    I think we react to our dogs and cats like Dale does because they are like our own little children, and we want to comfort them when they are upset. I groom my dogs here at my home in the garage. I'm in AZ. I have a setup similar to yours, just no bathing system, just the good old tub and shower head. And I had a white mini schnauzer for 15 yrs and he HATED grooming. But I did it anyway, 😆

    Missy is my little Maltese mix. She’s so precious….timid…. But hates to be groomed!! The last time I picked her up from the groomer she seemed traumatized…slept all evening. I did noticed that there was a man there with a black apron on….maybe bathing the dogs. Missy is terrified of men. So maybe there was a problem there. She was a rescue an obviously had been mistreated. So ……I have done all her grooming here at home for the last 4 years.

      It was interesting to somewhat confirm my diagnosis. There's some moments when I firmly tell him No! And I can see a toddler like reaction where he just flops and stops being a bossy boots for a few minutes.
      Such a cheeky boy! His cuddles and love of scratches confirm he is not in pain or suffering a terrible anxiety. Just a desire to be in control and dictate what everyone will be doing. (I'm very familiar with this desire 🤣 don't tell my husband!)

    This is my yorkie, Mickey. I got him 4 yrs as a rescue is 10 or 11 now. Yes very naughty and bossy. I do him in shifts now. Body one day then the face, eyes, ears, legs and feet. He needs his nails to be done so bad. The last time I trimmed his nails I got bit really bad. I didn't hurt him. I don't know why he's so bad. I can't afford to sedate him either. I'm having a hard time finding a good muzzle that fits. My 87 yo mother gets the brunt of his behaviour who tries to help me hold him during the process. Her arms are bloody because of his nails. He can be a nightmare but can be also a sweetheart too. I just taught him to roll over half way for a treat. He is very smart. Yes patience is so important.

    Kylie have you ever looked into anti-histamine grooms, childrens or bay benadryl has been used on dogs but you need tolook into it a bit, it will make them sleepy/drowsy without sedation. maybe ask your vet. I know this is different but i live with a great deal of pain and my dr put me onto anti-histamines to calm me during bad bouts of pain rather than pain medication it also helps to get some sleep. I hope this gives you an avenue to try. Hugs loves and cuddles to all.

    Kylie-I have an inexpensive suggestion of something that could help you in your shop grooming dogs like Arlo. When you held him up against you to groom his torso you couldn't see his abdomen. Put mirrors on the back wall of the grooming table. That will reflect what you cannot see directly. Love watching you with the dogs and cats. Hope that makes your job a little easier. Try it.

    • @kyliethegroomer
      @kyliethegroomer  Год назад +3

      Hi Mary 👋 I have considered this in the past, however I work with a number of very reactive, large breed dogs. My fear is that one will break the glass and be at risk of injury. A number of German shepherds I groom, really thrash around and throw thier weight around. I decides against it just to be safe. Perhaps a small portable mirror for individual cases like this might work. 🤔
      Great suggestion though! I just can't get past the thought of it going horribly wrong.

    • @4UStevePerry
      @4UStevePerry Год назад

      Yes I agree plus you trying to work on the dog without hurting yourself and the dog. I would think it would be a distraction to look at a mirror.

    • @kyliethegroomer
      @kyliethegroomer  Год назад

      He is a mix breed known as the Schmoodle. I believe that is a Shih tzu x Maltese x poodle. Very cute! But that's 3 breeds that can often be extremely demanding, needy and stubborn. They make amazing companions as they always want your attention and have big personalities. All 3 breeds have common traits that make them potentially difficult for grooming. Poodles often dislike having thier legs touched, Shih Tzu often misbehave for thier face trimming and Maltese terriers are frequently very stubborn and bossy for grooming with a tendency to be snappy. This is not true of the entire breed, just common behaviours experienced by groomers. I reiterate, they do make wonderful and loving companions! Just need solid commitment to grooming in the first year or two, to set boundaries and expectations on the table.

      @Layla Jamal why are you so certain that you know better? Are you a trained dog groomer? Not someone who watches videos but an actual trained dog groomer.
      Tbh your tone is quite hostile. If you don't enjoy the videos then perhaps it'd better not to watch. That way you won't have to be upset because someone does something a different way.

  • @TheLjamal
    @TheLjamal Год назад

    As much as i love your work but i want to say you bathing the dogs is equivalent to the dog swimming because you don't scrub the whole body, you don't even touch their legs, under belly or the back end. You cannot just spray water and call that a bath. Can you shower without scrubing your skin or your hair? will you feel clean if you shower with only running water over you without scrubbing?

    • @kyliethegroomer
      @kyliethegroomer  Год назад +2

      Hi Layla,
      I am using a Hydro bath. This utilises high pressure to massage shampoo through the coat and down to the skin. I rarely hand scrub the dogs. When I'm using my hand, it is simply to pash shampoo or loose hair off the dog. Hand scrubbing is absolutely not necessary when using a hydro bath. It is an extremely effective way to wash dogs. Hand scrubbing while using a hydro bath would be equivalent to using a hand held brush on your drive way while pressure washing. It's not necessary.
