Here is a perfect tutorial video for school teachers! How to think about something special (a tall bicycle), then how to design (from your idea), how to plan (to make it real), how to build and finally make it real! How to be safe (Laura wearing glasses and mask! Yes very important). And last but first, be able to publish on-line a well-designed short video. A lot of work ! Bravo !
Now your not just flying, your in orbit! Extraordinary creativity, skill & confidence in your work: From this comes things no one else will do, except in copying your inspirational leadership.
Unusual build! I've never built one like that but more in the traditional way and it was funny riding my main antique schwinn in between my two at the time freshly built 1970s schwinn "California" bikes pedaled by kids looking down at trucks and cars passing by.
I remember seeing tall bikes in the 60s when I lived in Fort Knox Kentucky. Most were two high, but a few were three and four bikes high. Great video Laura.
Some big blue shoes , big curly purple hair , and a red clown nose ...That is what i would be wearing when riding the tall bike ..I LOVE IT !! Looks like so much fun !!
thank you! since i set myself the goal to make a video every week i have learned so much about how to approach the ideas and sort them out for the ones you can make happen in a short time. it´s a really good practise to get more efficient every time :)
COOL!! Looks like the old giraffe bicycles (also called lamplighter bicycles) used back in the days of gaslight by... well... by lamplighters. Very cool!
My cousins made one of those when we were kids in the 80's. One of them busted their ass big time falling off of it. It puts your center of gravity way up there obviously. Its super easy to ride it out from under yourself.
Hi Laura this is a great inspirational vid! Since watching this I've been given the bug to try to biuld one of these beasties. keep up this great work. two thumbs up from Scotland..
There is a man in my town that has a bike like this I always did wonder how he made it probably pretty much the same way. Great build Laura I bet it was fun to ride.
An easier and faster way is to get some angle iron and C-clamps and use them to clamp both bike frame on the same plane, then align the steering stems with the inside edges of another piece of angle iron and then weld the frames together. I splice in a piece of tubing (chain link fence post works well) between the two steering stems and lengthen the inside tube on the forks for enclosed bearings. Nice video!
When I was younger I had 3/4 bike. I grew up and my father decided to weld longer seat post instead of buying new bike. One day I went down from local hill and few metres after hill it suddenly broke in weld joint. Saddle just stayed between my legs and bike went straight without me. No helmet. I was very lucky. Speed from this hill is up to 70 km/h. Please weld better than my father. It would be pity to loose so great youtuber :)
Yup... that was awesome! That looks like a lot of fun to ride! I really liked how you re-used the old pedals as steps! Very simple and extremely clever! Nice one. Great paint job too. =)
Ha! When I was about 10 or 12 years old (I'm 60 now), several local kids had tall bikes made from old sting ray bicycles. Little different design, but still cool. I always wanted one.
yeah, i saw a copy of a super old popular mechanics article where the fliped a bikeframe upside down to make it taller...that must have been from the 60s. maybe it was a similar construction. tallbikes have been around for ages :)
That's just good fun, both to build, and to ride. As a bonus, I'm sure you make people who see it stop for a moment....isn't that what good art is supposed to do?
Your RUclips channel is so interesting and entertaining. I really like the wide range of subjects that you pick. I think that you're a very creative person. And one that isn't afraid to experiment. If you make another tall bike in the future try moving the rear wheel further back to make it more stable on hills. Best of luck to you, and thank you.
Another great video, absolutely wild! You must have some crazy dreams in your sleep because how in the world would anyone come up with this idea??? Looks like loads of fun ;-)
Talk about getting high and having your head in the clouds! Lol! That looks like great fun. At my age (50) I think I would have used a three wheeled bike for the base. And lots of brakes. Lol! I probably would have ran into everyone.
