1

      But this would lead to the problem that you have to be afraid to make a somewhat risky move. I am not talking about Hail Mary divebomb or sticking your nose up to the rear bumper, but things like going two wide into a turn with both cars at the same height. If i have to be afraid to get punished for a move that might end up as a racing incident some people might no longer race.vAnd with race i mean proper racing, not doing laps for the SR and collecting freebies and not some stupid stuff you mentioned.
      But how can the system tell the difference between racing incident and 150m divebombs? I remember a few races in the KIA, one in particular from Road America. I was fighting and was wheelbanging with the other guy for the lead for the whole 25min. Thanks to giving each other from time to time a little love tab we ended up with 3*4x. And that was some really good racing! Hence the memory even if that race was over 2 years ago. Even race Stewards can‘t agree on some situations in the real world, and they know the bigger context. Same goes for a League i am part of where there are a team of stewards who review every incident and they know some of the drivers for over 6 years. So they can tell if something was on purpose, and honesty mistake (which still leads to some penalties if it was avoidable .
      So how can one create a system that can tell the difference between 3 harmless love taps in a Touring Car and a 4x that sends you into the fence because the other driver was just brain afk in that situation? Sometimes its not even a 4x, you also have to think about the 0x -> 1x. You got the version of that ends for lets say one car in the wall but this 0x -> 1x could also be the result of some good hard clean wheel banging at a track like spa.
      I know the situations i drew out are that (sadly) 1 in 1000 times when those 1x or 4x are harmless and that the „normal“ (which is even more sad) current situation is the one you pictured. One could also add a max x-count per season/week per series. But then you have the problem that you punish the guy who does like 10 races per week with like 2 offtracks per race vs the no practice no racecraft guy who wrecks once per week after 4 laps. One could come up with a fancy inc/race formula but that could be exploited... yadi yadi yada.

      This is exactly what I wrote, we all know how to knock out someone, itis even pretty easy to do and it is due to iRacing poor tyre grip model (if you go beyond tyre grip, you all of a sudden don't grip at all anymore). Hitting a car from behind making its rear tyres slip a bit will pretty luch mean spin or offtrack for the front car, which doesn't exist in many other games like ACC or rFactor 2.

You'll have to wait 30 minutes after the end of the event to submit a protest. You'll also need a clip of the replay or a recording from game capture to include in your protest.
      At the top of the Protest form is a dropdown box to select the violation in question. Once the violation is selected, more fields will appear including the driver being protested, a description of the complaint as well as options to upload up to three attachments. It was 8's responsibility to pass cleanly and there's no reason to hit 4 in the rear TWICE. I don't care if it's intentional or not. Your insurance doesn't care if you hit someone from behind. It's your fault. You can't just say "Oops, I didn't expect you to brake for the stop sign!" I'm fine with a little bumping and banging that doesn't wreck people with good racing, but just blatantly taking people out because of not paying attention closely enough or plain lack of courtesy to other people's time is ridiculous too. It's not fun to spend an hour practicing and then just get taking out by someone who just hopped into a race and doesn't care. Need to be nicer on both sides.

      Exactly... Can't ride someone's ass, then punt them off like the #8 car did.
      The 1st collision was dumb too - #8 should have just lifted momentarily and stayed low when entering the banking, then he wouldn't have hit #4... The 1st collision wasn't as bad as the 2nd one though.
      2nd collision was 100% the fault of the #8... He has to know that if he's a foot away from the #4 cars rear bumper, there's a 50/50 chance of the #4 braking sooner than him... Which is gonna cause a collision every time. The #8 was carrying too much speed into the chicanes on every lap and braking too late and too hard on each entry to BOTH chicanes in each lap also.
      Instead of the "slow in fast out" which is the proven way to go faster, he was going in too fast and scrubbing speed thru the exit of the chicanes, and therfore losing much more time than if he'd have braked slightly sooner into the chicanes.
      I'm glad I wasn't the only one who saw #8 was at fault also. I don't think he punted #4 on purpose, but it was still his fault.
      "Sorry I punted you, fucked your race and your stats" means nothing.
      Not punting someone means alot.

      @@WaskiLP Filing protests does work. Most of the time driver will just get a warning. Many times that warning is enough for them to realize that iRacing won't tolerate it, so they stop. Repeat offenders will get suspensions, and in extreme cases, permanently banned (I know of some drivers this happened to).
      The key to a successful protest is to take the time to give them the entire story. Don't just give them a short replay of the one incident. You need to give them the fully story and include replays of the incidents leading up to intentional wrecking. Many times this includes sending iRacing a replay of you accidently wrecking the person you are protesting. This video is a great example of what should be included in a protest.

Idk if it works the same in road racing, because there was one guy in rookie mazdas a couple days ago who kept divebombing and ramming me, I'd get the run in the corners and he'd block me down to the grass and then almost like stop almost completely instead of using the proper amount of braking to make the corner. Since it was Mazdas I mean I accidentally rammed him and gave him a 0x, but if that was stock cars even at a road course and I was the one doing that I'd of been punted off the track. Eventually he crashed out and rage quit, but I got stuck with P2 because he was holding me up the entire race.

    5:15 im not going to defend the 4 car or his actions following the incedent, BUT i think the 8 car deserves some heat to! these are the types of little mistakes that have a far to big outcome, that really shouldnt happen! yet on iracing they happen far to often to the point that it makes a supossed ''sim'' appear as an arcade. i race for fun and this is the type of things that takes out all the fun of it. You want to be able to trust the other drivers around you so you can have close racing and battle for position. ofcourse on iracing you cant do that unless youre in a leauge with friends. when youre right behind someone going into a brakingzone, you have to start braking earlier than them. the 8 car is clearly just waiting for the 4 car to brake first even when he knows he wont be able to overtake him, in my opinion this shows a lack of respect from the 8 car, and it might even be on pourpose.

    • @IIIErebusIII
      @IIIErebusIII 3 года назад +2

      The 8 car breaking would be classed as a racing indecent and not on purpose everyone makes a mistake and he shouldn't get stick, What the 4 car does is inexcusable you can't just hit people off and get mad because of a mistake and if it wasn't fine he's right and report the 8 but this is why i gave up on Iracing even at a high level if you make a mistake people jump on it and think it's on purpose.

      My opinion, for what it's worth...This is a product of the 'hotlapping' mentality created by modern racing games that even permeates up into the top echelons of irl racing. There is NOT only one 'fast' racing line where a field of cars is concerned. Racing is a high speed chess game where you put yourself in the best position to effect a pass on the car in front of you. I find that on the occasion that I start fast and beat the hotlappers to T1 they tend to be at a total loss to how they will get around me, apart from deliberately tapping you out of the way. Modern motor racing, 2 or 4 wheels, seems to be almost totally bereft of race craft. Sitting right under your opponents rear wing only guarantees 2 things. 1/ you will eventually hit him, and 2/ you won't get past him, as you are being forced to drive his lap plan. "Never ride in your opponent wheel tracks if you intend to get past him" is the best advice I was ever given when racing bikes back in the 80's. But, this requires solid concentration and many can't manage it. Both of these drivers were at fault and need a stern talking too. But, the deliberate takeout is unforgivable. This behavior would result in a punched nose in the back of the pit in the real world. Virtual racing MUST be treated in the mind as real, and that you could kill the other driver with your poor actions...or it's just a arcade game and not worth our time.

    I'll admit, I lost my cool in a MX-5 race once. I understand racing incidents occur, but there are some drivers who make their actions too apparent you can't help but react accordingly. I had a guy who was trailing me through the final turn at the Jefferson Circuit at Summit Point, he came out of the turn faster than me and I was defending my position successfully. As he was finally able to overtake on a straightaway, he thought he'd be slick by passing real close on my left and give me a bump, so I bumped back, sent him off track and he crashed into the wall after losing control on the grass. Did I feel bad? Not at all. He knew what he was doing and he reaped what he sowed. But the #4 car here is just a grade A asshat doing what he did.

    I totally agree with the idea that these guys shouldn't be in iRacing, but when we report this to iRacing Staff in most cases they say "we should be competing with higher irating". In most cases I see this kind of situation in top splits, and nothing seems to be done by the iRacing staff. They say "notified of the outcome" in all cases, but I follow these dirty drivers and see them running normally. So I don't know if it's worth wasting time trying to protest, it's frustrating ...

    Driver made an error on lap one and took himself out on my back tire. On the last lap, he laid up for the straight before the Senna Esses to make sure he was in front me, pulled in front at the last moment and slammed the brakes.
    It WAS going to be my first win.

I am very fresh to iRacing community and I had also soo many chances to "take revange" on someone who unintentionally (or not) put me out of track, because of mistakes beeing made, but as you said Dave - this feeling dissappears, but only if you are committed to stay fair player. I personally think many people came here with mentality of "win at all cost". My first races i was happy to be in top 10 with possitive ratings 🙃 I guess - that's not enough for some.

    The protest system in iRacing is great. They really want everyone to have a positive experience. I had a guy cost me what would have been my first ever win in retaliation for a mistake I made earlier in the race. He slowed down, let me catch him on my final lap and just took me out.
    Losing that first win was painful but knowing he got a two week ban gave me some comfort. I think I won the next race after that too and moved from D to C not long after

    I've been sent spinning from P1 to 45 seconds behind everyone else because someone punted me off at Turn 1. I just go into the pits, swap out tires and repair damage if possible and finish the race. It's online racing. And even in games/programs where there is skill based matching, there are still huge gaps in experience and skill.
    Then there are guys who drive into YOU and then blame YOU for the incident. Crying and bitching about it the whole race even though replay clearly shows it was them that caused the contact. The difference is I'm not a 38 year old playing in my mom's basement so totally disillusioned that Ferrari will offer me a seat with Charles Leclerc for next year's F1 season if I get my ratings high enough. And I don't watch motorsports events where pu
    Eople spend alternate race weekends taking each other out. *cough* Nascar *cough*
    It's just a game. People make mistakes. Unless you're a streamer or esports user (I'm not going to say athlete, most of these guys look like they don't even know what a gym is) you're not losing or winning money from anything. Just relax and stop killing all the fun in sim racing.

    The offender probably got wrecked a whole lot that day, and snapped.
    It's not really an excuse, but people on iRacing get wrecked at no fault of their own way too often which is understandably frustrating.
    I don't think first time offenders should be permanently banned.
    I've felt like retaliating after getting wrecked before, but I didn't act on it.

    I had a similar experience at LImerock in the Mazda. I was overtaking a guy at a much faster speed and sideswiped him after he forced me off the inside of the little dogleg before the chicane. I was on the grass trying to make the right curve. Didn't work well. We both ended up spinning, and he decided to turn around and come backwards down the track to slam me as I was backing off the wall. And then he backed up to do it again. THEN, after we both quit to the pits, he turned around and came backwards down pitlane to slam me again, no knowing that we were shadows. He went through my car and got hung up on the wall.
    Thankfully it was practice. And it was rookie class, he had even 2.50 Irating, so I figured he was new and didn't know any better yet. I just quit the practice session to let him cool down.
