  • John was the rare type of player to admire both on and off the court. He never made it about himself, just simply did his job and did it well. He didn't care about all the other stuff that came with being a pro athlete. I can't think of a better role model.

What a warrior Stockton was. He played 19 seasons and played in all 82 games 17 times. Stockton NEVER missed a playoff game in 19 straight seasons of making the playoffs. Stockton played with a broken leg in Barcelona (Olympics). He was 'ole skool' tough and brought his hard hat and lunch pale to work each day. Of course Stockton is the all time assists and steals leader but people sometimes forget that although extremely unselfish, Stockton was more aggressive in the big games in crunch time. He made all the biggest shots in Jazz history but he was always humble and gave everybody else the credit. He avoided self promotion and always got home fast to his family. Stockton was an all around class act, solid human being and damn great basketball player.

I will always remember the class the Kings fans showed to Stockton that night by giving him a standing ovation send off in his last NBA game.

This guy led the league in assists for NINE YEARS in a row. That is just crazy. While doing that, he also recorded 2-3 steals and about 15 points per game on average.

I play drums in a band, we play this song, and it's a perfect song for Stockton, my favorite player. To me, he epitomizes what a ball player should be. Fundamental in every way, making his size mostly irrelevant. The very best point guard in basketball history, and he may never be surpassed.
Thanks for the great video, great highlights and a great, great song!

A simple man in normal life, an absolute extraordinary man on the court. Maybe the best ever at his position. When he was chosen in the first round of the draft, everyone in Utah wondered out loud, "who the heck is John Stockton".? He and Malone were a magical duo---they were never traded. How we miss them !!!

My favorite playmaker ever... because how simple he kept his game. Outstanding passer, great shooter, excelent defender, an iron man, tough as nails, clutchness, a leader by example, genious bb IQ...and tons of fun to watch. Much like Duncan, not the most spectacular player, but dominated with basketball fundamentals.
About the video, great job!. Nice song, and a ton of highlights i hadnt seen before. Excelent editing too. Congrats.
I hope you are working on something as good, but for the Mailman.

Unreal court vision/awareness, tremendous understanding of the game and of his teammates' tendencies, a top2 passer in basketball history, handled the ball extremely well, had finishing skills and footwork, a great shooting touch, quick release, quick hands, great defensive IQ, was small but strong and a nice overall athlete... Plus, he was tough as nails, just went about his business and had terrific longevity. Stockton is certainly one of the best players ever, a top5 all-time PG thus far, and his game is the prototype for what your "conventional" - let's call it - pointguard should be like.
Great video, great song, thanks for posting.

Good video and many clips not used that much or seen in other highlights. Stockton was the most pure PG player which is rare to see anymore. At least on Bulls Ryan Arcidiacono is the closest I have seen in a while playing in NBA =)

The all-time NBA leader in assists and steals. There is a reason Chris Webber used to take rookies to watch the baddest man on the planter - Stockton- get out of his mini van before practice ... then light fools up on the court.

The density of Stockton highlight videos has increased in the last years. That's a good evidence that the basketball knowledge increases. In my opinion Stockton is maybe one of the top 3 basketball player of all time, of course the best point guard. I don't need a term like "pure point guard".
I don't like comparison where the people compare champions ships or MVPs. That's not important because MVP awards are not an indicator for greatness. Who says that the people who never give an MVP award were right?
Other people say: Stockton took a lot of benefit to play with Karl Malone but nobody says Magic Johnson took a lot of benefit of playing together with Abdul-Jabbar and Worthy, two players of HOF, two players who were elected into the 50 greatest players of NBA in 1997. Championships are never the result of single players. championsships are result of greate teams. Jordan had Pippen, Grant, later Rodman. Bird mostly played together with Parish, McHale and Dennis Johnson. All are in HOF. He also played together with old players like Tiny Archibald and Bill Walton.
The most people don't regard this and say: "No MVP, no ring... Stockton cannot be better than Magic/Robertson/Thomas/Nash/Kidd..."
Stockton played a great offense and great defense. He played unselfish. I like it to watch him at developing an offense where mediocre NBA players like Antoine Carr, Bryon Russell, Marc Iavaroni and Mark Eaton can make the easy points.

When Gary Payton says it was tougher for him guarding John than guarding Jordan, you understand then how much of a beast John was. It was so hard to defend him because he was so unpredictable.

Albert Cabero Stockton was also tough to defend because he brought his lunch pale every night. Dude never backed down to anyone.
