    Someone else who uses Dungeon magazines! I love these magazines and feel that these have more imagination than the newer ones! Thanks for showing me how to breathe life back into my magazines using Dungeondraft.

    Great video, I've only just found this software. I'm not sure when it was implemented but in the preferences you can snap to half grid, which would have helped in some of the places you had to take "artistic license".

    So has anyone been able to replicate this tutorial in the latest version (10.0.0) of Dungeondraft? I can't even seem to open any standard image file type (JPEG, PNG, etc.).

      No problems here with 1.0.0.0. Simply press NEW, create a new map and then go to Settings -> Trace Image. Tried with JPG and PNG files.

    Hold Alt-scroll wheel to scale without going to the slider.

      I try to avoid using the mouse wheel as I have a VERY clicky mouse wheel that gets picked up on the audio. I've spent over £100 on mics, lamps, and cameras but for some reason won't buy a new mouse

    Any thoughts on converting the old 10’ squares to the modern 5’ ones in the program? Double the size of the underlying map?

    • @polyhedroncollider
      @polyhedroncollider  3 года назад +2

      Personally I would double the size of the underlying map, or if you are using a VTT like Roll20, draw the map as is and double the scale there.

      when you import the picture into Dungeondraft just make the grid that goes over it smaller. 4 squares to 1. I do it all the time.

      Wow, thank you!
      This video is bizarrely the most popular thing we’ve ever done, and it was just a random off the cuff piece of content I put together in an afternoon. Every time I see how well it’s doing I feel as if I need to follow it up with something similar - but can never come up with an idea as to what?!

    I just started using Dungeondraft and the idea of recreating older maps as practice is great. I'm making the Uthtower from Dungeon #73. Thanks for the video!

    This is brilliant. Could you recommend some sources to pull similar maps from online? I have a few, but I just wanted to ask the hivemind for input. Gracias.

      If you want something random to use as an inspiration then I suggest Watabou's one page dungeon: watabou.itch.io/one-page-dungeon

    amazing video, thank you for sharing. Very interesting to see how you use the combination of tracing images and creating "your own" dungeon based on it...

    This is great, and I would very much like to do the same thing (with a different map though), but I need to know how you got the map in there and how you set all this up. So that bit you did not film is what I need. Importing an asset is covered by other videos, but how do I set it up on a newly created map in order to be able to "trace" over it? And how did you set up the sliding opacity thing? Pretty-much from the beginning is what I need. 🤷‍♂

  • @rodgeratkin

    I set up the map in Photoshop to same size as the grid and save as a jpeg. When imported to Dungeondraft it is tiny and even expanded to 10 (max) it is 2.5 times smaller than the DD grid???

    If you select a number of scatter terrain and proceed to place them the program will randomly chose and alternate so you don't have to change every so often. Very helpful though, I didn't know of the opacity trick

    Your issue with the doors on diagonal surfaces comes from the fact that you had "snap" still on whilst placing them I think!

      @@polyhedroncollider Also: you can place doors/windows whereever you want without the need for suitable walls if you switch from anchored to freestanding.

    How far did you get before you figured out that you drew the whole map at half the scale of the original module?

  • @wizzarin424
    @wizzarin424 2 года назад

    Great video, thank you!! I do have a question, can one change the size of the grid? Like you make you finish and realize the building is twice the size than what the grid is showing so where there was 5 feet (1 square) there should be 10 feet (2 squares).

    I remember playing this map back in the day -- I remember those little ghoul tombs :D

  • @garhent
    @garhent 3 года назад

    The map looks good. The grids is 10' per square. How do you run that with the players or do you double the squares in dungeondraft after the fact? Putting players in 5' tunnels does a limit for monster and player maneuverability. I'm wondering if dungeondraft can double the squares and keep everything centered.

    • @polyhedroncollider
      @polyhedroncollider  3 года назад

      I would just rescale it when I load it into my VTT but most of the encounter works fine with a the squares at 5'. The only real issue is the ghoul in the grave corridor, but there the cramped space can also make it a claustrophobic experience

    This is great! How did you import the map into dungeondraft?

    • @polyhedroncollider
      @polyhedroncollider  4 года назад +1

      Settings -> Trace Image, then select the image file. I didn't include it in the video because it took a lot of going back and forth changing the scale of the image but Dungeondraft is being constantly updated so I hope this improves soon.

      @davelogeman 4 года назад +1

      @@polyhedroncollider Thanks. Hopefully the program will incorporate something akin to FG's grid fitting tool. That would go a long way towards helping us grognards map our old favorite adventures to a VTT.

    I wish you would have slowed down a bit around 3:25. I am real new with Dungeondraft. I tried a trance once. I got it in the program but it was taking too long. At 3:25 what function are you using to just wiz through putting walls and floors in place? To draw a square wall I would have to draw the bottom, each side and the top one at a time. You fly (slow down and don't assume everyone knows all the functions would be my suggestion as you go through these) and looks like you are hitting two point and the program put in both the wall and floor! I get one side of the wall each time and would have to put the floor in afterwards. I guess if you have a more basic video as I haven't found one by Dungeondraft that shows me that would work also.
