I've recently bought a secondhand Grumman 15 here in 🇬🇧. I copied your motor mount design and my son and I had a great first trip on the river with a Suzuki 2.5. We're planning some fishing trips. Just wanted to say thanks for your video which encouraged us.
I am glad this worked for you on this canoe. I tried the same motor on an Old Town canoe and it flopped sideways into the water. Luckily I pulled it out quick. No damage. If I ever try to run it again I would need to counter balance the weight of the motor.
@@a.b.2849 the 15’ Grumman has a really flat bottom. With the boat empty it will list to one side but not flip. If the boat has any gear at all, the 34lb motor doesn’t impact the boat at all.
@@fleetwin1 haha, I’m pretty sure EPA fixed omc forever when the 2 stroke became extinct. It really is a friendly motor to work on. I have 5 of them now in different colors and brands. Even a folder.
Nice. My 19 foot Square stern is a Grumman. I believe it's rated for a 7.5 horse motor. I run an electric three horse and or a 35 lb. thrust (I have two motors). I have a 15 horse for the row boat that I'd like to sell for a smaller motor or just use the 3 horse on the back of that. Great video and thanks for sharing.
I did polish the boat. I used sand paper from 400 to 800 grit. Then I use a yellow airway pad followed by a white airway pad to finish off. Takes about 12 hours
If the boat is empty it will list to one side. If the boat is full, it hardly notices the motor there.the 3hp is about 34lbs. Ie run a 6hp on it and you need to balance the boat with fuel and tackle on the left.
@@drtstar1 just picked up a second Tohatsu 2.5 out board for my Canue. Each to their own I suppose.I suppose enough pressure on the mount nuts, and low power you should be fine.It great to see the likes of your videos, gives us ideas thanks

That is awesome!

I love everything about this vid. It had a beautiful Grumman canoe, an amazing little outboard, and Zebco gear. Staples for me for decades.
OutnBacker those are my favorite things too. Last summer we pulled in a 22” halibut with 8lb test zebco 33 micro lol
What a great outboard....
One of the best ever made!
@@drtstar1 You got that right buddy...OMC would still be thriving if they could still make this model....

Sounds like you are addicted to boats also.
@@drtstar1 I like the smaller boats. Canoes, kayaks, row boats, etc.
Take that motor to a motorcycle shop. They are good a popping dents out of gas tanks. I have a 67 and a 68. Both folders with cases. Cheers!
Never thought of that! Great idea
I have a 1983 18LWT, in great shape but the aluminum is dull. Did you polish your boat and if so, how?

What is the max speed you achieve with this setup? (If you don’t have a gps you can download a speedometer app on your phone.)
7-8 mph mostly 7, it depends on where I move to in the boat. I use the speedo app. It works pretty good.
Fun video! Is that a custom made motor mount? Or where would a guy find one? Thanks in advance.
Beason Xiong ya, I make a lot of weird stuff lol
How heavy is the motor? Does it affect the boat balance? Thanks.

Nice engine can't see if you have fitted lanyard to stop it slipping into the water.
That’s a great idea, but if I’m in that situation I’d rather it fall off then sink the boat. Lol

Good runner!
Did you polish the Grumman?
Patrick-Rochon Begley thanks. Yes, I spent 24 hrs sanding and buffing the old Grumman
Me too :))
Are you still running this little motor?
It’s one of my favorites. I have 4 different 3hp’s. This one isn’t the prettiest, but it never fails.
@@drtstar1 Yes They're Great little motors I have few although hadn't run them in years-
Where did you get that mount ?
Homemade ?
Thanks
Troy Ness I made that.
@@drtstar1 I wondered. Looks nice, sturdy, & better than anything I see on the market. Thanks. 👍
Thanks!
