This week I built a foldable sidecar for my bicycle from a broken wheelchair that i found on a junkyard.
The wheelchair was broken and no longer suitable to carry a person but i thought it would be a shame to let that object go to waste.
So i came up with a new purpose for it. A foldable Sidecar.
I challenged myself to design it in a way that basically enybody could build it even if they don´t have a shop full of tools. I only used a drill and an anglegrinder.

A sidecar for beer, a bottle opener and a holder. You have your priorities, well done.
I REALLY hope Becks hooks you up with a sponsorship. You'd be a fantastic brand ambassador. Thank you for another great video, this really made me smile.
Anything that helps get beer home is worthwhile, great project Laura.
A woman that loves her beer and recycling. The world needs more people like you. Great job.
I think we need less drinking and driving
I love that you do it all for the beer.
Very clever build! I especially love the quick release wheel idea, for the sidecar.
Love it! You made it so easy to add and remove, it looks like it was made for the bike to begin with. And wonderful editing job! That handclap!
I usually like Laura’s videos but this one is potentially dangerous, at 5:48 you can clearly see how slowly she had to make that turn and how much she was leaning her body. With a design like this when you turn right at anything over 5-10mph you stand a good chance of falling off or having to reduce your steering input because you can’t lean into the turn. If you’re forced to reduce your steering to stay balanced what are you going to hit or what’s going to hit you? If it was done so that it could hinge from 2 or 3 horizontal points along 1 axis it wouldn’t effect the ability to lean into turns at all(subject to the clearance between bike frame and load). Another problem with a rigid connection is that when the third wheel hits a large bump it will transfer that force into the frame, making the rider wobble if not swerve.
@@thechumpsbeendumped.7797 motorcycle outfits work fine, but they accelerate into right turns, using the increased speed of the outside powered wheel to turn the bike. It's a learnt technique and weird to experience. Not sure how it would translate onto the bicycle.
@@fr3heart never driven a motorcycle combination.
As you say they have been around for years and I have never heard of complaints.
Been toying with this idea for a while now.
Getting older and legs not great when getting on or off.
With this option don’t need to step down at junctions etc.
Also looking at trike options.
But I’m interested in doing this to an ebike
Only rule is to not cut , drill or weld on the actual bike frame.
Love the flexible shock absorber idea on the couplings.
The 2 seat kiddie trailer I have for my bike has clip off wheels like in this video plus they also have suspensions.
I wonder ???
Pondering ?????
The bike projects are always a treat. You've got the video-format down pat now, everything looks and feels effortless - and your vids always inspires and makes my day better. Thanks LK.
Laura you are one of my inspiring German people. When I see your videos it makes me think outside of the box when I’m working on something or making something . Thanks for all that you do & make .
You're a genius! Every time I watch one of your videos I'm so impressed with the creative solutions you come up with, and the sort of organic process of thinking out the project as you go. It's inspiring.
der seitenwagen ist so clever und macht nicht nur spass sondern ist in der praxis ein grosser flexibler helfer. bravo laura für dieses gelungene projekt. und.. immer ON AIR 😉 DANKE
Very clever, as always! So cool that you can easily remove the wheel when folded. You are just amazing!
I love this one! It recycles. It improves functionality. It can be built by anyone. Genius!
Laura,
Your creativity, ingenuity, and audacity are all inspiring to me. Those who upcycle see in their mind's eye, something from naught. Thank you and keep up the content.
I love this idea! You are so creative and determined Laura. My only request to you is to show Smudo on every video that you upload. I love watching Smudo!
Very, very clever total respect . Fantastic project. I absolutely love your bicycle projects, well all of your projects actually. Thank you very much.

Hello Laura.
Another great build. I was wondering if you have a patten or copy right on this folding sidecar? Or can people use your or similar design to build one?
Regards.
George
Wow Laura! I love how you applied the lessons learned from past builds!
This bicycle just keeps getting better and better!
Love the idea of minimal tools. Nice challenge.
Just what the hell are you..mad scientist/inventor/genius/artist...??? how do you come up with such awesome projects every time... AWESOME...!!!!!
Completely amazing! What a useful thing to make from something someone has thrown out! Well done!
This is a super cool project! I love how you are repurposing broken parts into something new and useful.
That is so cool!! Creative use of trash! Hope to see you at Maker Faire again this May!
Such a great fun video and project, Laura! The instructional presenting style and the riding shots were an absolute joy! Loved it!
You've done it again! Fantastic....
Wow Laura.
Such innovation.
A great solution for any beer lover.
You could make your bottle holder large enough to hold the bottle with a stubby cooler on to keep the beer cold and stop the bottle from rattling in transit. 👍
Great idea Laura to synchronize the claps at the song with your hand claps, I like it.
Wow-thanks for noticing :)
#thunderclap!
I have about 1/8 of your imagination. but you are the reason for my new tiny house trailer project. insane how talented you are. blows my mind. (plus you have awesome taste in music).
Turned out cool, Laura! I like how the wheel can move totally up and out of the way when not in use.
Brilliant, love it, just the answer for my dispersed car camping needs. FYI, the sidecar math probably isn't really relevant for cargo bike speeds. For motorcycles, there are 3 rules. 1. The sidecar wheel axle leads the "pusher" wheel axle, up to 4". 2. The sidecar wheel should "toe-in" 3/4" to an 1 1/4". 3. the bike should lean away from the sidecar, 1" to 1 1/2". The goal is a drive that tracks straight, riding no hands. Wonderfully creative work, presented really well!
This is gold. Drink and ride at the same time and can also sell beer. Gold.
I'm loving the presenter direction for this video
👍 It looks like some interesting 'left over' parts for a future project.
Looks like you are scooting to the store for another case of Beck's. Good choice. Good movie, thanks.
The bottle opener is a nice touch, Laura!
seen this video before but I really like watching things over to get more out of it. I loved even more this time. You are a true craftsperson!
The bottle opener is sooo extra. Another fantastic build!
The double mounting position for the third wheel is a pretty nice solution!
Also a great way to show some of the older bike projects ;)
Great project Laura . Idea is priceless , execution simple and very inspirational as always . Thank you !
Loved the editing on this video, especially the sound editing. Really good job and great project!
A change in your style!! Tell them what you're doing, do it, and them summarize what you did. Classic
yes!!! waaaaouuuuu!!!! laura is back "bravo"
I really like the instructional tone of this one. Very cool.
At first I didn't get the point of it folding up, but then you took the wheel off and it made total sense. Awesome!
Amazingly creative. Well done

Awesome build! +1 for "dumpster diving" 😎
So clever you are, Laura! 😍
Ok now this one is the most amazing thing ever 😍
Rad tunes! Even more rad build!great job
I really like. Simple tools and great idea
Such a great project! Absolutely love it!
Your new workshop is fantastic for that "now let's get started" clap!
Wieder einmal eine richtig gute Idee
Ich glaube das ist bisher Deine beste Beiwagenlösung! 😃😎🤘🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻😍
Thank you for doing this with minimal tools! 👏 I could do this in my basement pretty easily 😃
Here you are back again, at last! It had been such a long time since the previous video. Don't let us wait so long next time please!
Nice project and nice new format!
Very cool hearing you talk of your work.
Anything capable of transporting the ale home is got to be useful & worthwhile having .👍
Amazing creativity and nice result Laura...
The Clappening. Loved the video.
Another homerun video Laura. I especially enjoy the clap from the video that you timed to clapping your hands before the build.
I like that the design is limited to a case of two dozen so that the rider can safely cycle home once they are finished. Very responsible.
Brilliant thinking and problem solving all throughout this project, from getting yourself motivated through to the finish.
Going to the scrap yard is ALWAYS A FUN DAY 👍👍👍😁 . GREAT PROJECT .
Amazeballs! Thanks for the inspiration
Genius as always. I wish I had half of your engineering skills. And a scrap yard that will let me take things out.
Fantastic! A rolling hofbrauhaus!
That is a really cool idea. Completely innovative and absolutely amazing!!!
You're so great in front of the camera! And handclap edits FTW! ☺👍
Looks so great, wonderful job!
I absolutely loved this idea!!! You're so talented!
Turned out great! cool mod.
WOW. love this format you tried! love it.
This is my favorite project of yours so far, super inventive!
Thank you!
Wow, Super Idee und sehr ausführlich erklärt. Ich war sehr überrascht, aber positiv. Du kannst gerne öfters so ins Detail gehen. Gruß Konstantin
you nailed it! nicely done!
Another excellent video! Thanks for such a fun channel to watch!
Imagine all of your bikes lined up with riders. The mission is to deliver as much beer as possible from point A to point B within a time frame...I couldn't stop giggling at the idea of a Laura's Freak Bike Race!!
Great design and execution!
The whole time I was watching I wondered how you would fold it and keep from hitting the wheel. You came up with a pretty slick solution. 🙂
Such an awesome build!
I'm glad you gave an explanation in this video. Unlike your previous videos. This is the next level. Well done
Awesome projects as always!
Awesome project. Have a great Sunday, Andreas 🇸🇪

I love your builds and videos. You're awesome!
realy good idea, keep it up laura
First: I love that you used tools accessible to most folks for your great build! Second: If RUclips had been 'round in the 80s I'd be so YOU...well... at least that's what I'd like to think! Keep up the fun builds!!!
scrap yards are wonderful places for ideas & just a good day out
The narration in this video was very nice 😊
Great video! Awesome idea!
